Soul eater
« on: October 05, 2009, 01:05:30 PM »
I have gotten a lot of help for my fast scout so i figured i would ask for some help on another more breakable character.
I am going to be starting a gestalt game in 2 weeks, it is an evil campaign so i want to make a soul eater. i am going to try and get in using changling with the feral template. i had planned on fighter/ warshaper/ soul eater. but i dont know what to do on the other side

If you have any sugestions that can get me started on a build i will see what i can do and then post it for review.

Thanks for the help.

There was a Soul Eater Handbook on the WotC optimization board. I'd suggest looking in there.

For gestalt, I'd say martial stuff + Soul Eater on one side, and some kind of caster on the other. Monk levels will actually help, as you can use your Flurry of Blows on top of your natural weapon attacks. Stick that on the "martial + Soul Eater" side. You basically want as many attacks as possible, and then add on other useful things like mobility, defenses, etc (and spellcasting on one side can give you pretty much everything you need).

One of the tips in there was to use Warforged...

I wonder if you could gestalt into a Totemist, grabbing Girallon's Arms and the soulmelds that grant a tail attack...

Is there something wrong with that?

Nope... I was merely saying what I remember from the handbook.... I didn't say anything against that....

For a moment, I thought I posted it wrong...

The best possible thing to do with Soul Eater is get as MANY Natural Attacks as possible.

Flurry of Blows and Snap kicks gets you what, 8 a round? Then the two claws and bite from feral turn that into 11 attacks. Then those Abberant feats to get you two tentacles. Be a shifter, that's one more, then warshaper gets you another attack. Without trying to hard, that is... 15 attacks per round. Each bestows two negative levels. Oh hell, turn your other side into a Druid! Turn into an Octopus! That's... 8 tentacles, 8 unarmed, 1 warshape! That's 17 at half the cost! And you get full Druid casting :) And as said before, if you could swing Totemist into it, that's a considerable more amount of natural attacks.

Other things to try, if you can get the type for it, Rapid Strike. There are also grafts to add more attack options. And template stacking, which is actually a really strong option here.

Do you know what the starting level will be?  Also, can't the warshaper grow a nearly infinite number of natural weapons?

RAW, you have as many Natural Attacks as you spend move actions, that last as long as the "shift."
RAI, you can grow one. I say this because it mentions "changing as often as he likes," which wouldn't be said if you could just get another,.

Remember: Soul Eater has to be non-humanoid.  Best enteries IMHO are Elan+some way to net natural attacks (for Rapidstrike), Warforged (nothing else needed), and Dragonwrought Kobold (nothing else needed and they qualify for Rapid Strike).

Also, if you find a low LA template that changes type (Feral works), changeling is wonderful when combined with Warshaper: unlimited access to those abilities.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

found the soul eaters handbook!. i had just assumed that it was lost along with so much other stuff. Thanks.
For my build war shaper is as many as you want....but there is a built in roleplay aspect that prevents a billion tentecals

Every time i kill something with negative levels i can grow a new weapon...it is kind of lame but atleast it is slightly toned down lol

One thing i have noticed that i will have to take care of on one side is things that are immune to level drain and negitive energy...undead, elementals, and other assorted beasties

i love that build. thinking about scorcerer on the other side

The reason druid is so strong is because you can qualify with Wildshape for Warshaper, and it lasts basically forever, and you get access to RIDICULOUS combat forms. Turning into a Dire Octopus is so strong! Or anything like that... oh and Full Casting. Better casting then a sorc too.

Elan Monk/Something/Soul Eater/Warshaper//Druid

Don't go feral. Why? Rapid Strike for suuuupeper lots of attacks per turn. If you come against energy drain immune things, fall back on druid spellcasting.

If you want to take martial levels, dual wielding keen aptitude necrotic focus kukri's with the feats lighting mace and eagles fury along with the stance blood in the water seems like it would work well. In order to make this crazier, play a Thi Keen.

Necrotic Focus allows the attack to be channeled through the weapon.
