Demonslaying - Outsider Evil slaying
« on: August 31, 2010, 06:41:30 AM »
I'm looking for magic items and perhaps other things that would be good to destroy Demons, Devils, and generally Evil Outsiders.  Demons and Devils foremost.

Any ideas?

I currently have the following ideas:

Bane (Outsider Evil)
Holy
Fiendslayer Crystals
Holy Water
Protection From Evil (Somehow into a magical item, perhaps custom)

I'm a Barbarian 5/Ranger 1 and my Favored Enemy is Outsider Evil.

id suggest use a Bow ..... to avoid being in Melee ..... the Force Enhancement is ideal for Bow because it Ignores DR(which many Evil Outsiders have)

also a fun spell ....... Celestial Brilliance from BoED
Celestial Brilliance
Evocation [Good, Light]
Level: Cleric 4, Glory 4,
sorcerer/wizard 4
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: Touch
Target: Object touched
Duration: 1 day/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
The object touched sheds light brighter
than bright sunlight, channeled directly
from the celestial realms. The light
extends to a 120-foot radius: bright light
to 60 feet and dim light in another 60
feet.
Creatures with light sensitivity take
twice the usual penalty when they are
within 60 feet of the object. Undead
creatures take 1d6 points of damage
each round they are within the bright
light. Evil outsiders, as well as undead
creatures that are specifically harmed by
sunlight, take 2d6 points of damage each
round in the bright light.
Celestial brilliance brought into an area
of magical darkness (or vice versa) is
temporarily negated, so that the otherwise
prevailing light conditions exist in
the overlapping areas of effect.
Celestial brilliance counters or dispels
any darkness spell of equal or lower
level, such as deeper darkness.
I plan on getting the Fiendslayer crystals at a Lesser level as that makes the weapon Holy and thus bypasses pretty much all DR they got.  Plus I'm terrible at range. XD

hellreaver from the fiendish codex 2 book is a great prc for demonslayers.   it uses an encounter based ability system: "Holy Fury" ....kinda like the factotum, and they are useful in just about everything an evil outsider can do to you,  plus you can do huge damage to them too.

Oh my, the AND part is what gets me.  Hopefully, good-aligned weapons can help me manage for now, hope I won't need other materials anytime soon.  So I can hope!

Any thoughts on this Hellreaver class?  Opinions of it?

Wait, if I am reading that right...

Does that mean I could get Touch of the Golden Ice, and it would do 1d6 + their Charisma modifier in dexterity damage? O.o

You're lv6, so let's say you fight a succubus (CR 7). It has a Fort save of +6 and 26 Cha.
If you touch it and it rolls a 7 or lower, it takes 1d6+8 Dex damage. It has 13 Dex, so this might knock it out instantly.

A babau (CR 6) has Fort +10 and 16 Cha. It takes 1d6+3 damage on a roll of 3 or lower.

I'd ask the DM if you could change the DC for ToGI to (10 + half your character level + your Cha mod), and remove the +Cha damage.

My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
In previous editions, you had to kill a Demon (read Outsider) on it's Home Plane,
for it to be dead-dead ... otherwise it might reconstitute some thousand years later (or some other fluff).

I forget if anything like that, made it into fluff text of book(s) X , Y or Z.

Not that getting Plane Shift is all that hard. Or Banish effects.

I think nowadays, you just need to hit it with trap the soul, and then avoid the temptation to plunge the containing gem into your own forehead and go wander the desert.
"We managed to make an NPC puke an undead monster."
"That sounds like a victory to me."
