: The Forgotten Forge
: Sohala September 22, 2010, 02:25:12 AM
Part One: Death in the Upper City

Curtains of water fall from the sky as you traverse the labyrinthine walkways of Sharn. The stone and wooden paths wind around and between the towers and spires high above the ground, forming a complex latticework that can be very confusing on evenings such as this. The rain falls hard, running off higher walkways and balconies in drenching waves, making it difficult to see much more than a few feet ahead of you. The distant glow of everbright lanterns, barely visible in the soaking gloom, does little to light the paths on this warm, wet evening.
A spot check of 18 for the information in the next spoiler.
You spot a figure in a dark cloak moving quietly through the rain on the skybridge ahead. It seems to be avoiding the dim pools of light cast by the everbright lanterns, preferring to stay to the shadows. Lightning flashes,
and you see a shape on the stone floor of the bridge in the brief illumination. The figure quickly reaches the railing of the skybridge, then slips over the barrier and disappears into the darkness and the rain.

Sim makes his way across the bridge from infront of the fountain, heading along the lower edge of the bridge. His appearance for the moment is of a tall male human with short blonde "spiky" hair, brown eyes and tanned skin. Hiw explorer's cloak keeping him rather dry for the most part, the large hood pulled up over his head as he attempts to see through the rain.

Cumulo walks briskly through the rain, unmindful of the chill.  Frost momentarily rimes the edges of his footprints, as he peers through the darkness. Icy eyes spotting an altercation, he lets out a shout "Halt!  Criminal Scum!", and rushes over to the bridge.  He looks over the edge for a second, trying to spot the figure, then turns to the victim.  Bending over, he checks whether or not the victim is beyond his help.

One Self is walking into the area from "A", heavy "clank, clank, clank" footsteps marring his path.   One sees the fountain where one was to meet Old Gerald, the man with some of the earliest forgecraft notebooks, and a scene unfolding.  One walks towards it, not knowing what is happening.

Hiding in a bush near A, Marl has been consumed with eating the fish he stole from a shop earlier today, his Psi-Crystal hovering and watching, while Marl degorges himself upon the fish, hearing the loud noise yell for a criminal a shiver runs down his spine and he slowly walks out the bush, hoping it wasn't him that was someone was out looking for he looks around, but being fairly sure it wasn't him, he goes to investigate the person who yelled.
"Who goes there?" Cracks his squeaky voice from underneath his breath, terrified that enemies might be approaching, he clutches his staff.

The skybridge ahead spans the distance between platforms attached to the sides of two different towers—Dalannan Tower and the Kelsa Spire. A body lies on the floor of the bridge, and you can see a mixture of rain and blood pooling around it. A leather satchel, still clutched tightly in the body’s hand, lies in the expanding puddle of water and gore.

The small ball of arcane light, hovering just above and behind his left shoulder, illuminates the area. To each side, a human male and female stand with halberds at the ready.

“Olladra’s bloody nose!” the dwarf curses. “By order of the Watch, drop your weapons and explain yourselves!”

"Marl didn't do anything!" The kobold screams in his squeaky voice while dropping his crossbow.

"I heard fighting and decided to aid these people against something that seemed like a very aggresive warforged.I assume he was the one that murdered this gentleman." He says while pointing to the corpse of the scholar.

I'm pretty sure this cloaked warforged was possessed.  I don't see any reason why anyone would try to kill a warforged up on that bridge and then jump off when prevented from finishing the job.  Why the hell would anyone in their right minds resist the bridge's featherfall?  Just ask the warforged up there who got disabled, I'm sure he'll corroborate.

He sticks out his hands to be cuffed.

Still, I appreciate your dedication to justice.  Do you mind if I recollect the device I attempted to incapacitate him with before we go back to the station?  It was a gift from my coatl mentor, and has sentimental value.
It seems like I should be able to re-coalesce some of the sand as an act of will - maybe just subtract the weight of a normal pair of manacles from my remaining sand and call it good... wait a second, you fall 150 feet in the first round, and with featherfall you fall 60 feet.  I doubt the sand would fall faster than the warforged once detached from his limbs, so Cumulo had plenty of time to reform it into something easier to collect, like a parachute or something.

