snakeman830's monk fix if homebrew is allowed.

I'm currently DM'ing a game with a L5 monk using this fix. It's pretty damn good. Watch the knee-jerking on some of the abilities though. The class is now (roughly) on par with ToB classes.

How is a build with 1 level of monk a monk build?
Because more than a couple of levels of monk (or up to 6 with lots and lots of alternative class features) isn't a monk. It's a tragedy.

The more monk in your build, the worse it is. I'd rather have NPC levels (expert/adept) than monk.

At least Adepts can use wands of Polymorph, and Experts get UMD as a class skill.

I think the Wildshape Monk is a decent Tier 4 class.

Apart from that, you are right. But calling it a monk build is misleading, I was hoping to be able to get a good laugh. After coming in here, and seeing something that could work just made me sad.

I think unarmed Psywar would be more appropriate.

Also, you need more ranks in UMD to be a monk build, and more partially charged wands. And more WBL than everyone else.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

The fact that even adding wild shape to the monk still only improves it to Tier 4 is telling, don't you think?

It's got more monkiness than the monk, if you choose the right powers. Wuxia, ho!

Seriously, have you watched any old Wuxia movies? That's the Talashtoran monk/psywar right thar. Or possibly swordsage ardent.

Also, you need more ranks in UMD to be a monk build, and more partially charged wands. And more WBL than everyone else.
Well, I LOL'd.

To be fair, you can make a decent monk build by going into Serene Guardian and chucking potions for resonance.  No-save confusion for a couple of rounds isn't the best trick, but it's arguably non mind-affecting, and actually does shit against level-appropriate enemies.

Some people can write whenever they want. For me it's like a valve that builds up pressure until it bursts, then becomes useless again.

Shameless plug.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Yeah it's pretty sad that the monk gets owned by NPC classes (expert and adept)

Anyways my monk build is bard1/paladin17/monk2, with ascetic knight, devoted performer, and initate of milil you'll end up with a character with 18th level bardic music abilities, 19th level monk unarmed damage, and 20th level smiting abilities.

Paladin and Monks really shouldn't be on the same build because of Wis/Cha MAD.

I'd really look at (for a 3.5 only build) something along the lines of Monk 1/Cleric 5/Sacred Fist 10/Shiba Protector 1 and/or full caster x. Pay 3k for get Greater Mighty Wallop on your list (researching spells part of the DMG) and you are more than battle ready.

Paladins can take the Serenity feat to key their abilities to Wisdom.

Only if Dragon is allowed. Hence, my comment on 3.5 only (Dragon doesn't count as they are third party...ish).
