We started! Weeeeeeee! :cheers :cheers :cheers

...But where's EjoThims's character sheet? He is still doing the BC sorcerer right?

???
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims June 06, 2008, 06:36:07 PM
Yes, still the face/controller sorceror. I swapped out Infernal for Sylvan on my languages though, since it makes more sense with my back story and allows for a little more party communication.

Your town naming is fine, Shigunaru. In general, Unless it's a capital city, I'm fine with anyone naming their home town.

: Shigunaru June 07, 2008, 11:50:38 AM
Suddenly, draconic. Lots of it :lol

I'm starting to love Malachi already... Guess who'll be the party face? :D

Guess who can't tell a gnome from a halfling ;)

Guess who can't tell a gnome from a halfling ;)

Quiet you... ¬.¬''

Though yes, Malachi is very facey, and I'm sure there will be similar reactions whenever anyone first speaks a non-common language that others in the party know.

Should I be preemptively doing Bluff and Diplomacy checks on NPCs, or do you want to make those rolls as part of the NPC reactions when you deem appropriate?

Also, I wasn't sure on the knowledge checks, but unless Dragonborn are especially rare or mysterious, myself and Shin probably know what Dusk is, with one or two extra bits tossed in.
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent June 07, 2008, 02:27:55 PM
:P

Go ahead and roll bluffs whenever you character is bluffing, and I'll make liberal use of the bluff/sense motive modifiers.  If you're trying to shift attitude for some reason, feel free to roll diplomacy, too.

You're both fine on the knowledges, and I'll give you the necessary info, when I update :D
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims June 07, 2008, 04:55:14 PM
Alright. I'll do 'em up whenever I do things intentionally, and just let me know when you want them for any other situations.  :)
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent June 07, 2008, 05:02:50 PM
That sounds good.

As a general rule you all can roll bluff or diplomacy whenever you feel appropriate. When I believe you're bluffing or need a diplomacy roll, I'll mention here, most likely.

Maybe I just fail, but I was having some trouble with invisible castle. I had a few errors and trouble finding rolls again, and it won't save my info. For the bluff check I made, I had to do it a few times (and some tests) before I could figure out if I was doing it right and get it all together, though it's still not appearing on the same page as the knowledge checks. I can't find the only original that didn't error, though, and I have no idea what the result was, since after the first error I was trying to fix that and get the results under the same link, and not looking at the results.

If someone else can figure out what I did  wrong and point me to the first one, I'll edit in that result. I think I've got it all figured out now, since I made a log-in and am using the campaign name now, looks like they're all going to the same place... I just hope they still are in a day... -.-
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent June 09, 2008, 11:37:58 AM
Ejo: I can see all the rolls you made here (http://invisiblecastle.com/search/?search=Malachi+the+Sorceror).

When you first go to IC, in the search bar at the top right, type in the name you use to roll. It will bring up all the rolls you made using that name.

It doesn't matter what your profile name is (or even if you have one) or what the campaign you put is, as long as everyone uses a consistent rolling name, we're good.

As for the errors, you have to remember to put in the box how many times you want to roll (second box on the roll dice page ), usually it is just 1. And then in the actual rolling box, you have to put number of dice "d" number of sides. Typing d20 will get you an error. You need to type 1d20.

Seeing as how you had some problems, I'm not going to count that natural 1 on your bluff check against you this time ;).  I hope that clears it up, any other questions?

Edit: Prime, I went ahead and moved your joke, which I totally didn't even see until you pointed out :P into this thread. Feel free to make random OOC jokes and such here :D

Ah. I missed the search. I was going by the 'link to character' thing on the rolls, which was not showing all the roles I had made under the same name, even before I actually made a profile and started putting the campaign name in. And I eventually figured out that 1d20 and d20 were not the same. lol

A nat 1? Very ouch, glad my incompetence is letting it not count.  :o

This is actually the first time I have played D&D. :bigeye

I know the rules so well because I'm a system-head (See 'sode #15 (http://brilliantgameologists.com/blog/32)), and played Neverwinter Nights. I am DMing an Age of Worms game at my own forums, but the party is still at level 1.

lol. I never would have guessed.  Don't worry, though, everyone has a slightly different playing style. :D So enjoy your first game ;)

Also, feel free to make any OOC chat here, even if it doesn't really relate to the game.

