i'm suddenly struck with the thought of a dervish figuring out a way to lock multiple scimitars together into a shield shape and using that both offensively and defensively... as a light weapon too.

What happens if someone uses silent image or prestidigitation to write "SHIELD" on the Druid's pants?
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Well, a Dervish with the Two Weapon Defense feat gets to treat scimitars at light weapons and gets a shield bonus when wielding two of them...

Not to be a party pooper, but i'm pretty sure carry in this situation means "hold in your hands for the granted armor class". At least that seems RAI.

RAW... I may be wrong, but I actually think D&D doesnt actually have the phrase "equipped", so carry would still mean exactly that, carry in your hands, not keep it around in your backpack.
I just checked PHB 142-143, Move Actions: Ready or Loose a Shield.

"Readying" a shield refers to arranging it in a way that it provides an AC bonus.  "Loosing" is the inverse.  But the last sentence is the fun one:

"Dropping a carried (but not worn) shield is a free action."

From that, it looks like "carry", in this context, refers specifically to holding a shield in one's hand without employing it to gain an AC bonus.  (To get the AC bonus, you have to wear the shield, which is presumably the state of affairs after readying it.)

Hilariously enough, a version of this plan might work by RAW.  So, you Druid players, be careful when you're looting your fallen enemies, and don't pick up any metal shields!

What you do is have someone attach an illusion to your metal shield to make it look wooden and nature-y (like it was made specifically for a druid), then throw on some temp-buffs to make it look REALLY powerful.

Offer the shield to the druid as a reward, or 'accidentally' drop it while fleeing.

Druid picks it up, and gets screwed.

A metal buckler designed for a halfling could count as a frisbee, right?

And you could convince him to play fetch with his animal companion.

Also, Dominate the druid in his sleep and near the end of the spell's duration have him pick up a shield for you at the store.

PAO doesn't.

Also, use Metamorphosis on your psicrystal after it climbs into the druid's backpack to turn it into a metal shield.

Sadly, Metamorphosis is Personal, so you'd have to touch your psicrystal while it's in the Druid's backpack.  You could use Greater Metamorphosis, but that seems like a waste of 200XP.

Or you could reach mid levels and use Channel Power. Or give your psicrystal a psychoactive skin or a power stone and UPD.

Or hell, a Diminutive-sized steel shield.

i wonder if some combination of a ring of force shield and those items that grant temp properties such as specific metal types would work? probably a bit far fetched.
