Sort of late, since the event ended today, but I figured this would be the place for me to tell about the weekend. Just in case anyone is even mildly interested.
So this was the largest roleplaying convention in Finland and it's annual. If I recall correctly there are some 5000 visitors every year. Three days, a few thousand like-minded people, some free sauna and swimming in the sea and lots of people I only see once a year.
We had made some preparations for RopeCon this year with a friend. And no, no special costumes. Instead we cooked ourselves no less than 201 pieces of sushi and pretty much forced people to have taste of our fine cousine. Incidentally, it took as something like six hours to make them, because the rice had to cool down for so long.
Two kilograms of rice, some small octopi (24 fours, if I recall correctly), king prawns, salmon, pike perch, fish eggs and whatnot. Unfortunately I was stupid enough to forget to take a picture of the finished 201 pieces before we packed them.
Although I have next to no knowledge about Warhammer, I toured around the place looking at the figures and watching tournaments whenever I was not busy catching up with people or drinking beer/vodka/sherry. As it can be seen, everything went down calmly and without complications.
At some point during the Saturday night I found this in my arm and then I just had to take a picture:
Anyway, sleeping over there can be tricky, because I naturally did not bother myself with earthly concerns such as taking a sleeping bag or anything with me. I knew it would all work out fine in the end and I was right, I simply did not sleep and kept my friends awake by whining about the excessive presence of Pathfinder games. It was all cool.
I didn't take actively part to the program there, but I made sure I'd follow the finals of the boffer tournament (not sure if that is the right word, but it's a bunch of duels with fake swords). Naturally I missed the very final matches due to some inconsistencies and misconceptions I had with the people I was traveling with. Well, I did see most of the finals.
All in all, I loved the event and everything went to excellently. Too bad many of you couldn't make it, but perhaps some day you will. I'm not sure what else to tell, so please ask questions in case you want to know something about the trip. Cheers.
