Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.

This is the OOC thread.
: Re: The Cantina

Can I have already started with and paid for an upgrade from the Tech Specialist feat?
: Re: The Cantina
: altpersona February 25, 2009, 08:59:01 PM
are we doing a get to know you dance or just taking off?

i can make mechanics/use computer checks at 24+ roll once per day where taking 10 n 20 isnt allowed, thats without aid another.

taking 20 i can push 40.

Can I have already started with and paid for an upgrade from the Tech Specialist feat?

Naturally.

are we doing a get to know you dance or just taking off?

Do the heroes in a Star Wars movie ever start out together? :P We'll work out something. I'm hesitant to use the "everyone's in a bar" shtick.
: Re: The Cantina
: emissary666 February 25, 2009, 11:07:03 PM
Why not start in the Cantina?
: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 26, 2009, 12:07:05 AM
Can I have already started with and paid for an upgrade from the Tech Specialist feat?

Naturally.

What about Superior Tech?

Why not start in the Cantina?

Because that's not a bar at all.  :P
: Re: The Cantina
: emissary666 February 26, 2009, 12:15:20 AM
I meant that it is the place where the original starwars crew met, it would be appropriate, sorta
: Re: The Cantina
: j0lt February 26, 2009, 12:37:22 AM
First thing we gotta figure out is starting location.  Are we planetside?  All on a transport together?  Are we arriving at a station on different ships?
: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 26, 2009, 12:43:07 AM
I'd be found anywhere, though where we are will define how I act.  Got to keep up 3PO appearances in public.  :D
: Re: The Cantina
: Bozwevial February 26, 2009, 01:00:18 AM
Nanshork: Long as you pay for it, I'm okay with it.
: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 26, 2009, 01:22:02 AM
*goes and pays for it*  :D

Edit: I'd like a group opinion on this.  Should I add four to my dex, bringing it to it's max where dex to AC is concerned and adding to my dex based skills and ranged prowess, or up my int giving me more trained skills and int skill bonuses, and maybe take the Independent Droid talent that lets me trade trained skills for skill focus feats?
: Re: The Cantina
: j0lt February 26, 2009, 01:51:34 AM
I'd say the second one.  It sounds more droid-like.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 26, 2009, 09:16:03 AM
I'm fine with anything, really, my character is basically a drifter...

So, uhmz, any thoughts about my question in the second to last page of the recruiting thread?

Okay, the idea is to go with dual light sabers, with a blaster pistol as backup weapon, possibly switching to dual pistols or saber and pistol when necessary. There are 3 possible characters for that right now, any thoughts?

1) http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110483 (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110483)
Completely melee focused, but proficient with pistols and rifles and Dex-based, so should be able to at least contribute somewhat should it be necessary.

2) http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110490 (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110490)
Would give up Quick Draw and one other feat for Point Blank Shot and Precise shot, and would get Keen Shot talent from the Scout's Awareness talent tree.
Would either of those be worth forgoing some of my focus on melee for some more versatility? Would they provide a meaningful benefit?

3) http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110687 (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110687)
Yes, a Jedi with armor :P Starting at level 8 the Improved Armored Defense talent should give him a pretty decent improvement on Reflex defense when compared to the other 2 character options. Also has a slightly higher Fortitude defense and Damage Threshold.
Gets Point Blank Shot and Precise Shot like the previous character example, doesn't have the Keen Shot talent though.

So, which of these would you go with and why?

Once I decide on that I'm good to go :D

This one looks pretty good.  I like the dual sabers angle.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 26, 2009, 11:33:46 AM
No need for some extra Fort & Ref defense or Pistol talents/feats?
: Re: The Cantina
: j0lt February 26, 2009, 11:54:45 AM
Nah, just make sure you've got a cohesive character concept, and that he'll be able to do something both on his own, and on a starship (either in a transport, or his own starfighter).
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 26, 2009, 03:03:07 PM
Still working on the details, but I intend to develop the concept a little bit more in actual play, I tend to find that easier...

I'll decide tomorrow.

At least I'll have the Dex to be a back-up pilot if necessary and a decent gunner for the transport :)
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 26, 2009, 03:04:20 PM
By the way, anyone have any idea for/where to find some decent Star Wars-like names for humans?
I suck at names...
: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 26, 2009, 03:18:50 PM
I'd say the second one.  It sounds more droid-like.

Since you're the only one to chime in, I guess that's what I'll go for.  :p

Try looking at the example names in the core rule book. That's what I do.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 02:44:27 PM
Just need a last name...

Unless someone is willing to lend me 1955 credits (Stormtrooper armor is just that damn expensive...) it looks like I'll be going with this guy:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110483 (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110483)
: Re: The Cantina
: emissary666 February 27, 2009, 02:51:47 PM
Torin has 5000 creidts. He is sure to lend you some.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 02:58:34 PM
You mean that?
Would that be okay with the rest of you guys?

EDIT: I think, if everyone is okay with this, I'll go with this guy then:
http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110687 (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheets/view.php?id=110687)

EDIT 2: This way I also don't have the room for more Force Training feats, so I won't be able to step on Torin's toes regarding the 'Wizard' role :D
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 03:07:12 PM
By the way, Nanshork, if I understand the multiclassing rules correctly, different Class bonuses to Defenses don't stack, they overlap.
: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 27, 2009, 03:10:15 PM
It's probably messed up from when I was fiddling with what classes I'm taking.  I'll fix it later.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 03:40:07 PM
No prob, figured I'd mention it just in case :)

: Re: The Cantina
: Nanshork February 27, 2009, 03:43:30 PM
I think that part of it is because I thought PrCs stacked instead of overlapped.  However, I don't even have any PrC levels anymore, haha.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 03:52:03 PM
I originally made the same mistake for my multiclass characters :)

: Re: The Cantina
: Bozwevial February 27, 2009, 05:40:39 PM
When Bowen gets his sheet up, we can start playing, I think.
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 05:47:03 PM
Okay, if it's okay with everyone, I'll go with the 'Jedi Trooper' then :)
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 05:50:58 PM
Okay, sheet is up.
Let's rock & roll :)

By the way, what to do with HP?
Roll? Average +0.5? Even/uneven depending on level?

: Re: The Cantina
: Bozwevial February 27, 2009, 06:08:21 PM
Max per level, sorry if that was unclear.

Okay, here we go!
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw February 27, 2009, 06:24:05 PM
Excellent :)

I'm ready to roll :D

minor fact check needed before i post...
: Re: The Cantina
: j0lt February 28, 2009, 01:22:54 AM
BTW, I've gone back to Blaster Pistol again...  Damn indecisiveness!  :p
And Teela can make do as the primary pilot if it comes down to it.
: Re: The Cantina

Is okay, I can lay down some autofire if the need arises :)

: Re: The Cantina

Actually, I think the "No droids" policy was implemented under the Empire, but we'll let that slide.
: Re: The Cantina

Let me know if there is a no droid policy or not.   :P
: Re: The Cantina

Let me know if there is a no droid policy or not.   :P

Given the distrust between the Confederacy and the Hutts (yes, it does exist--no animated movie in this timeline), it's reasonable enough to assume there is one in place. Plus, I'm not a fan of retconning. :P
: Re: The Cantina

Alrighty then.  :P
: Re: The Cantina

well, its pretty easy to equate droids with walking sabacc cheaters..

i thought we were aquainted already, i must have been mistaken...
: Re: The Cantina
: altpersona March 02, 2009, 01:45:36 PM
it is my belief that the walls , floors, and other inanimate objects in the cantina have more ears than the living inhabitants.

the point of 'talking more privately' has to be leaving the cantina to have any real meaning..
: Re: The Cantina
: BowenSilverclaw March 04, 2009, 12:00:17 PM

: Re: The Cantina

It's just our high school marching band. It still counts as a school trip even though we're marching a grand total of once for a half-mile segment, then we spend the rest of the trip screwing around.

