Optimizing for the 'War of theBurning Sky' campaign.
« on: January 18, 2011, 08:57:50 AM »
A guy at my club is about to run the War of the Burning Sky campaign for me and two other guys, and I am in the process of choosing what kind of character I wish to run.

The two other guys are not by any means optimizers, and they have decided to go with a pair of rogues, because they think that helping eachother flank is a winning strategy. I was thinking along the lines of a tricked out conjurer for myself, but that would leave us without healing.

Does any of you know how hard this campaign is? And wether some abilities are a must have?

Thanks.

When in doubt, Druid.

Generic as the answer is, you really can't go wrong.

Alternatively, you could go for summoning. I'm sure your Rogue friends would appreciate the flanking buddies. Lacking healing isn't that bad - make sure one or both of the Rogues maxes out Use Magic Device and get some wands, use summons to draw heat off of your buddies, and consult SFT's guide to healing.

Now, this is all general advice - I'm unfortunately not familiar with the campaign at all. Maybe fish for hints and themes from the DM? :p

Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

Adding another for a +4, and also suggesting, if it's available, Greenbound Summoning from Lost Empires of Faerun (page 8) for beefing up your spontaneous SNA a huge amount.

If you gave us a starting level, we might be able to help more with advice and build.

Funny thing about druid is that its "steath ops" unless people are "in the know" most of them don't think there's anything wrong with druid and monk in the same party.  :lol
So yeah... what level and what books allowed?

Did a quick check. War of the Burning Sky. If they're running the full thing, it starts at 1st level and goes to 20th.

So, to start:
Strongheart Halfling Druid 1
Wis->Con->Dex->Int->Cha->Str
Feats: Greenbound Summoning, Improved Initiative; if flaws allowed, add on Ashbound (page 50, Eberron Campaign Setting) and whatever you want; hell, set a feat on fire for a prereq.

Put some points into Ride early on so you can ride your dog AC and negate attacks with your Ride check, possibly wielding a Small Lance. Spontaneously rip out doubled duration, auto-buffed plant-animals to throw down Entangles that last longer than what you can cast (1/round HD duration). Own tremendous amounts of face.

Words of Wisdom

Spell Focus (Conjuration) isn't a bad one for nabbing Augment Summoning at 3rd.

Greenbound Summoning is better. The ability to create wolf-plants that can entangle enemies is win.

'It' being greenbound summoning of course.. Silly me. I will probably even take it at level 1, and take Augment Summoning at level 9 indstead.
