Handling light sources in Combat.
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:20:31 AM »
Im running a campaign where the sun has been blotted out. Im looking for a few ideas to make combat run more smoothly in regards having mobile light sources on 1 or multiple characters. So far I have been letting the PCs use my 10 and 20 foot radius wire templates, but they are bit hard to move around the battlefield.

ooh, that's a toughie.

I've heard of good results using a projector for a battlemat; if you can get the right filter onto a gooseneck lamp you might be able to use an actual circle of light as your lightsource

Use a piece of transparency plastic glued to a character token? Basically use it like a 20ft radius character token.

It's also a little cold because of that.
Please get it a blanket.

I wish I could read your mind,
I can barely read mine.

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

The actual light idea is probably best if you can move it.  That way you don't have to disrupt any of the minis.

Other than that, I'd say eye-ball it.  It's a bit of a pain, but it's not that hard to count out two or four squares from a source.  It's (IMO) a lot less hard than moving some other template with the PC every time.

Totally true.  Historians believe that most past civilizations would have endured for centuries longer if they had successfully determined Batman's alignment.
