Gestalt specialist sorcerers + arcane disciple + feats
« on: November 06, 2010, 11:31:37 AM »
Taking a look at the three specialist sorcerers in gestalt.

The goal here is to make the most effective use of and/or take arcane disciple as many times as possible.

pick one:
Dread Necromancer      //    whatever has the most bonus feats
Beguiler                    //     UA Warrior2, UA Expert2 ,   what else?
Warmage                 //

What are the best Deities / domains to take with arcane disciple?
Bonus points for covering a specific casters weaknesses!

Considerations so far:  Domains by Deity

The Faith of the Sun: I guess you have to pick a side
Creator Aspect: Air, Chaos, Earth, Good, Healing, Knowledge, Law, Luck, Magic, Protection, Sun, Travel
Destroyer Aspect: Chaos, Death, Destruction, Evil, Fire, Law, Strength, Trickery, War, Water

Odin: Air, Knowledge, Magic, Travel, Trickery, War

Io, Lord of the Gods: Dragon, Knowledge, Magic, Strength, Travel, Wealth, SPELL!!!

Anyspell sucks thanks to SpC nerfing.  It lets you prepare it in your domain slot, of which you have none.

For a Cleric, Time and Envy have the best spells not on the Cleric list (great stuff at low and high levels).

For Arcane Disciple, I'm a fan of Luck and Travel.  Travel has a lot of spells you probably would only cast once per day, and Luck has Miracle.  All those classes love Miracle, and none have Travel spells.

That 1/day limit with Arcane Disciple is the real killer, and MAD doesn't help.  IMO it isn't worth it to take more than twice.

Destiny Domain has Choose Destiny (but it's level 9). By itself maybe not incredible, but persist it and you have a reroll for every skill check, ability check, attack roll or saving throw made for a day. It's like saying GTFO to the opposition.

it's one spell per level per day,  my interpretation was that additional times taken gives you: one spell per level per day per domain, out of your existing spell slots.

on second thought,

Quote
Each day, you may prepare (or cast, if you cast spells without preparation) a maximum of one of these domains spells of each level.

it does say "domains" in the section BEFORE they mention taking the feat multiple times, so one could argue that in context, this may be a typo and they meant to say "this domains" or "these domain"

but if it's only one per spell level per day overall, it kinda hoses this whole idea

Edit: forgot about the Wis MAD, even worse!

Like I said, its really not great.  The only thing worth using it for is adding spells to your spell list.  Shadow Miracle is the best / most effective usage of the feat, and I don't really think that's all that useful.  9th level slots are just too valuable, and the access isn't really that much better than what can be accessed via the Wizard list aready.

Honestly, people really try to pimp spell access as really important, but it just isn't.  You only have so many actions per round per combat.  Its all theoretical gameplay where that becomes valuable, but at the table it just doesn't matter.

Not sure what you have access to for materials, but the best class to gestalt with all three of those classes is Eldrich Master from Dragon Mag #280.  Eldrich Master does the following:

1) Its level adds to your caster level for determing the effectiveness of spell variables.  It does not actually increase caster level or help with SR, you get this bonus with your normal caster progression in gestalt.

2) At 3rd, 6th, and 9th level you get bonus metamagic feats.

3) At 3rd, 6th, and 9th level you get a spell slot one level higher than you can currently cast.

4) At 4th and 8th level you add another spell casters list to yours .  Not, all of your classes automatically know all the spells on their list.  So you can easily add wizard and cleric lists to the spells known.

5) At level 10 you know whenever someone on the plane says your name.

The requirements are really easy to get in, you only need to be an arcane spell caster and have a skill or two at 8 ranks.  You can possibly add a 3rd bonus spell list if you are allowed to take levels in uncanny trickster to overlevel the class to 12th pre-epic.  This will give a bonus spell slot, metamagic feat, and your 3rd list.

Dreadnecromaner 20//Cleric 1/ Battle Dancer 1/Human Paragon 3/Eldrich Master 10/ 2x/ Uncanny Trickster 3
or
Dreadnecromancer 20// Cleric 1/ Battle Dancer 1/Human Paragon 3/Eldrich Master 10/Heirophant 5

Pick a neutral deity and channel both positive and negative energy.  Take alternative sourced spell to be able to convert arcane to divine and vice versa.  End result is alot of turn undead attempts to power up persistent divine metamagic (or Heirophant PrC access).

I think they already go the domains covered in teh above posts.