And for those of you in the wait, i'll update tomorrow. I want to give Dave a bit of time to reply to Stonewall.

If you're okay with sticking with it for a bit longer, I have no problem with you retraining his feats at level up. Or would you like to retrain it right now?

My character's stats have not played any part in the game so far, so I was hoping for a retcon.

Look player's guide to faerun for a regional feat that does exactly that. Every time you attack, cast a spell or charge you get a 20ft fear aura. I don't remember the name though :S

Is it still the same build plan?

Yeah. I don't think I can qualify for Dervish, though.

Rather than Kiai Shout, I could take Goad, Combat Panache (requires 8 ranks in Bluff, Intimidate and Perform) or Disturbing Visage (requires Quick Change, both can be taken as Cabinet Trickster bonus feats)

Hmmm... Dreadful Wrath? Lower radius, and can only target a creature once/24 hours, but no HD limit, does not require an action, and can be used any number of times per day. That does look better.

EDIT: Incidentally, I'll be taking two fighter level as part of the build, and I plan to use the Hit and Run variant from Drow of the Underdark.

Also, I haven't been very active in the game, but I figure a changeling wouldn't want to draw too much attention to himself. Right now, he suspects that one of Silkur's rivals might have cast some kind of enchantment on the town, but he will not risk bringing this up with the captain around.

Whether his methods were magical or mundane, though, the main thing is that Tiv sees a powerful mastermind in the shadows. As someone disguising his true nature, he is paranoid wary of deception, but he may become more open if he sees Dusk walking around without hassle.

Sorry it took me a couple days to update, everyone. I've been a bit under the weather and haven't been thinking straight. :P Anyways, I'm to however much rping each of you want to do, so if you want to rp the walk to the guild and any questions you have, that'd cool or if you just want a "Bob spends the time before dinner asking around the market about Silkur" that's fine too. Go ahead and roll gather informations while you do either :D  And if I missed something, don't be afraid to point it out :D

You are all welcome to make the sense motive check, and I trust EjoThims will go ahead and PM everyone who makes it (and me, :P) to let you know why.

Edit: As a quick aside, now that I've read the recent posts... Minor correction though, Lady Isabella was elected to the council 3 months ago and the abbey fell a little over 4 months ago, so she was elected after Silkur was exiled.

I must have read them backwards... Unless you posted them backwards.

That, of course, just makes it more suspicious...

But if your one post is unedited I'll leave it that way, let someone else correct Malachi. :D
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent June 22, 2008, 06:49:38 PM
Ohh, while I'm on the topic, Ejo, I just want to be clear, did you want your big party speech to happen after the Captain walked away or in front of him?

And yeah, I think I mentioned the exile before I mentioned the electing of the Lady, but the times were mentioned correctly. :P ;)
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims June 22, 2008, 06:53:20 PM
I just got it backwards then. Which should be forgivable, since I made that post drunk off my ass.

It's easier to be Malachi when I'm drunk.  :D

And yea, speech was for after he left.

Hehe. I'm not the only one who links videos that can deal intelligence damage. I seem to have a resistance to these things from the simple trait of being easily amused...though oddly enough the second half of the vid wasn't very amusing.

You obviously understand many unique starcraft themes consist of natural sweetness, though really-unfortunately-certain things are duplication, done intentionally to irritate online nerds, alientating loyal players. Your link's obviously nothing special.

Sorry to see you go Dave :(  Best of luck with real life :D

What would the rest of you like to do?  I can NPC Dave through the next seen and just drop him before you enter the forest. I can try to find someone to take over or replace the character, or we can just continue without him.

: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims July 16, 2008, 10:38:33 AM
No really.

If he (or anyone else) has to drop out, NPC his character through any encounters being wrapped up while looking for someone to take the character or fill in with a new, then write the character out before the next big event if no one's picked him up, even if there's not another replacement yet (unless you want to keep NPCing it, of course).

That way when another is found to step in, it's easier, or if he can come back, he can be written back in but the character hasn't been dragged back and forth away from where he would have taken it.

