Question about the "Belker"
« on: October 18, 2010, 09:39:37 PM »
Hello all,

I'm new to the forums. I was just curious if anyone knew if the Belker (the elemental creature comprised of smoke) was based on an actual mythological creature?

According to Wikipedia, it sounds like it originated in Planescape, and not in any other folklore.

Totally true.  Historians believe that most past civilizations would have endured for centuries longer if they had successfully determined Batman's alignment.

Hi - Thanks for the reply.

I was actually aware of its Planescape origins - I was just curious if anyone knew if it was based on something else or if they just made up the word. The mimir, for instance, having originated from Norse mythology.

I considered the possibility that they just made up a word from the same origins as the word "belch" (since the belker is essentially just a smoke elemental) - I was just curious if anyone knew any differently.