Casting cause fear was predicated upon him featherfalling -  I don't have range for it otherwise.
Sim puts his hands up, palms out to show the watch members that he is not armed. "We happened upon a dead body upon the bridge, after a few moments of checking it out, we were attacked by a cloaked figure with an axe. The cloaked figure turned out to be a Warforged who has just jumped over the bridge after a short skirmish in which he disabled that warforged." Motioning to One "One of the others who had found the dead body followed him in an attempt to prevent his escape."

“I am afraid not, it will be confiscated until such time as your guilt or innocence can be decided.”  Glancing over to the cadet, “Well step lively, I don’t want to miss my afternoon tea.” The cadet produces a pair of metal loops, connected by only a couple links of chain, which is connected to his person. Mean while Biggles bends over and retrieves the statue. It gives a salute to the other member of the watch, “Hold down the fort until back-up arrives, and then get this body off my street. Now then let’s gets moving.” The cadet takes the lead and the five feet of chain between you two grows taut.

The dwarf raises an eyebrow at the kobold’s story, and then the other at the human’s story, “So, you both are saying that a warforged killed this man, ran away, and came back to attack you, and then jumped over the side while someone jumped after him?” He asked skepticism thick in his voice. Looking over to one of the other members of the Watch, “Did someone mark my head, again, or does that sound like one of the wildest stories that we have heard in awhile?”  The other two give a small chuckle at the question. The dwarf lets out a sigh be speaking again, “Seeing as I have only your word on the matter, I am sorry to say that a higher source of justice is going to be required in such a matter.” Talking to his helpers, “Take their weapons and bind their hands so we can get back to the bar.”

"Well, to me it makes sense, these bridges are protected with magic making it impossible to die from jumping over them, throwing yourself over them would be the perfect escape, since the fall is rather long, momentum could see you end up rather far away or even on a bridge lower down. For a watch looking to protect this city against heinous criminals, this should happen close to every day. Nevertheless, I'm sure you have a gratified system of justice that will see us through." Says Marl, attempting the guards to sweet talk the guards into letting him go, while he hands them his dagger, his 19 bolts for his crossbow, and motions to the rather small crossbow while saying "That is mine by the way."

The dwarf just nods and then shakes his head, you can hear him mumble, “I need a vacation…”

The other two members of the Watch come up, one take you weapons, while the other put a pair of metal loops, connected by only a couple links of chain, which is connected to his person, onto your wrists.

“Alright, you two get them to the nearest holding cell; I’ll wait here until the medics arrive…” He shook his head again, “…while I get soaked to the bones.”
Unless you plan on trying to run for it after being cuffed, I will jump ahead a small bit.
Cumulo is taken to a Watch station and tossed in a cell, where his bindings are removed. A few minutes later Sim and Marl are brought in and unbound. Lastly One is dragged into the cell, after the guard closes the door, she pulls out a small stick tapping him with it.

He waits a moment for the rest of the introductions to finish up

I believe I saw a small creature detaching from the warforged midair; possession seems to be a likely cause, though I could detect only a single set of thoughts coming from the warforged.  It is possible that it was a nonsentient device creating an artifical geas, or the possessing entity had defenses against detection.

I am currently on a detached assignment for my Order, and will be for the foreseeable future.  Given the evidence for a possible supernatural evil at work, I am confident I will be assigned to investigation.  If possession or mental control is involved, I would greatly prefer to work with people I'm sure aren't already influenced.  Given our shared involvement in the altercation, I believe it unlikely that any of us is.

Given the current, "stretched-thin", state of my Order, I doubt that substantial support will be forthcoming.  It would be very beneficial to have some trustworthy allies.

