Oh god, so much maths that are way over my head. I really want to get this stuff in the Red Wizard handbook but my feeble brain is overwhelmed.

I'm not really seeing how Node Genesis gets size increase from CL, the spell itself is pretty concise in its statement of size and node level.

Exactly, the bigger the size (i.e. from a higher CL creating a bigger Node), the higher the class of Node.

But the spell I looked at in underdark only creates a class 1 node. Is there another spell that makes one of a size based off CL?

You need to read the spell. The node starts as a 20 ft radius class 1 node, and then gains 20ft in radius each year for one year per cl. Shoving it in a higher time traited plane via Genesis or the like means it hits max size rather quickly (comparitively), or just being long-lived and waiting works, too. Widen doubles that amount. Granted, the size expansion minimums for Class of Node increases rather detrimentally quickly (Class*40 feet added onto the previous Class's minimum size) so it has rapidly diminishing returns, but...

And the spell in underdark is the 3.0 version. Champions of Ruin is the updated 3.5 version. Both have the same wording, though.

They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...

Easy way to stop that is just not allow PCs to include Node Genesis casting in their backstory, and not allowing them to alternate time trait rapid generate one. Squishes it pretty quickly, then, unless your campaign occurs over a century.

So far I've gotten a 5 Wizard/10 Red Wizard/2 Spellthief/3 SCM able to cast a Node Genesis resulting in a node 5600 feet in diameter, which is a class 17 node....what can we do to get this higher  :smirk

That was my next project, actually, you literally read my mind. Is there a limit to the CL GCF can give you?

Duration of the spell, so typically 24 hours (or 48 if you persist AND extend).

Since by now, the character is probably running out of feats...will dropping a Spellthief level and replacing it with a Shadow Adept level make a difference? I don't see anything at Spellthief 2 that should kill the theme.

Shadow adept grants two MM feats (and one non MM) for the cost of 1 feat.

edit: and nets something like +4 or 5 to illusion saves or something silly like that.

That's why I was considering dropping in the level, to pick up the MM's to qualify for Red Wizard. I'll have to work out the specifics of the build later.

From what I'm reading GCF can add up to half your original caster level, not necessarily 48. I also don't see any reason that you couldn't cast 3 magical caster level boost tattoos with create magic tattoo...

Does Widen really work?  Is Node Genesis a "burst, emanation, line, or spread shaped spell"?

Technically, no, based on the primary effect.

Technically no, but it may depend on how you read "Class 1 Earth Node with a 20 foot diameter" in the "effect" line. it has no area specified.

EDIT: assuming Widen Spell would work, I've gotten a Red Wizard with node magic up to 259th Caster Level. All suggestions for further caster level increases welcome.

Widen works just fine if you've taken Incantatrix and Metamagic Effect it on there :)  Gotta love Hand of Mystra minus being a plot hook :P

Ok, so here's a question : can we get +10 IC or greater, Persist Tech on 9th's, Node abuse, Master Spellthief, and BAB 16 with a Bard base?  I.e. the ultimate one-man party with style :P

Initial Requirements :
-Extend Spell, Persistent Spell, Master Spellthief, Dragonfire Inspiration, Snowflake Wardance, Words of Creation
-Most likely 5 levels of Abjurant Champion, so Combat Casting
-Node Casting, Metanode Spell

Bardic Spellthief 1/Bard 6/Battledancer 1/Dragonslayer 1/Eldritch Knight 1/Sublime Chord 2/Abjurant Champion 5/Spellsword 1/Eldritch Knight +2 is what I came up with last night.  I'm sure there's a cleaner way of doing this, particularly if I'm willing to lose Battledancer (since spells can nab Cha to AC).
