Frozen cleric
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:18:29 PM »
Writing yet another blasting cleric as the last one worked out super well  :lol

Anyway this time I'm going for an Ice and snow theme and have most of the build worked out....

Cleric 5/Frost mage 4/Wintergaunt of Iborighu 6/Elemental Savant 1/4 xx

Domains: Cold, War
F1: Chosen of Iborrighu
F2: Snowcasting
 H: Frozen magic
 1:
 3: Southern Magician
 6: Craft Wonderous item
 9:
 B: Piercing Cold*
12:
15:
18:

*Bonus spell from Frost Mage

Above are the feats needed to get into my prestige classes and as you can see it dosent leave a lot of room to manuver, in any case i need ideas for what to fill the remaining slots with and at what level.

Below are some ideas for feats to use...
Divine Metamagic
Cold Spell Specilisation
Energy Substitution (Cold)
Lord of the Uttercold
Fell Animate

Basically all I need is suggestions on the last 4 levels (4 more Wintergaunt?) and what feats to take where.

I think that's a little typo, but that's the Winterhaunt of Iborighu out of Frostburn (on page 72). It can use cold things on cold immune creatures, deals extra damage with cold spells, and has a rage-esque ability among other things.

DMM quicken for more blasting?  Unless you're playing at later levels, in which case DMM persist still pulls ahead. :)

Cold Focus/Greater Cold Focus might be nice if you get everything else you want, +1 DC to all your spells through Snowcasting.

Draconic Aura (Dragon Magic) can add a scaling bonus to the DCs of your spells (up to +4 at level 20, IIRC).

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

This is true only if you have the Dragonblood subtype. Without it, you only get the +1. :( Still, 2 feats (Draconic Heritage, Draconic Aura) for +4 DC vs. 2 feats for +2 DC (Cold focus line) is definitely better at the end. Arguably worse in the middle. If you can retrain or PsyRef, start with the Cold Focii and then retrain or PsyRef into Draconic Heritage and Draconic Aura.

You should also wear Icemail Armor when you get the funds (the printed one is 52k). It's a +3 breastplate, treated as light armor, max dex +5, armor check 1, but has 0% ASF (though you're a cleric so you don't care) with [Cold] spells, and adds +2 DC to [Cold] spells.

I'm in a flavor mood (ok everyone else covered cold boosting)

So umm... How about asking your DM about a modified Sand Shaper. Replace Sand with Snow, Desert with more Snow and Ice?
Oh and an arcane to divine conversion.
With four levels in it you can magically shape and animate snow all day long.

6: Skill based. Commoner, Expert, Samurai.
5: Mundane warrior. Barbarian, Fighter, Monk.
4: Partial casters. Adapt, Hexblade, Paladin, Ranger, Spelltheif.
3: Focused casters. Bard, Beguiler, Dread Necromancer, Martial Adapts, Warmage.
2: Full casters. Favored Soul, Psion, Sorcerer, Wu Jen.

You could get the dragonblooded subtype by being a silverbrow human, that will not affect your build much at all and provides the really nice boost to DCs.

You should also wear Icemail Armor when you get the funds (the printed one is 52k).

Thematic armors available at lower levels include blue ice (Frostburn 80), alchemical copper (Magic of Faerun 178), dragoncraft (Draconomicon 117) made from a silver dragon, alchemical platinum (Magic of Faerun 180), and sanctified (Dungeonscape 34).

If you can make the snowmen undead, take Destruction Retribution.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Too bad it has to be a necromancy spell, Winterhaunt can summon Entombed as a SLA...

its more to do with Destruction Retribution stating:

"Each undead you raise or create with any necromancy spell"

The winterhaunt SLA is summons rather than raises or creates and is conjuration.
