Watching Melancholy for the first time.

This is amazing! Should I bother with the novels when I finish the series?
Be Forewarned of the 2nd season and it's 'Endless Eight'...
You just have to watch it properly.

And by properly, I mean all of them simultaneously on splitscreen.

I have only 2 screens, but yes.

The Melancholy of Nagato Yuki's Expression is priceless. :D

IIRC, there's a mode in VLC that lets you tile them on the same monitor.

Put four on each screen.

I'm coming up to the Endless Eight. Are... are you being sarcastic? Should I seriously watch four at a time?

Watch the first, the second, and the eighth. The other episodes were reanimated and revoiced each time, but have no differences in overall plot (you need to watch them splitscreen to notice the minor differences).

There was a rumour that the English dub was going to use different VAs for some of the middle episodes.

Endless Eight is either a bizarre thought experiment or the most elaborate trolling KyoAni ever conceived. That being said - watch the first, second and last episodes of E8. The rest is optional, and if you don't like it - you have been warned.

The rest of Haruhi is an awesome, awesome series though.

Fate Stay Night rant, or "How exactly is Saber considered the top heroic spirit again?"
Let's check her acomplishments on the first route:
-Stabbed by Lancer, saved only by her insane luck stat, and lets the enemy run away-average performace, in particular because Lancer had already been fighting Archer.
-Corners Archer and forces Tokasha to burn a command spell-Good performace.
-Curb stomped by Berseker, needs Shirou to play meat shield to save her-poor performace. Who's suposed to be the frontline fight here again?
-Standstill against rider. Average, in particular because Saber's suposed to be top melee class and stuff.
-Pushed back and cornered by assassin just because he has THE HIGHER GROUND! Well, now I know where Star Wars pulled that one from.
-Finally victory against Rider, but only because Shinji told her to hold back, and Saber went all out in return.
-Archer alone takes 6 of Hercule's lifes alone (the details of wich I still have to discover, so he may have pulled some kind of cheese, but no spoilers please). Saber whores herself to two masters, has Tokasha and Shirou providing back up, and doesn't even manages to scratch Hercules. Shirou saves the day by pulling hax artifact out of his butt. Pathetic performace.
-Saber defeated in melee by caster! How much lower can you sink girl? Yes, Caster used an artifact for her melee, but guess what, Saber had one as well.
-Gets her ass kicked by the king of babylon. Makes a comeback by Shirou literally pulling an even more hax artifact out of his ass.

So in the first route, the only strenghts Saber has are her insane immunities and hax artifacts. But her fighting skillz plainly sucks as she's reduced to standstill or plainly curb stomped against oponents with inferior weapons, and she can only pull victories by Shirou feeding her hax artifacts and "magic energy".

Maybe it gets better in Unlimited Blades work? Let's have a look:
-Makes a good decision by taking Hercules battle to the graveyard. And then fails to spot Archer preparing to nuke them both. Something even "berseker bloodlust" Hercules noticed. Shirou needs to play meat shield again.
-And then she meets kung-fu teacher. She gets her ass completely kicked by an unarmed humie. Perhaps the teacher is a disguised DBZ character?

No, because Shirou proceeds to parry thirty blows of said teacher while having burned half his nervous system. Let me repeat this:

The heroic king of England, veteran of countless wars with one of the most legendary artifacts ever, is a worst melee fighter than a half-blind half-paralyzed teenager with hardly any combat training using cheap replicas of obscure minor weapons!

So really, what am I missing here? Saber couldn't do anything else besides using her body to protect her neck. Then Shirou goes and skillfully parries thirty blows with dual shortswords whitout taking a single hit to his body. How come King Arturina gets picked for the saber class when she can't melee anyone for the sake of her life and the only thing she can do properly is droping nukes? I bet she only beats Shirou in the trainings because he's too busy drooling and fantasizing about her.

On the other hand, Tokasha-yukuri was worth dying for. Serves her well for not taking it easy. :p

Lancer is an extremely dangerous Servant, he just doesn't have a chance to show it in the Fate route. Almost any other Servant would have been killed instantly by Gae Bolg's activated power (Berserker could avoid it due to having multiple lives). It was actually a combination of Luck and Instincts, both at extremely high rank, which allowed Saber to avoid the effect (Luck to enable it, Instincts to show her what to do).

Shirou is a terrible Master, and Saber's nowhere near full power. If she had more mana she'd be way more kickass. As it is, Berserker's God Hand makes him immune to all of her attacks save Excalibur.

Quote
-Pushed back and cornered by assassin just because he has THE HIGHER GROUND! Well, now I know where Star Wars pulled that one from.
Assassin is so insanely skilled with a sword that he can break the laws of both physics and magic to make it exist in multiple places at once. It's mentioned in one of the routes that he managed to drive every other Servant away from the temple, including Berserker(!)