Well, they're all blue and have (a) blaster(s) :P

Personally I think I like the last one best, although the second one is pretty awesome as well :)

Background RC-1224 (aka Alt) is a clone Republic Commando (RC) who took a blow to the head during a training exercise.  Upon recovering He was brought to his senses no longer with the “brain control/limitations” of the other clones. Already having a higher degree of independent thought, this became the moment to breach out of his last barriors of enslavement. He kept his passions and thoughts hidden waiting for the right opportunity. Several months ago day prior to the Republic's "discovery of these clone warriors" Alt uses his training to sneak aboard a BlasTech freighter to escape his slavery.  Fleeing to Tatooine a planet near Kamino Alt decided to make this rugged barren wasteland his new home. He laid low for the first month living off the land/animals and has managed to keep a modest profile.  He has decided to nolonger live in his state of poverty and decided to utilize his skills (despite his incomplete commando training) to be a mercenary. He has no allegiances to the Republic or the CIS.   His gear he decided to keep, along with a few other items he managed to swipe from the BlasTech freighter.  He has decided to pursue his mandalorian heritage of being a mighty warrior, he is out now looking for work.  He despises the fact that others may think of him as less because he is a clone, but he will show them.  He keeps his clone history as his dark secret never to be shared.
Details
*At 4th level took Dex, Cha for Ability Increases.
H Human species trained skill
°TotG p57

Phyical Appearance For the last few months Alt has let his dark hair grow out, nolonger the standard military crew-cut.  He developed alittle scruff over the last week as well.  His all-temperature tan cloak looks more like a gunman's duster, as it blankets his armored figure.  Underneath is found the clone trooper armor that is well worn, but outstandingly maintained and fine tuned. The armor itself comprised twenty form-fitting plates made of plastoid-alloy composite, all sealed to a black body glove. He modified his gear a little to aid him in knowing he is not the same as the thousands of other clones he had been around. Instead of a silvery grey, his clone armor has a golden brown paint finish now to aid in blending in more to tatooines dry desert climate. His helmet is slightly different then the usual clone commando unit.  His T-visor LEDs emit an ominous reddish hue rather then the standard blue.  His bandolier is strapped on over his left shoulder to his right hip.  Underneath the cloak and concealed to his right thigh is the thigh holster carrying his DC-15s side arm blaster.  In his hands is his mighty "Deece" (Dc-17m interchangable blaster rifle).

[spoiler]

Helmet - The helmet of the Katarn-class armor had an HUD or heads up display that consistently displayed tactical data such as the locations and distances of your target, it also displayed the health of the wearer and the strength of the suits shields, it had the ability to system link between other suit bearers through the use of an internal communications antennae allowing each member of a squad to keep track of each others health and location, it had specialized internal sensors in the suit that could detect the make, model, and accuracy of every weapon that a commando used thus changing the shape and size of the target reticule for each weapon. All of these features were viewed through the visor. It had a filtration mask which could extract oxygen from toxic environments. The visor features an electrobinocular visor.
Body - The body of the armor had several features such as a reinforced Duraplast plating for defense against blaster fire and other anti-infantry weapons, it was also resistant to extreme heat and cold. It was fully sealed allowing a commando to survive in a vacuum for 20 minutes with a full tank of air. The knuckle plate of the armor featured a retractable vibroblade used for close quarter combat and quiet encounters.
Backpack - The Backpack featured specialized ammo cartridges that hold various different types of ammo. The backpack itself was reconfigurable for many different types of missions such as an extra oxygen tank for aquatic and space-borne environments, a large bacta dispenser for healing, or even an external communications array for long distance communications (i.e. subspace transmissions). It is interesting to note that the backpack had a display on it that showed the last two digits of the respective commando's ID number

oh i was wonder roughly how far after episode 2 and before episode 3 this campaign is taking place.  The clone wars is 3 years long.  Are we in the first year, the second, or the third.  It sounds like we are in the first but has it been days, weeks, months since episode 2? The opening text isn't very specific.
The Senate has recently voted to grant Supreme Chancellor Palpatine emergency powers, and provided for the creation of a Grand Army of the Republic.
I'm just curious, that way i know what type of details and allusions i can include in as i pbp.  Just minor details, but i'm meticulous on details like that.