The kobold looks around the room, seeming to remember something

Speaking of magic, now when I brought it up myself, I saw you use an array of powers before, Cumulo was it? Would you mind letting me "borrow" some of your powers, I'm especially looking for something that can heal wounds, since it will benefit our entire group, should you be injured I could cure you right back, well, I believe you servants of the silver flame are granted such powers by divine mandate, am I not correct?

After several hours of rest, and no word from anybody, you hear the sound of boots in the hallway. They slowly approach; as they get closer you can see lights in the hallway. When they get close enough, you see it is the dwarf and an unknown face, both in Watch uniforms, the latter is carrying all of your gear. The dwarf produces a key from one of his pockets and goes to unlock the door. “Your patron seems to have cleared up everything, you are free to go.”

You exit the building to find the same place you entered from, a small space outside the Watch outpost, which has only one pathway to the rest of the city. A true servant of The Silver Flame would never look down upon a person solely because of their reptilian origin.  For, are not the coatls wing-ed serpents?  And is not a coatl part of the very Flame itself?

It might be advisable for One-Another to be in a reasonably secure location.  If there is a mechanical geas device, whomever is behind it might very well choose you as its next target.

Cumulo heads for Coldflame, with whoever decides to go with him.

She had been rather bothersome to my employer in recent weeks." A slight chuckle escapes the hood of the figure with One's comment. With hands shaking in mock fear, "Report what? That you were talked to by a cloaked figure that you didn't see the face of?"

Resuming its calm demeanor, "If the small talk is out of the way, I would like to finish my duty." It reached a hand into its cloak and pulled out a thin box.

When a warforged shouts "Die you flesh-loving traitor", and subsequently attempts murder, it is rather difficult to draw any conclusion other than an involvement of a warforged supremacist faction.

I will concede the possibility local vegetarians have become entirely too militant.

Chauser moves closer, trying to get a decent look at the box.

“I do not deny that Cutter was a radical of the Lord of Blades, but it still surprises me to hear the phrase from the likes of you.” You can hear a hint of disgust as the figure says this. As you move closer the figure pulls the box back some, “Now, now, lets not get grabby, you should first know this comes with a requirement, ‘All of you, or none of you’.”

For what you can see of the box, it is of fine make, and intricate design.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Mixster October 12, 2010, 12:48:28 PM
The kobold feints disinterest in the box.

Marl knows there's always a catch, tell us what it is. And we can consider it. His voice is brimming with excitement, and his fingers are twitching want to touch the box.

Perhaps the're distinct reasons why a group of Warforged is acting like that. Like perhaps some brigand is trying to re-create the slavery of the warforged, perhaps we should look into this?

“It is rather simply. My employeer heard of the events on the bridge and cleared up the small matter with the Watch, now she wishes for a small exchange of services, for fair compensation of course. Her only requirement, is that you all take part, seeing as you are all free…for now.” With that the figure tossed the box into the air…
First to post, or whoever you want to catch it, may do so.
…When you turn you gaze back to where the figure was, there is no one.

As you are able to get a closer look at the box, you see it is a 12x12x1, and has a seal on the lid, which is presently held closed by a small clasp.

Cumulo walks on in.
Good evening.  There's been a bit of nasty business going on, so I'm putting these folks up in the spare rooms across from mine for the night.  I'll explain the details to Flamebearer Tana in the morning and get his advice.

I should probably check to make sure it isn't something magically unpleasant first.

I believe there are still repair tools there from the last warforged who visited.  If One finds Oneself in need of repairs, they are free for One's use.

Cumulo goes to his devotions with cheer!  You have to be a morning person to serve the Silver Flame for any length of time.  He prays for spells in the inner chapel, then heads off to assist Flamebearer Tana with the temple's daily tasks.

As they work, he explains the situation as best he can, answering Tana's infrequent questions as completely as possible.  "I find the timing of these events, immediately as I am sent here, far too convenient to be coincidental.  It seems probable that the Flame is giving this to me as a trial to ready me for greater tasks to come.  As I am inexperienced, however, I will trust your judgment over my own.  What is your advice for the road ahead?"
Spells refreshed!  I've prepared Omen Of Peril (CD 171), Obscuring Mist, Cause Fear, 2x detect magic, and 1x cure minor wounds.

