The kobold's curiosity (and paranoia) are almost killing him, as he cranes his neck to try and see what's being done to the others.
Spot, Sense Motive, Spellcraft, Knowledge (Planes):

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.

Grimacing at the discomfort, the warforged sidles over to the Kobold "It doesn't hurt that bad, if that's what you're scared of.  A sharp tingle and now there's a colorful spike in my chest.  I think the pink really brings out the impurities in my metals, don't you think?"
She's stabbing them in the goddamn chest with a foot-long spike of pinkish metal. Radmelon, you just got stabbed too.
Alright, just a few more of you...

All of you "volunteers" feel sharp jabbing pain in your chests, large pinkish spikes of metal sticking out of them now.

Theur turns to all of those who have not "volunteered", and says:

Relax, these are standard issue. If you're in trouble, just rip them out, and you'll automatically be transported to an infirmary bed. Dying causes them to be expelled violently.

"They're actually the closest thing we have to a byproduct of the Artifact, and they're perfectly safe, so line up, you nellies!"
Fighter: "I can kill a guy in one turn."
Cleric: "I can kill a guy in half a turn."
Wizard: "I can kill a guy before my turn."
Bard: "I can get three idiots to kill guys for me."

On a strange note, would anyone be put out if we had a post about people or events we can spare a thought for, or if its within their creed, a prayer for? Just a random thought, but ... hells I wouldn't have known about either Archangels daughter or Saeomons niece if I didn't happen to be on these threads.
Sounds fine to me.
probably over on "Off-topic".
might want to put a little disclaimer in the first post.

This is the Min/Max board. We should be able to figure out a way to optimize the POWER OF PRAYER(TM) that doesn't involve "Pazuzu, Pazuzu, Pazuzu".

"I'm not sure I agree with your definition of perfectly safe..." the kobold says with obvious apprehension.

"Although... they are still alive at least... which is more than I'd expect after that..."
Phaedrus, you now have a spike in your chest. You didn't even notice her move.
As the small dark green cloaked figure moves forward, it opens it's cloak up enough for people to catch a glimpse of dark yellow scales and a leather belt going across it's chest. Waiting for it's turn to be stabbed with the spike.
I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri rock! I need scissors! 61!

"So...you mentioned death? Interesting.  This doesn't seem to be your run of the mill cartography.  Now, do we have to get drunk before we start out?  I only ask because I'm not sure I can.

Drunkeness is not a requirement. You could be insane as well.
You have all been stabbed.
We use teh spikes because they are the only thing we have that can get you back to us. One of the... side effects... of this plane is that normal planar travel methods would shred your still living flesh.

Your host stands up, and clears what seems to be his throat, or is most probably his throat.

Now, we're going to send you all to be stress-tested. The place we're sending you has been found to only contain one creature, and it is well contained by about a hundred magical items, each working like a seal. We keep it for training, but if the creature ends up breaking out... Your first priority is to grab one of those seals. Once that happens, pull those spikes out, and you'll be home safe.

Ah, Mr. Elan, would you please share that interesting plan with everyone else? Also, I thought we asked you not to use telepathy in here? It can be quite dangerous, especially if one of our diviners picks it up. Last time that happened, we had to rearrange the plane to get the blood stains out of teh floor.

Understood The big man with the staff replies.

He attempts to look his best that the pain of suddenly having a spike in his chest doesn't bother him, but seeing it does isn't hard.

This creature, what does it look like?

The small dark green gloaked figure returned to his previous corner with a reptilian growl of pain. The pink spike disappearing under it's cloak.

I apologize, Mr. Pendrako. Well...
We have a slight problem with things going through our heads. You'd understand if you ever go through a naturally psionic plane.

Succintly put. The thing is, you might not be aiming for them, but they've been doing this for so long, they tend to pick things up... Oh, and you're probably wondering how I knew what you were thinking at him; my race is naturally sensitive to vibrations through the material and astral planes, meaning I can "see" any psionic messages you send. Ah, I almost forgot; its traditional to have people about to be sent on a mission talk amongst themselves. To build up trust, you see.

As for the creature... your guess is as good as mine. The wards put up are different from any we've seen before, and we haven't brought any back for study, because we're crazy, not stupid.

When is our mission to start? Do those of us who prepare spells have time for that?"