: Re: The Cantina
: Bozwevial July 17, 2009, 12:10:03 PM
The Battle of Geonosis hasn't happened yet.

Incidentally, that should cause some interesting encounters for you guys when news of the clone army gets out.

oh just a side note, i don't believe y'all defined how much if any that you would be paid by jabba.  Your conversation led more to doing a "good turn"/charitable service for jabba- its not even a favor cause he didn't ask for your help, y'all automatically offered it.

just fyi if y'all forgot about the payment issue.

also just another option to find out who has gone missing, is to find out through the republic aka representatives/contacts/ who know senators or ppl on coruscant who would know who was sent and why.  This may be an option the party may need pursue too.

so i went back and reviewed star wars episode 2 and apparently once the approval was granted for the creation of the GAR (Grand Army of the Republic) the battle of Geonosis that started The Clone Wars seemed only hours later, at the most one galactic standard day. So i assume we'll be thrown into the clone wars within one standard galactic day at the very most, and since the beginning of the campaign, the completion of that day is almost up if not already up.

Besides, the movie doesn't show everything, there could very well have been more than a week between the order to create the Clone Army and the Battle of Geonosis for example.
: Re: The Cantina

;)Yeah I understand, i just thought of the practical side: based upon what the guidelines of spacetravel, obi-wan being captured, howlong, the jedi would have taken to deliberate to rescue Obi-wan, and stuff like that. You are right, their is alot that it can be interpreted or led to be and storyline wise not really be.  But thanks for trying to keep the mystery factor.  This era is my favorite era. I guess i'm just excited to have our campaign in it.
: Re: The Cantina
: stevemfred July 22, 2009, 03:14:32 PM

: Re: The Cantina
: stevemfred July 23, 2009, 03:48:54 PM
I'll check into it some time.  Oh Bowen, I thought about drawing Jayce somemore, and i remember you character being rugged and wearing a robe/cloak, but also wearing armor.  I recall that only the Jedi in the Jedi order began wearing the clone trooper armor of the Kaminoan Armorsmiths.  I figured i could design some armor that would fit the same stats but not necessarily the clone trooper look-but could be similar if you want.  I also figured that it wouldn't be white-cause its not practical, the reason clone armor is white is do to the Kaminoans ego and preference etc, not on practical need for geography different from kamino. I pictured it to be more like greyish metalic, or even like a brownish hue to it too.

so what do you think
(http://stevemfred.homestead.com/files/jayce.jpg)

: Re: The Cantina

Before anyone complains about the mind trick thing, I'd like to give Torin's reasons:

1: Testing Alt's mental defenses
2: Making sure Alt knows the power of the Force and the Sith
3: Show Alt that the world is not always as it appears

Torin will inform Alt of the trick if it works.

: Re: The Cantina
: stevemfred August 03, 2009, 04:53:56 PM
I wanted to bring this up since Torin asked about my char's armor I had  two questions  to ask, but first to explain a few things before I ask it:

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Phase_I_clone_trooper_armor
"With some design assistance from Jango Fett, the basic armor design became composed of twenty form-fitting plates of lightweight plastoid-alloy composite, sealed to a black bodysuit and weighed just under forty kilograms. Because the armor would be used by an army of physically identical clones, only one size was needed. It loosely resembled Mandalorian shock trooper armor"
The Republic Clone Commando (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Clone_commando) had clone armor (Katarn-Class clone armor) which was a version of the clone armor but resembled even more the Mandalorian Shock Trooper, and were personallly trained by Mandalorians the Cuy'val Dar (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Cuy'val_Dar) and were taught Mando'a and the mandalorian heritage and culture, they are Mandalorians.