"If you, yourself believe these events are more than mere happenstance, then I sanctify your endeavors. I hope only that you watch for the Flame and listen for the Wind." "Now go my child, and spread the glow of the Flame."

Gearhead Lounge - Day 2

The Gearhead Lounge is a small, but well kept, tavern. The large and very detailed carving above the door proclaims it a business run by House Cannith. Outside the doors is a pair of large looking warforged. The second floor extends out enough that they are in the shade.

The warforged on either side of the door turn their gaze to you. As you cross the threshold, you can feel the IDs given to tingle a moment, but nothing more happens, and the warforged remain where they are standing.

In the building the lighting is dimmer than outside. There seems to be a low murmur with all the conversations and activities going on. Roughly half the tables in the establishment are occupied, with the widest assortment of patrons you have ever seen, ranging from blue goblins to winged humanoids. You could swear the top of one of the patrons seems familiar to something you have read about, but as you think that, it turns around. To your shock (or not) is a grey green humanoid, with tentacles coming from its mouth. Its eyes seem to bore into you, and then it turns its attention back to what it was doing.

Each of the tables has a Cannith seal on it, but not. Each is slightly different from the others in its own way.

Other than a few glances your way, no one looks like they are overly interested in you.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Mixster January 14, 2011, 10:35:18 AM
Marl looks around for a mark that matches the mark on the papers given, sometimes jumping to get a good look at the table, since he isn't that tall. He rummage around and tries not to get pushed aside by the larger folk of this tavern.

As soon as he saw the tentacly creature he felt much more secure, if these people allow non-humanoids to work for them, they will probably not mind working with dragons.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Sohala January 14, 2011, 12:07:27 PM
It takes you a few minutes of searching, but you eventually find a table with a seal matching yours. It is towards the back, in the more private section, with each table set into a recess with curtain doors. It is presently empty.

At this point, an eccentric walks in, and is greeted by one or two people upon his entrance. Lifting the goggles from his eyes and leaving them on his forehead, he takes a quick squint around the bar, his eyes eventually setting on a very specific table. He makes his way casually over, saying hi to one or two others before setting in a chair in the private booth. "Glad you made it here alright. Gentlem.... Humanoids. Are any of your our employer? He holds up a piece of paper that bears the seal matching the that of this particular table. After a moment with no affirmative answer he sighs.

I hope you'll tolerate a modicum of distrust from us; for all we know the whole assault could have been a setup.  The guards *did* respond unusually quickly, and although Cannith has a good reputation it wouldn't be the first time one of the Houses involved outsiders in some byzantine mechanizations.  My oaths do not forbid underhanded activity, but I'm going to need to see a little more information before I agree to go along with you.

Seeming to walk out of no where, a figure starts heading towards your table. Their features are concealed by a well made dark blue hooded cloak. The figure's appearance seems to animate one of the bartenders, as he hurries about, grabbing a few pitchers and glasses, and then rushing over to the table. A simple nod from the figure sends the bartender on his way. The content of the pitchers appears to be ale, wine, and water.

From under the hood a soft but clear voice can be heard, "It would appear you are all here." As the figure says this, they close the curtains around the alcove, and then lowers their hood. The person beneath it is a human female that has delicate features, dark blue eyes, and sleek black hair bound with silver and turquoise ornaments. She wears a signet ring of House Cannith on her right ring finger. "We have important business to discuss that relates to the unfortunate death of Bonal Geldem. Please, drink what you will." She said gesturing towards the pitchers.