Quote
-Finally victory against Rider, but only because Shinji told her to hold back, and Saber went all out in return.
Don't make light of Excalibur. It's crazy-powerful. Probably the second-strongest offensive NP in existence. By Word of God it could even one-shot Dead Apostle Ancestors, who are supposed to be way out of a Servant's league.

Quote

Not only did Tohsaka accomplish little other than "Saber isn't dying" (a Servant can't have two Masters), Caliburn is actually quite a bit weaker than Excalibur. It's implied that Excalibur could have taken off at least 9 lives in one shot, but Shirou wouldn't let her use it.

Quote

No one expects Caster to accomplish anything with a knife. And Saber's only "melee artifact" is a barrier of wind around her sword.

He's a professional assassin and master of obscure martial arts techniques who a Servant specialised in spellcasting has devoted herself to buffing. Even Caster herself was astonished at how well he was doing.

Yeah everybody says that, but does Lancer ever kill someone besides Shirou? The king of Babylon clearly walked over him.

Shirou is a terrible Master, and Saber's nowhere near full power. If she had more mana she'd be way more kickass. As it is, Berserker's God Hand makes him immune to all of her attacks save Excalibur.
Says who? Saber is able to channel mana to boost her physical power, but there's clearly a limit, or she would go nova for a second and cleave her enemy in half, not waste time in prolongued conflicts. Yet she insists in drawn out fights, showing clearly she can't release big amounts of power at once. After all, even after Saber is "recharged", she still can't even scratch Berseker.

Assassin is so insanely skilled with a sword that he can break the laws of both physics and magic to make it exist in multiple places at once.
Wich would be impressive if every other servant didn't also breack the laws of physics and magic one way or another.

It's mentioned in one of the routes that he managed to drive every other Servant away from the temple, including Berserker(!)
Archer slipped trough him.

Don't make light of Excalibur. It's crazy-powerful. Probably the second-strongest offensive NP in existence. By Word of God it could even one-shot Dead Apostle Ancestors, who are supposed to be way out of a Servant's league.
Yes, it is crazy powerfull, but it has absolutely nothing to do with her swordmanship. Is a massive nuke that's basically impossible to dodge. Why isn't she a Caster then?

Not only did Tohsaka accomplish little other than "Saber isn't dying" (a Servant can't have two Masters), Caliburn is actually quite a bit weaker than Excalibur. It's implied that Excalibur could have taken off at least 9 lives in one shot, but Shirou wouldn't let her use it.
Game itself disagrees.

Non-powered Excalibur-bounce out of Berseker's skin. With mana burst backup.
Non-powered Caliburn-slice off Berseker's arm in one blow. Whitout mana burst backup.

And then if you let Saber use Excalibur nuke, she fails to kill Berseker, and it's "get made into bloody chunks time!" again.

No one expects Caster to accomplish anything with a knife. And Saber's only "melee artifact" is a barrier of wind around her sword.
And nobody expected:
-Assassin to be a master gatekeeper.
-Someone to be able to bind Hercules to the Berseker class and live to tell the tale.
-An Archer to kickass with swords.

Saber should've learned not to trust apearances by now.

Mongrel! You dare belittle the King of Heroes?
Yes. All his stats are crap compared to the other servants, the only thing going for him it's an extra-hax artifact. Altough not as hax as utopia.

Shirou doesn't "need to" and you know it. :p And Saber didn't notice Archer because he wasn't aiming at her.
It's heavily implied Archer wanted to take out Saber as well, since he's aparently the only named character on the whole game who couldn't match/beat her in melee.

It sounds like you haven't finished UBW yet, so I'll say that there is an explanation for this.
Well that's refreshing. I hope it's a darn good explanation. Or at least Shirou kicking more ass. :p

...no, seriously, that's the name of Ratsel's unit. And from a cockpit shot where parts of the schematics are different colours, it seems it really is the head and shoulders of a Guarlion connected to a Huckebein MkIII.

And yes, Vigagi grabbed Ratsel's cut-in and pushed it out of the way.

Also, if I understand it correctly, the circumstances of Saber's summoning
kind of fuck up her power reserves. So she's not performing as well as she might with a magus who had a clue how to use his Magic Circuit properly and had summoned her in the traditional way.
Hey, it's that guy who voices all the old men in anime.

Bad video quality and Spanish subs! But I still could (more or less) understand the dialogue.

And it's hilarious and silly, because it's Sunred. Goshuujin-sama.

EDIT: New Negima. And it's awesome.

Wakamoto doesn't voice old men, he voices epic hams and strange yellow comic relief things. Some of them just happen to be old.
