Capping out a Malconvoker
« on: January 26, 2011, 01:48:05 PM »
So, it's been a while since I've posted a thread like this anywhere, but here we are. In a TBA 15th-20th lvl game, I was monkeying around with a malconvoker. So far, I have something like Conjurer 3/Master Conjurer 2/Malconvoker 8 for the first 13 levels, but cannot decide what to cap those final 7 levels with.

Ideally, my goals are:
-Be awesome at summoning evil (accomplished via malconvoker)
-Be somewhat awesome at summoning elementals (accomplished via certain feats in LOES
-Caster Level of 35

If I can manage that last one without losing any more casting levels, with the last 7 levels, I'm golden, that is the part I am having the most trouble with.

Note: Not much time atm, will post more complete build later.

Maybe bardic spellthief 1/ultimate magus6 to help boost that caster level with master spellthief.

Unfortunately you would lose another caster level along the way.

Red Wizard is the easiest way to get CL 40 without trying too hard.

I like Conjurer5/Malconvoker5/Incantatrix4/Paragnostic Apostle1/Full CastingX.

Conjurer5 gives freedom of movement as a Domain Granted Power.  Incantatrix gives the lovely Metamagic Effect and 2 metamagic feats.  Paragnostic Apostle gives fast healing to your summonlings.

Master Conjurer feels underwheming for a summoner.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Well, the thing there is that i like the +2HD for planar binding from malconvoker 8, and if i recall correctly, the alt. feature that trades scribe scroll for augment summoning also eats your 5th lvl bonus feat as well, so that precludes the domain granted power. I agree about the master specialist being mostly filler though, and I'm not too crazy about the loss of an additional school for incantatrix when i'm focusing mainly on summons.

How about conjurer3/MS2/malconvoker8/master specialist2/archmage5

You can use a 8th level spell slot have summon monster V as a SLA 4 times a day and take the quicken SLA feat at level 18 to be able to cast those 3 times a day as a free action.

Not to sound harsh but I would just would like to bring the Malconvoker Handbook here into attention. Also, Malconvokers have nothing to do with elementals (the feat is nice to not waste a summon spell for traps or what not), it's just that you won't be getting two of them is all.

Or Halruaan Elder, from Shining South, i actually prefer it, much easieer to get into...

Make it Conjurer 3 / Master Specialist 4 / Malconvoker 8 / Halruaan Elder 5

Yes, I have read the Malconvoker Handbook. The elementals thing came about due to reading Endarire's LOES handbook for elemental summoning. I've followed most of the things in the malconvoker handbook, I just was having a hard time getting that CL 35 i mentioned before. It seems that some flavor of circle magic user is my best bet though.

There are evil elementals. Grues, for example.