(Knowledge (local 15):
This is Elaydren d’Vown of House Cannith, a cousin of the blood but not an heir.
"I have been working with Provost Geldem to recover a family heirloom," Lady Elaydren explains. "We were to meet last night, but as you know, he never made it. I learned from the Watch what had transpired, and so sent one of my men to track you down."  She continues. "The heirloom, according to family legends, was locked away in a foundry that dates back to pre-Galifar Sharn. Poor Bonal believed he discovered the location of the foundry in an ancient House Cannith journal. I was going to fund an expedition to go to the site, but without Bonal..." Her voice trails off. Then she leans close. "Perhaps you would be willing to recover the heirloom for me. For a generous reward, of course."

"Even I have a small forge workshop within House Cannith's many walls. Did he happen to have a work location in-city? Marllow has an odd way of being quite still and silent, up until a single moment of action. After which, naturally, he sinks quietly back down. Searching his belongings seems like a decent plan to follow. If nothing else it could give us a clue to whether they have been searched before.

After that he sits still for a while while he transmits to his psi-crystal: >>Are you allright?<<

She replies to each of your questions in turn. "He had a small room for housing adjoined to the Morgrave University, but it has been thoroughly searched, by able hands, with no results."

"His last apprentice left his service over a year ago, other than that, I thought I was the only one to truly follow his research. As to questioning his deceased corpse...as disturbing as such an action is, it proved a failure."

The lady sighed, "If only we could find his journal...he kept most of his notes in it...but his killer must have grabbed it while trying to steal his belongings and lost it in the fall."
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: archangel.arcanis January 19, 2011, 01:02:49 PM
His killer was the tin man who tried to fly?

Well my lady I accept you task as an opportunity to prove myself and grow. If the rest of you are in as well I think we should start by searching the area around the scene of the crash.

"As a member of House Cannith, my participation is not optional, and I serve gladly. Sumabah's selection is sound, and of course any leads on the journal should be investigated thoroughly.

"Is there any other lead we have to go on, m'lady? Just so that we are fully prepared for this task. Even if it is only speculation."
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Sohala January 19, 2011, 02:03:05 PM
She gives a nod to your acceptance and answers your question. "Yes, they are one and the same."

"None that I am aware of."

One had been silent until now, unsure if to speak or not, but the mention of the book compelled him to speak, "Didn't we find a bo-" he is cut short as he grunts, and a confused look appears on his metal face.

The lady perked up at One's comment, but questioned its abrupt ending. "Found a what?"

: Mixster January 19, 2011, 04:24:39 PM
Marl looks over his shoulder towards the door, look for the person with "bow on belt" if the description proves incomplete, he asks for a description of their clothes.
>>Thank you friend, keep me updated, if anyone touches you contact me immediately, so I can protect you<<

He returns to the conversation at hand.
This mystery intrigues me, I am willing to lend a hand if my troubles get compensated. And yes, we should perhaps search and question at the scene of the crash, but I doubt it would be tremendously useful.

Remembering the book Marl says:
Oh yeah who was it that kept that? The one with the Mithril lining, should we take a look on it. It is magical, so useful knowledge could be inside it.
*Rereads thread* Oh right...Sim has it.  :blush
Sim let out a heavy sigh, pulled reached into his bag, and then toss the book from the day before on the table. "Here." He then crossed his arms, staring dagger at One.

Shock is clear on the lady's face, "You found it! But where?"

"It may have been on the bridge before the Watch got there..." Replied Sim.

Not even seeming to be worried about the last comment, she snatches up the book. Her signet ring and the mithral threads on the cover glow in unison as she takes hold of the small book. When she opens it, the blank pages immediately begin to fill with delicate script and line drawings. She turns to a specific page, studies it for a moment, and then pulls a folded map from inside her cloak. “The location of the lost foundry is deep within the Dorasharn Tower,” Lady Elaydren proclaims. “Fifty-seven levels below the tower’s present-day sewer system. My offer is one thousand gold pieces and the good will of my house if you recover the heirloom and return it to me. Is that agreeable?”

: Re: The Forgotten Forge

Having lost any sense of an upper hand, Sim replies, "I suppose, as I am not busy, I could help out."

