But if Sohala doesn't have his heart set on a spiked chain, and just wants a reach weapon which also threatens adjacent, can be used to trip, gives a +2 bonus on disarm attempts, and can be used with Weapon Finesse, in the Bludgeoning flavor of damage, the chain lash fits the bill.

Q 203 If a blade barrier is cast and an Initiate of the Seven Veil is standing in the middle of it with a violet ward up, does the blade barrier get completely destroyed, or just around him?

Well yes,but this is for an Npc so there goes that.....If it helps further the Npc in question is Storm Giant......If you are going to take VoP on a melee character be a monk (or a druid ) if you want to do decent damage... as a storm giant you would likley hit quite hard...
