Opinion of BG
« on: October 25, 2010, 12:46:26 AM »
Personally, this is my home away from home within my home. It may have its problems, but its much more tolerable than places like Paizo (STARK WHITENESS), GiantITP (BANHAMMERS), or Gleemax (I think this was covered enough). I know there are places like TGD (amongst other prominent boards), but this is a fairly friendly forum.

Really, if I feel like wasting some time, I'll either Trope Binge or just start rereading the handbooks here.

I'd pay to see Cthulhu smite them both with a stripper pole.

Is there a history of BG anywhere? There should be, so we do not forget.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
[spoiler]Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.

it'd be about two paragraphs long, detailing meg being ran off from gleemax and the rats fleeing the sinking ship.

I'm a terrible optimizer, 'cause I don't devote much mindshare to it, but I like the atmosphere created by the optimizers from CO. When they moved to BG, so did I. :)

Ditto, to be honest, I can only manage a few "okay" builds without looking into a bunch of handbooks and threads on the subject. Still, after two weeks of reading the min/max forum over here I had picked up more than I had after a few months over at Gleemax. People here are allowed to be somewhat more honest I can't help but feel that it is easier to learn from the free masters than a caged student.

I like the atmosphere here mostly. Theres still some srs bzns going on, but it feels like a bunch of friends.
Plus, its better to be with people who have a clue, rather than people ignorant and proud of it.
Though I personally don't like doing heavy duty optimization much. Says the guy who spends 4-5 hours picking spells sometimes

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

I like the people (for the most part).  I'm meh on optimization.  Used to be big into the practical optimization side and had a guide and everything.  Now I just sit here and read threads without contributing much of anything...

I came on the first wave. I used to try to beat optimization records, but now I mostly just PbP and post in whatever min/max topics look interesting.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

I came here about a week after everyone else from Gleemax.  I seldom post at the WotC boards anymore, and when I did post at GitP, it was for OOTS and not for D&D.  I've started posting at the Den as well.

I tend to come here for general D&D discussion, homebrew stuff, and PbPs.  I tend to go to the Den for politics and overall design theory.