Seeing everyone else agree to the terms, One pipes up, "I will help too."

"Very good." She pulls out a sack of from her cloak, dropping it onto the table with a loud clink, "You will be needing these as well." She drops two folded pieces of parchments onto the table beside the sack. "If there are no other questions, you may be on your way, don't worry about your tab." She goes back to reading the book as the curtain seems to part on its own.

Something like this was good for the house, so Marllow was pleased. He noted the feeling mentally, then took up one of the pieces of parchment. "Thank you m'lady. As One and Sim make to leave, a look of sudden surprise crosses your host's face, "You two,"  Pointing at Sim and One, "I would ask you to remain."

*Sigh* "What is it now? Did we do something wrong?"  Questioned Sim.

Excuse me, One, but do you know anyone we can talk to about what Old Gerald was working on?  It might be best for you to do a separate investigation - at a sensitive time like this, it might be prudent not to have a bunch of highly visible strangers asking questions.  We'd both be working on the job together, obviously, but having us run interference in the riskier parts of the investigation will make your efforts far more effective.

57 levels below the sewer is a long way to fall. I don't know if I particularly trust the feather fall of the bridges to last that long. I think we should find a way to climb down, unfortunately that probably means walking in shit.
“Rat’s Market” is a colloquial term for a number of floating mercantile concerns that periodically spring up at various places in the lower levels of the city. Most of their merchandise consists of salvaged goods from the sewers and refuse heaps of lower Sharn, although stolen items sometimes wind up in the depths as well.

You are able to follow the detailed map with reliative ease and without incedent, though the walk takes several hours, leaving it close to midafternoon.

As you near the location marked on the map, the tunnels and corridors start to narrow and and become dark. An occasional window slit looks out upon the crowded walls and foundations of other towers, and infrequently placed torches sputter here and there, giving off pallid pools of light and clouds of smoke. Even so, rough and dirty people crowd the narrow corridors, and the smell of sweat and sewage permeates the stale air.

One tunnel opens onto a large chamber, where a mix of goblins, humans, and shifters gather around a small pile of garbage spread across three rotting blankets. One of the goblins shouts, “No pushing! No pushing! There’s always enough for everyone at the Rat’s Market!”

The garbage is of a nice variaty, for garbage, ranging from rotten food to broken tools, but you do spot a few items that may hold a little bit of value. Among them you see a sunrod, a dented bell, a scratched steel mirror, and if you are not mistaken a coil of rope.

"I wouldn't know much about our climbing needs..." Thankful for the tight strap on his pack, Marrlow tries to stay close to the group without seeming too conspicuous. His House didn't often seek to come down this far, and there were of course the stories of thieves and murderers abound that served as his only knowledge of this portion of the great city. Still, he kept an eye out for anything that might be a rare valuable, or something of use otherwise barred from sales in the higher markets...

Cumulo is a little uneasy about this area, not having slummed quite so... slummy before.  His fingers beat a quiet tattoo against his bracers as he traces the metal studs forming his holy symbol.  That an obviously irritated monster of a man could possibly seem intimidating couldn't be farther from his mind.

"How much for the rope, my friend?" Marl says. Looking intently at the goblin with his reptillian eyes.

"This fine rope?" The goblin reached down and pulled up one end of some dirty rope. It gave a Marl a look up and down, as if sizing him up and then spoke again, "For you good friend, I can part with it for 30 coppers." He says with a smile, exposing some not so pleasant teeth.

He had some soot and grime from the forges, but still was clad cleanly, which worried him. "Metal last so much longer than memories. Or people. Why not rid yourself of memories from below, memories of a few strangers asking about your rope? We could take those off your hands for something more substantial..." Marllow's right hand hangsout in front of him as he leans in, with five silver just barely showing in his grip. "What can we unburden you from, good friend?"