Yes. That souds good, and if everyone else is up for that, I'll do that. I just rolled my eyes because I read the NPC him as opposite the continue without him option. Mutually exclusive and all that :P

: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: skydragonknight July 16, 2008, 07:34:30 PM
The character has a family crisis and has to return to his village immediately. If asked about it, he can't say since it's too personal and can't let anyone else get involved.

If someone wants his character later or if he comes back, the crisis has been resolved. If not, then he can always show up as an NPC later as part of some plot twist.

Absolutely. Right after you fight your own tentacle monster in a duel to the death.  Also, you are bound and gagged. :P

Hrm, good point, because that would require rewriting actions any time someone with a lower initiative used it, unless we changed the rules someone or just waited for each person to roll their own.

Maybe make such spells take affect on the next round?

Not a bad idea. For certain static effects (like that ring in Drow of the Underdark) that are always in place, I can do that, but for spells/effects that work 1/day or something, it can change initiative for the next round. How does that sound?

Not really. Rope and shovels?

Good old kobolds ;)
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk

It's easy to build a trap.

It's building an effective one that's the trouble...  :pout

That said, Malachi has some familiarity with woodsmanship, though he isn't exactly trained... And an untrained Craft check is just an int check.
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk

Others: "So which way did you aim it?"

M: "Aim it?"

Although, I must say I was a bit puzzled.
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims August 25, 2008, 06:13:47 PM
A piece of the fallen tower, a minor chip of stone around the damage will suffice... The same from Silkur's residence...

For examination.

Two fresh rosebuds, a lamb's fleece, 15 brown... and they must be brown now... freshly laid hen's eggs, a copper dagger...

A distraction and a hint of mysticism, though we can eat the eggs for lunch perhaps.

A list of all the family members of the council members for the last 6 years and a list of Silkur's relatives...

Because I have my suspicions.

A length of rope as long as the distance from your nose to the tip your index finger with your arm straight out in front of you...

Three feet of rope might come in handy, but otherwise just a distraction again.

A kitten's purr... no, they're better fresh...

Kittens are fluffy and it sounds strange.

And the sole of the boot from a one eyed man.

Distracting/mystifying again.

Hey, sorry I've been a bit lax. I'm, for the time being, computerless. I manage to borrow a family member's computer, but am without notes and time to properly DM, probably for the next few days. I hope to be back up to speed by, say, the middle of this coming week. Thanks for being patient. :D

In case anyone's waiting on me, I've already posted my actions for until the nausea wears off (circle the cloud clockwise).

Sorry for the hiatus, guys. Nothing I tried fixed the computer, but I got a friend to look at it. He says he's got it working. :love Now I just have to get down to pick it up from him (lives about 45 minutes away). Hopefully I'll kick this back up after this holiday weekend. :)

Bah, computer still doesn't work. But I can borrow one every now and then, so let's keep this moving. :D

I should be able to post 1/day or so. Sorry for the delay people, but we're back in action now.

Can i charge the visible enemy? I'm not good with charging when it's not in a straight line.
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent December 11, 2008, 05:45:06 PM
No. Tiv is the only one who can see him right now. The yellow squares are part of Hudwch's obscuring mist mixed with stinking cloud, so vision beyond 5' is blocked.
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk

I'm back everyone. I have a new computer and the holidays are over. Give me a day or two to catch up on everything and I'll kick this back in gear. Sorry for the delay.

What happened to your computer, Ejo?

Also, Prime's right, it doesn't matter what order you post in (although the dretch acts last in initiative ;))
: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: EjoThims January 10, 2009, 04:31:11 AM
The logic board is fried.

And with the warranty expired about a year ago and the type of computer, getting a new one and having it replaced (cause fuck trying to do it myself in that tight space; I love Macs, but iMacs are a bitch to do anything hardware wise for other than CD drives, Hard drives, and RAM) will cost about as much as starting a payment plan on a new one (cause I'd honestly rather pay some nice money now for something I won't have to touch in the slightest for at least 4 years, then go upgrading from there), which I was looking to do within the next few months anyway.

