the Dex- and Str-based casting words only change the bonus spells, not the save DCs, which i reread and thought SUCKS!

But what does it matter if you're Str AND Int? And if you're using it primarily as buffage (or for no-saves-but-still-sucks), then it doesn't matter anyway.

Here's me doing more than just being the OP:

I finally brought myself to suggest using the ELH for non-epic play. It seems the templates are the most useful part. +11 for paragon or +13 for psuedonatural (cross reference page 155 with MM1). A Worm that Walks is at LA+4 isn't that TO if added at ECL 15, giving the same 40% chance (assuming an int of 24) that the example creature had.

Its a shame that not even bloodlines will let you be a +8 LA demi-lich pre-epic. :(

It's also too bad that the -23LA for the hunefer still makes it epic and therefore a no-no to play in order to first level drain it for hilariousness.

Assuming that the LA for the younger forms is atleast not greater than the older forms, you could play a force dragon wyrmling for an ECL20 1-shot. Immunity to force effects!

Btw a ruin swarm isn't really epic and would be funny versus an ECL 16 party :)

Paragon and Pseudonatural don't have LAs, that I've seen.

Some article by a less than reputable writer failed to stat them once.
Tiers explained in 8 sentences. With examples!
Tiers break down into who has spellcasting more than anything else due to spells being better than anything else in the game.
6: Skill based. Commoner, Expert, Samurai.
5: Mundane warrior. Barbarian, Fighter, Monk.
4: Partial casters. Adapt, Hexblade, Paladin, Ranger, Spelltheif.
3: Focused casters. Bard, Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Martial Adapts, Warmage.
2: Full casters. Favored Soul, Psion, Sorcerer, Wu Jen.
1: Elitists. Artificer, Cleric, Druid, Wizard.
0: Gods. StP Erudite, Illthid Savant, Pun-Pun, Rocks fall & you die.

There's a table at the beginning of the section that lists LAs for the creatures to which the templates have been applied, IIRC, and from them you can derive the actual LA.
So you end up stuck in an endless loop, unable to act, forever.

In retrospect, much like Keanu Reeves.

The Protection from Good/Evil/Law/Chaos spells completely negate the downsides of the voidmind template (awesome abilities for +1 LA). Grab a continuous item of such for cheap and then destroy the illithids that spawned you.

Voidmind is +1 CR or +3LA unless it has been updated.

I similarly like the spell "trait removal" from the Serpent Kingdoms.  It costs alot more, but it lets you remove EX and SU abilities from the target.  Works quite well as a custom continous item for Warhulk's "no time to think."

Crystal Keep has it as +1 LA and +3 CR.

[edit] But now that I think about it, that DOES seem a bit off...

It's +1 if controlled, +3 if freed.
A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.

Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH!
Behind door number 2: A magic crown!
Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

Plugging the PF equivalent of this thread, since it's moving from "weird abilities" to "weird uses/combinations of abilities", and they're usable in a 3.5e game depending on your DM.

All the best bards in PF are Magic Idol Singers, and monks can turn their allies into exploding crows.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Another very useful summon for Zceryll users, or other dedicated Monster Summoners, the Artaaglith from Ghostwalk. A SM VI that casts as a 5th level cleric with the evil and death (undeath) domains. I really wish I had looked this one up earlier. For a binder that's unlimited non good cleric spells of up to 3rd level. Can also animate dead once per day as a Spell like ability.

Actually it is +3 LA always, per MMIII.  There is no alternate LA given if you are "Freed".  Crystal Keep just has a typo.

Not bad.  Shame you don't get to pick which spells he has though.

I don't think there's anything that says you can't summon one with a specific spell in memory. They're not spell like abilities so they can change, especially since this one is a cleric and not a sorcerer like the Coatll from SM IX. If you don't get one on the first try with a spell you like, try again. :)

I do realize that it's a GM call.