In the Republic Commando Novels by Karen Traviss (Hard Contact, Triple Zero, And True Colors, Order 66) in paticular Hard Contact when the clone commandos are seen by non GAR people on the planet Qiilura where a mandalorian, Ghez Hokan, had been seen in his red Beskar'gam armor (traditional Mandalorian Shock trooper armor like Jango and Boba Fett) by many of the population, and the Jedi Etain concerning Darman the clone commando that is met:

Etain could see the distinctive full-face Mandalorian helmet of Ghez Hokan.
The sinister T-shaped slit told her all she needed to know. [but really it was Darman in his commando armor]
....
Well, it wasn’t Ghez Hokan. That was all she could tell.
....
[Darman] realized how frightening he looked

....
She watched him attach the armor plates, and when he finally replaced his helmet he knew he didn’t care how conspicuous he looked in it, because he wasn’t going to take it off again in a hurry. He needed that edge.
....
“Blasters. Explosives.” The Weequay made an indication of great width with his hands.“Big gun. They got armor with knives in gloves.”
“Describe.”
“Like yours.”
“What do you mean, like mine?”
Guta-Nay indicated his head and made a T-shape with his fingers. “Your helmet.”
It was difficult to take in. Guta-Nay was an inarticulate brute, but there was no ambiguity in his description. “Are you saying they were wearing Mandalorian armor?”
“Yeah. That it.”
“You’re sure about that.”
“Sure.”
“Anything else?” Hokan wondered how he expected this creature to be able to assess intelligence.
“Anything else unusual?”
Guta-Nay concentrated on the question as if his life depended on it, which it did not; Hokan would kill him anyway. “They all look the same.”
“They were wearing uniforms?”
“No, the men. Same faces.”
....
There was a man in armor very similar to their own, standing with a familiar helmet tucked under one arm. He was middle-aged and his hard face and confident attitude said clearly that he was a Mandalorian. It had to be Ghez Hokan.
....
How dare the Republic use Jango Fett to create this abomination. How had Fett let this happen? Hokan edged closer. He could see a body in the grass now. He could see light-colored, dirt-caked metallic armor very similar in design to his own, but bulkier and more complex.

I was reading in the Scum & Villany book p.48 under Beskar'gam:
***I am curious if my char's clone commando armor fits under the same advantage as listed in the S&V about being granted favorable circumstances on persuasion checks to intimidate as the true mandalorian Beskar'gam armor?***

My other question is based upon the books too concerning the clone commando armor.  It is quoted many times as being "blast-resistant" or as the beskar'gam quote says "strong enough to deflect blaster fire"
Because mandalorian beskar'gam armor and the clone commando armor are designed to be so similar I was curious:

Here's info on the mandalorian side:
http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Mandalorian_armor

Throughout Mandalorian history, three major features remained constant in Mandalorian Armor design:

The wearer was protected from the majority of all blaster fire. Armor made of actual Mandalorian iron, which could also deflect blaster bolts, made it lightsaber-resistant.
The helmets almost always possessed a T-shaped visor and a sophisticated heads-up display (HUD).
Mandalorian warriors decorated their armor to reflect personal accomplishments, clan affiliation, or simply personal preference. They often repainted their armor to reflect rank, clan, and possibly the current terrain. They were also known to paint their armor in the traditional colors that represented specific causes the individual might currently be undertaking. The colors, however, did not always have a specific meaning. Sometimes they were just colors that the particular Mandalorian liked. Some Mandalorians wore pieces of armor to honor relatives, both dead and alive. As of the clone wars however, these colors were known to have significance:
Gray=Mourning a Lost Love, Red=Honoring a Father, Black=Justice, Gold=Vengeance, Green=Duty, Blue=Reliability
Mandalorian armor was traditionally made out of almost indestructible Mandalorian Iron (beskar), but this was rare and expensive, so many Mandalorians, such as Jango and Boba Fett, opted for less durable materials instead, such as durasteel or duraplast. The Galactic Empire mined much of the beskar off of the surface of Mandalore, so for a time it was nearly impossible to get any. However the Yuuzhan vong blasted craters deep into Mandalore that were later found to have opened up several new Beskar mines. The name for the armor in Mandalorian, beskar'gam, meant Iron skin, or Iron carapace(for Mando members without normal skin), because the Mandalorian Iron was a crucial part of the armor design for milennia, until just before the Clone Wars. The secret of producing armor made from Mandalorian iron was kept within the Mandalorian clans for years. Some Mandalorians would also wear capes on the outside of their armor.

