Missing Item from Shadows of the Last War
« on: September 17, 2010, 05:15:33 AM »
So in the module, you're told of the Coward's Pearl. However, you're not told how it works, or what it does exactly. Thankfully in the Q&A, they tell what it is and what it does, but they don't give specifics. Doing the math after realizing what it did exactly, I came up with the price, etc. However, after using Google, I found out that someone wrote it up a bit better than I initially would have.

When activated, this bracelet fills a 20 foot radius spread with 20 foot high clouds, as per obscuring mist, and transfers the user to another location within 680 feet, as per dimension door.  This bracelet is usable once.
Moderate conjuration; CL 7th; Craft Wondrous Item, dimension door, obscuring mist; Price 1,450 gp.

pretty cool little item. although, would anyone in the mist be taken with you? or is the mist left there as a distraction? i havent read the module... but if its the ladder then that would be a sweet escape item  :D

It's exactly the latter. It's called the coward's pearl because it's a solo escape item.

I hadn't thought of that. Although, it is a bit pricey for something that can only be used once.

Hell yes it is. It is ridiculously overpriced, IMO. Well... it is priced exactly what a potion of Dimension Door and Obscuring Mist would cost if combined. It still seems too high, considering you can get an Anklet of Translocation for less than that, and teleport 10 feet twice per day as a swift action forever...

If it were one time per day it might be worth a bit more than that, but not much.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks
