Gestalt Unlimited (Helps the lower tiers!)
« on: November 06, 2010, 09:18:08 AM »
Gestalt Unlimited                    non casters want to play rocket tag too!

works just like Gestalt, except

BaB, HD, skills, etc (most things but NOT caster levels) stack from both classes

Redundant feats or class features can be traded in for a bonus feat, that you qualify for. (who needs evasion twice?)

redundant non casting class features can stack instead of "best progression" (sneak attack) (what about rebuking HD level? im thinking it should not stack)

So a Fighter // Barbarian would have: D22 HD, 6 skill points at each level, +40 BaB at lvl 20

While a Wizard // Erudite would be bumped up to D8 and some extra skills and that's about all this adds(compared to regular gestalt)

level appropriate skill caps apply

EDIT:   Saves stack too now

what do you guys think?
any suggestions for changes?
the point of this is to lessen the gap between full casters and every 1 else.

what to do with saves?     I think if they stacked it might help casters too much...

If saves stacked it'd actually hurt the casters more, since a lot of spells rely on saves. Though most casters have a few no-save, fuck you spells in their repertoire, they're kind of limited. +5 at first, +1/level ends up at good saves getting to 24 base. Who can reliably beat a d20+24 with their save DCs? (Average what, 34.5? 35.5?) So you just encourage rocket tag a little more with this change; the casters stop pulling punches with save-or-suck spells and start loading out the "Fuck You, DIE NOW" spells. So at high levels, rocket tag's still in effect, it's just a little more dire.

That's just my opinion, though.

ok great, you're making sense... so saves now stack,

what about rebuke HD level stacking and wildshape HD limit?

+40 BAB? Interesting. That's a shitload of attacks.

was thinking that to.  so a two weapon fighting pouncing barbarian/fighter with  shock trooper now gets 16 attacks at +40 damage ontop of his other bonuses.  and atleast half will hit?  i think this is a bad idea.  for one it will slow down combat terribly just rolling that many attacks every round.  not to mention damage.  i can see having base attack stacking up to +1 per level  but not +2 per level.

and the save things just means spells like forcecage and gate will be abused more since other spells wont work often enough to matter

the rule limits you from gainning attacks from Epic base attack bonus witch you cant get untill 21st level.

No actually, it doesn't let you gain more than 4 iterative attacks at all, from any source of BAB. Otherwise, monsters with high racial BAB would have more than 4 iteratives with weapons, but they don't.

I think this whole thing is an absolutely terrible idea which fails to address any real problems and definitely creates more than it solves. Non-casters are already capable of hitting things till they die fairly well, if optimized. And they have enough hit points that dying from spell damage isn't usually a problem, either (blasting spells suck in D&D 3.X). So adding more hit points and BAB isn't helping anything, and higher saves might help on some things, but encourages tactics that just ignore saving throws.

What non-casters need are ways to deal with things like flying (or otherwise very mobile), invisible enemies that can keep them from moving (BFC), and know what they're going to do before they do it.