Boba Fett's armor. The classic Mandalorian design could also be seen in the armor of clone troopers, and evolved from the basic clone trooper and commando Katarn armor specs to those of the armor of Imperial stormtroopers. The ARC clone troopers and a few commanders wore Kama, the long almost skirt-like extensions from their waist, which were parts of older Mandalorian armor design and often contained pockets for hidden weapons.

There were a few special suits of mention from the Galactic Civil War. Some of the most famous were worn by the bounty hunters Boba Fett and Jodo Kast, although unlike traditional Mandalorian armor theirs were made from durasteel. Rumors also told of possibilities of crafting a set of Mandalorian armor in the dreaded Death Watch Bunker on Endor. Montross wore his armor while dueling Jango Fett on Kohlma, unfortunately the Bando Gora clawed him to death despite his armor.

in Hard Contact
....
A clone trooper settled down next to him, squeezing into the gap and briefly clunking a shoulder plate against his. They glanced at each other. Darman rarely had any contact with the other clones: commandos trained apart from everyone, including ARC troopers. The trooper’s armor was white, lighter, less resistant; commandos enjoyed upgraded protection. And Darman displayed no rank colors.
But they both knew exactly who and what they were.
“Nice Deece,” the trooper said enviously. He was looking at the DC-17: troopers were issued the heavier, lower-spec rifle, the DC-15. “Ion pulse blaster, RPG anti-armor,and sniper?”
“Yeah.” Every item of his gear was manufactured to a higher spec. A trooper’s life was less valuable than a commando’s. It was the way things were, and Darman had never questioned it—not for long, anyway. “Full house.”
....

in Triple Zero
....
The cabin was silent once more. Fi slid his helmet back on, sealed the collar, and concentratedon the artificial horizonof his HUD to convince his stomach which way was up. The Mark III Katarn armor now had more enhancements and was rated blaster-resistant up to light cannon rounds. Every op was full of new surprises from GAR Procurement—like a birthday, according to Skirata, although Fi, like all his brothers, had never celebrated one.
....

obviously there are weakness in the armor like under the arm pits and the neck area and wear the black undersuit is more exposed-
But my other question is whether or not you will allow my commando armor to be blaster-resistent too as in the books and stats that show up in the starwars expanded universe.
This could be done by DR of 10 for Durasteel as found on the statistics for substances SE Corerule Book p152 and the difference if the damage exceeded the DR of 10 would then be considered bludgeoning (ie from intense impact, shockwave, etc),

or complete invulnerability agaisnt energy damage by ranged weapons large to small (heavy and exotic being excluded),

(I figure my first suggestion is more accurate and balancing for SWSE)

I could find more quotes and stuff if need be.

I just thought-what if nobody has a medpac, and someone is injured in combat (like slashing or piercing damage) and someone has mesh tape and trained in treat injury to help aid the injured character, and the one wanting to help makes a "jury-rig" (like under the Mechanics skill) type of Treat Injury skill check using the mesh tape to seal the wound, aid with pressure, etc...

Kind of like how the joke is that you can practically do anything all you need is a little bit of duct tape ...  :)

I know Boy Scouts wouldn't hesitate to do it in real life  :D

mesh tape = advanced duct tape

Kinda like using superglue to close cuts and all that :P

Yeah, I had forgotten about that one too. lol Did you know that's what superglue was originally designed for -closing wounds.

I was just reflecting on some fun and good memories when I was a Boy Scout- good times

Yeah I know, that's why I mentioned it :)

Heck, I've used it like that myself once when I had a nasty gash on my finger and no bandaids at hand. It burns like hell, but it definitely works :P

I'm vaguely here. I've been  growing distant from the BG boards
