Bloodlines - Do I have this right? (Also a custom bloodline)
« on: April 13, 2011, 11:06:12 PM »
Hey all. My GM has Oked bloodlines so I'm looking at adding one to my Lolth-Touched Desert Kobold Swordsage/Warblade/Incarnate/Totemist/Incarnum Blade (the fixed version on these boards). I just wanted to check that I've got this right:

Custom Incarnum Dragon Bloodline (major)
Note: The game is only going to lvl 10, so that's all I've worked out

1: +2 Knowledge: Arcana
2: Alertness
3: +1 Strength
4: Bonus point of Essentia
5: Incarnum Dragon Affinity +2
6: +1 Natural Armor
7: +2 Knowledge: The Planes
8: Bonus point of Essentia
9: +1 Constitution
10: Still trying to work this one out

So it's basically the standard Dragon Bloodline template with Knowledge for the skills, and a bonus point of Essentia instead of Energy Resistances (which Incarnum Dragons don't get). I have no idea what to do for the lvl 10 ability, since most Dragon bloodlines give a 1/day SLA at that level, but Incarnum Dragon's don't get those either. Any ideas?

Level Progression
Lvl 1: Swordsage 1/ - (due to +1 template)
Lvl 2: Swordsage 2/Incarnate 1
Lvl "3": Pay 2000xp to buy off Template, go back to Lvl 2
Lvl 2a: Swordsage 2/Incarnate 2
Lvl "3b": Pay 2000xp to buy a level of Bloodline
Lvl 2 (Bloodline 1): Swordsage 2/Incarnate 2 - however my Initiator & Meldshaper Levels are now 3. XP to advance is standard for lvl 2
Lvl 3 (B1): Swordsage 3/Incarnate 3
Lvl 4 (B1): Swordsage 4/Incarnate 4 - My initiator level is now 5, so I qualify for lvl 3 maneuvers.
Lvl 5 (Ba): Warblade 1/Totemist 1 - While my Manifestor level is now 6, my character level is still 5, so I don't get the increased Essentia Capacity yet
Lvl "6": Pay 5000xp to buy my second level of Bloodline
Lvl 5 (Bloodline 2): Warblade 1/Totemist 1 - Incarnate Meldshaper level is 6, Totemist is 2, Warblade Initiate level 4, Swordsage Initiate level 6. XP to advance is standard for lvl 5
Lvl 6 (B2): Warblade 2/Totemist 2 - Warblade Initiator Level 6, Totemist Meldshaper level 3, Essentia Capacity increase due to Character level
Lvl 7 (B2): Swordsage 5/Incarnate Blade 1 - Warblade Initiator Level 7, Swordsage 8, Totemist 3, Incarnate 6
Lvl 8 (B2): Swordsage 6/Incarnate Blade 2 - Warblade Lvl 8, Swordsage 9, Totemist 3, Incarnate 7 (via Incarnum Blade)
Lvl 9 (B2): Swordsage 7/Incarnate Blade 3 - Warblade Lvl 8, Swordsage 10, Totemist 3, Incarnate 8
Lvl 10 (B2): Swordsage 8/Incarnate Blade 4 - Warblade lvl 9, Swordsage 11, Totemist 3, Incarnate 9
Have I got that right?

There's no reason not to buy off both levels of bloodline at level 1. It ends up being much, much cheaper...

I thought the generally accepted reading was that you had to buy off the bloodline at the level listed, not before, since otherwise it's so absurdly cheap it's obviously broken?

As bloodlines are written, it doesn't say when you can or can't gain bloodline levels, just how many you need to get the full abilities and when you need to get them to avoid XP penalties.

It doesn't seem too broken to gain them all early because it delays the acquisition of new spell levels, class features, and perhaps most importantly at low levels, hit dice.