Ah yeah, the rascism of the big folk is something we could discuss for hours. Don't mind my travel companions, they are not used to us little ones. He leans in closer to whisper to the goblin: (I don't think Marl cares if you hear it, he'll apologise later)

The little goblin scratches his chin in thought, until he speaks again, "15 before we go, as you say there could be dangers and you may not make it out. After you return we can discuss further compensation." He directs the comments towards Marl, but after finishing he looks towards Marllow expectantly.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Flay Crimsonwind April 01, 2011, 06:09:06 PM
A single gold piece comes from behind Marllow's back, and is added to the five silver he holds. He doesn't relinquish his grip yet, however, and indeed pulls his hand away from the cloth as if to leave. "Paying someone to give us work, when the work would consist of us compensating them? Does he take us to be foolish fobs out for an adventure? It's a shame; my House has no contacts this low, and I was hoping for some personal business expansion. I cannot, however, insult my House with such prospects." He speaks softly enough to ensure that it is a whisper to the goblin, and able to be heard by Marl. After he finishes, he heads deeper into the allyway.

That's one thing he still had yet to understand as a human. Though his kind had personal dislikes, none of them had the cowardice to run from these qualms like the more mortal-kin did. A slightly confused look on his face, probably misread by those seeing it, crossed his ace as he turned back to the group. "I apologize, I hadn't expected such resistance. I think I should refrain from diplomacy in the future..."

Marllow lets his hand fall loose. One hand went to his crossbow, taken off his belt lightly, the other went to his pocket with the screwdriver. "We shouldn't let paranoia get the better of us." A commanding voice pipes up, "I don't want another word from you lot, we may need all the edge we can get. You two, get up there so we can get a better view." With that the voices fade.

The group moves on, taking twists and turns to a seemingly random order, still being no closer to knowing where they are.

After actually being told where you are seeking, Skakan becomes quite relieved. He then reassures the group that he knows exactly where it is and eagerly urges you back the way you just came from. A couple turns later you come to an intersection, Skakan rushes down one of the passages you had elected not to take. As you hurry to keep up, you start to enter a total enclosed tunnel, that’s when you see the little goblin waiting for you by a large bundle of pipes. Skakan points out a narrow passage that leads to a staircase that descends deeper into the tower.

He's nervous, but on the level.  For the moment, he's probably more worried about us than anyone else.  I'll take point.

: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Sohala September 05, 2011, 02:15:40 PM
With each step closer, the odor of mold and sewage becomes stronger, and you can hear liquid sounds increasing in volume. The light from the candle reveals a simply made tunnel, big enough for humans to pass single file. It descends 25' before coming to a landing and making a right turn. There also appears to be numerous cobwebs and bits of ragged cloth handing from the ceiling, which may obscure lighting.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Mixster September 05, 2011, 03:11:02 PM
Marl scouts 40 or so feet ahead of the rest of the group, keeping to the cover and shadow at the edge. He uses his darkvision (60ft) to spot any threads before they arrive, as well as keeping an eye on the group. He will pick up a piece of cobweb to find out whether he knows anything about it.

The cobwebs stick to you, resisting your attempts to remove it from your hands, but otherwise appears to be just regular cobwebs.

Having reached the landing you can see the stairs continue for another 5' down before running into 10' of running water. There is a grate visible in the water to your right. It blocks passage that way. Every few seconds you can hear some mechanical grinding, a hiss and then a rush of water.

: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Sohala October 06, 2011, 01:22:22 AM
Stepping into the disgusting sewer water, you discover it is only two feet deep. From your new vantage point you are able to see the tunnel widens in the next section. The widened area has raised sides, each with water worn grooves below metal circles. Just then one of the circles opens, revealing itself to actually being a metal iris valve. When the valve opens, there is first some mechanical grinding, followed by a hiss and then a rush of water, it then closes. As you watch other irises open and close, but you are unable to discern any pattern.
: Re: The Forgotten Forge
: Mixster October 11, 2011, 02:20:43 PM
We should probably make sure we don't fall into those valves, suggests Marl. Anyone got something to make sure that doesn't happen?
