Hi there, if you are playing in a game where ability scores are given out in character generation on a point for point basis, AND you want to know which races make plausible ALTERNATIVES to "races with +2 to int so you can get 20 int", and the "strongheart halfling and human" baseline options, AND the races have to be 'non setting specific races or forgotten realms races', AND you want only LA+0, no racial hit die races, what would be good options?

I'm looking at this:

http://community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/75882/19546874/Master_Player_Race_List_Version_2.0

And I'm a little overwhelmed at the options, because in a point for point, high point buy game, most of the +2 to x, -2 to y doesn't matter, and I'm not sure if I want to look in all of those books for obscure racial abilities to find stuff that is vaguely useful!

If it matters, the character will focus on ranged combat: throwing, archery, longbows, crossbows, wands.  Can I have a little help here?

Humans and Strongheart Halflings make Great Artificers.. the Bonus Feat makes a lot of difference

Warforged also make good Artificers due to being able to target themselves with Infusions

Gray Elves are also very nice for Artificers ... +2 Int and +2 Dex and Martial Weapons(longsword, rapier, longbow (including composite longbow), and shortbow (including composite shortbow))

Halflings make Great Throwing Artificers... Boost to Attack from size and Racial boost and boost to Dex

Remember, in this point buy method, +2 int and +2 dex only matter if you are getting 20 int and 20 dex...

Also are there any races other than azurin, strongheart, or human that get a bonus feat?

Stoutheart halfling.

Only downsize is speed. Everything else is a boon.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

So, in other words, having a net positive ability adjustment and/or cool racial abilities is the goal?

A few lesser planetouched would work.  Mechantrixes heal from electricity, aasimar give you a nifty net +4 to stats.  Lesser d'hin'ni get some nifty SLAs .  Neraphim might also be a good choice with their weird optical illusion abilities.

Dwarf artificer. Think about it. Isn't the mental imagery of death machines that run on alcohol awesome?

Where do I find D'hin'ni and Mechanatrix? Never mind, found them.

Is there anything that updates the rules of Mechanatrix to be completely 3.5e compatible for characters? They dont have a "Mechanatrix as characters" section that I can see...

Just follow the standard instructions - subtract 10 or 11 from the even/odd stats respectively to get the statmods.  LA is listed as +0.

So stat mods would be +0, -2, +2, +2, +0, -2.

I second warforged due to infusion compatibility and item support(wands in your hands), also being able to do some healing to your self through a craft check.

I agree with warforged.
Though the healing takes 8 hours last time I read the skilldescription. Good thing warforged don't need sleep.

Shaedlings
Eh, the wizard have more money than them combined, he could in theory just use all his money on a fleet of trained attack mules, but then we aren't playing 3.5 but zergling rushing in Starcraft instead.

Shaedlings

Where can Shadelings be found? Are they from official WotC products?

I think it was MM5.  And i was joking.  Shaedlings as written are nonsensical.

No, that's MMIV that has a bunch of stuff you can make with the MM and PHB.  Shadelings have the crazy-broken ability to be able to create anything weighing less than 15lbs. as a swift action, so long as it doesn't leave their hands for more than 1 round.

Warforged make excellent artificiers not only because they can infuse themselves, but also because of the racial substitution levels.  2/3 are plain awesome while the third is questionable.
I am constantly amazed by how many DM's ban Tomb of Battle.  The book doesn't even exist!

Me. I've read every book minus maybe one or two campaign specific book.