On the bright side though, the HD and RAM are both 100% saveable, so the brand new computer I get will get some free (but marginal) upgrades and I won't lose any data.

The downside is that I was very lazy with websites and bookmarks and such, I don't even know what half my passwords are, at least 80% of my DnD materials are on that computer in one way or another (including ability references, character sheet links, plans, posts, write ups, ugh). So if I can't get something set down in the next week or so, I'm gonna have to hook that HD up to this computer, hope I can at least get to the files still (Windoze doesn't play very nice), and go from there.

The fact that I haven't had much time for in depth stuff recently doesn't make any of this any easier... Not to mention I'm losing so much raiding and farming time in WoW. @.@

Shaken gives a -2 to Attack, hence a +2 to AC. 18 to hit.
Yeah, I got that. His post had me thinking I needed to roll an 18 to hit (making his AC 20 after shaken penalties with the dretch bonus). And I'm confused about that.

: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk
: AfterCrescent February 17, 2009, 07:24:32 PM
Prime, you are so lucky I keep rolling 6s for his AoO against your grapple attempt. :P

But no, since he's not holding a weapon, you can't beat him with his own claw. If you pin him and cut off his hand, then yes, you can stab him with it.

Natural weapons are light weapons, right? Your opponent never "leaves go" of his weapon when you take that action, so it doesn't have to be something that can be disarmed...

Yeah, I'll accept if you say no, I just won't be happy about it. :bigeye
Decided it be best to continue the discussion here.  I'm not sold either way, but it's the wording of "holding" the weapon that inclines me slightly more towards no, since I can punch you with my fist (a natural weapon) but I'm not actually "holding" my fist... I'm open to thoughts and discussion, though.

: Re: Heroic Origins: OOC Talk

You'd have to win a grapple and make an attack at -4 to use the monster's own weapon... So if you really want to, I'll let you do that Prime, although it seems easier just to punch it yourself.

Apparently, it's my turn for computer troubles. My home desktop (ie, the one with all of my DnD material on it), just went splat. Hard drive controller failure, refuses to see or load any of the three HDs in the computer. Means I don't even have access to the beguiler spell list until I can get another PHB2.

I can try just stabbing the creature, but I'm not exactly combat capable without the spells.

Okay, so until someone can prove otherwise, because my research shows no evidence, creatures do not overcome their own DR with their natural weapons automatically...

So, on to more pressing business -> What the hell are you all going to do? You can wrestle it for all eternity, but that's not going to continue the storyline...

So far it has been the majority of the problem, rofl.

Besides, if we can take 20 on attacks, we can take 20 on confirmations, right? Just takes 400 times as long before we get that crit in... Still would end this battle faster...  :lol

He can take 20 on his grapple and get free 20xs faster. :P Besides taking 20 means you are patient. You are not patient when a ravenous monster is trying to eat your intestines (or whatever it is he is doing...)

Besides, taking 20 means one of the times is a "1" :p

But that's an opposed roll, you can't ake 20 on those. ;)

He's not trying to rip out my intestines right now, just the grapplers'. :D

Besides, taking 20 means one of the times is a "1" :p

Which carries no real penalties, since we aren't using critical fumble houserules.

Even as a joke (which this is), I didn't make this suggestion without it being vaguely plausible. It's far funnier that way.

You can take 20.
Also, I'm instigating a critical fumble rule now. ;)

How did you do that? @.@

wait... what?!

Yep, your dog only does 1d6+1 damage instead of 1d6+3 with it's bite. You debuffed your best combat option. ;)

... That spells dismissable, right? Dismiss it on your dog, please. :flutter

So here's the situation. Strat's gone AWOL, and I think Prime's dropped, since he hasn't been around for a while (I could be wrong).  That leaves you two, Ejo & DM.

So I pose the following - Would you like to try recruiting more people and have another go at this, or would you like to merge into the other CO game (Tides) and go gestalt?

Malachi would be a FUN gestalt...  ;)

But I'm fine with keeping this side going if we can get more as well.

Whatever you two would like to do is fine by me. :P

*pokes DM* What would you like to do?

Hey all!
I'm perfectly fine with that, but it will be difficult for me to participate until late (~20) July.
