[PATHFINDER]Your Eidolons, let me see them.
« on: August 14, 2010, 10:07:03 AM »
There's been some talk --- you know, the typical, like Eidolons are under-or-overpowered, more to the latter. I find the concept immensely satisfying in the 'build your own summon' sense.

So, I tried my hand at eidolon construction....

first, underpowered:
Base form: Serpentine
m spd 20 climb 20 fly 20(poor) ac nat +7 -2 size
fort +11 ref +14 will +9
AC 32 ( -2 size +1 dodge +23 nat )
cmb/cmd +30/45 reach 10
attack:  25 = +15 -2 +12 Bite 2d6+19, tail slap 2d6
str 36 dex 20 con 22 int 9 wis 10 cha 11
-4 fly, -8 stealth

feats:
vital strike, improved vital strike (6d6+19)
dodge, wind stance, lightning stance
_, _

evolution points 26
evolutions:
bitex2 1p
tail
tail slap
---

flight 2p
fire resistance 15 1p
magic attacks 1p
Huge 8p
DR 10/chaotic 5p
str +8 8pt
second, definitely not underpowered:
Base form: Biped
Size Medium;
Speed 30 ft.; flight 50ft(good);
AC 40 = +5 dex, +9 natural armor, +16 armor;
Saves
   Fort +10, Ref +10, Will +9;
Attack
   2 claws (1d4);
Ability Scores
   Str 16, Dex 20, Con 13, Int 7, Wis 10, Cha 20;
Free Evolutions
claws,
limbs (arms),
limbs (legs).
--
Evolutions:
Ability Increase(charisma)x3 6p
flight: 2p + 1p
blindsight 30ft 7p
SLA: Wish 3/d 10pt
In the SRD site, at least, there are NO clauses on the SLA making it anything less than actual, standard SLA.

Your turn.

Swap something on those attacks of the first one out to add in Grab and Constrict. With the way they changed the rules, size increases and constrict gets quite a bit nastier than in 3.5.

Also, the SRD isn't updated with the full release just yet, it's still the final playtest version until a week from monday. There's been a lot of changes to eidolons, and a general scaling back of the summoner as a whole.

Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...

I do hope they added the 'expensive material components' clause to Wish, then ;) Especially with Twin Eidolon.
The first one was, as mentioned, my first attempt at building an eidolon.
All in all, though, Summoner isn't that uber as itself. It depends on their Eidolon-crafting skills, what they get.
Would need 4 EP, so would lose fire resistance, magic attack and flight, for an example. CMB would be +38 with greater grapple and Grab.

Fair enough, it's an advanced class - requiring advanced gameplay skills.

Anyway, here's a look at 1-point evolutions only, with a quadruped for a change:
Base Form: Quadruped
Size Medium;
Speed 40 ft.;
AC +2 +16 +8 natural armor +7 dex +1 dodge;
Saves
   Fort +9, Ref +9, Will +5;
Attack
   +22 bite (2d6+3), 2x claw(1d4+2), +20 5x tail(1d6+2);
   power attack:
   +16 (2d6+15), 1d4+14, 1d6+7
Ability Scores
   Str 14, Dex 24, Con 14, Int 7, Wis 10, Cha 11;
   Free Evolutions bite, limbs (legs) (2).
Feats
Weapon Finesse
Improved Natural Attack (bite)
dodge
wind step
lightning step
power attack
cleave
great cleave
--
bite +1 1p
claws 1p
improved damage(bite) 1p
improved natural armor x4 4p
pounce 1p
tailx5 5p
tail slap x5 5p
scent 1p
magic attacks 1p
skilled: acrobatics 1p
skilled: stealth 1p
Resistance (fire) 1p
spell-like ability(alter self) 3/d 3p
---
five-tailed fox?
Well, that was pointless, if educational.
maximize number of attacks (as above), maximize STR, get Power Attack and it's a decent damage dealer, albeit it might be a bit of a glass cannon. That being said, Iron Body SLA 3/day costs 9 points, whilst abilities it grants cost quite a bit more.

Here's my attempt at making a optimized eidolon that's powerful but not entirely a glass cannon. this build assumes 2 extra evo points (5 from half-elf favored class, -3 from greater aspect) This one i was planning as using a mount for my half-elf character, thus why it's large.  Also augment summoning is included. I'm assuming that the SLA evolution is going to be modified somehow so I've avoided using it:
large Outsider
HD: 15d10+60
Init: 5
Speed: 40' land, 40' fly
AC 43: (28 NA, +5 Dex,-1 size +1 dodge ) FF: 37 T 16
Bab: 15
CMD 33 : 15 + 12 + 5 + 1
CMB 28 : 15 + 12       + 1
Atk +27 claw (1d6+18)
ful Atk +27 [bite (1d8+1d6+12), claws x6 (2d6+1d6+12)], rend 1d8+18
space/reach: 10'/ 5'

saves fort +21, reflex +14, will +5
Abilites:
str  34: 14 base + 8 large + 8 str/dex adj +4 augment summon
dex 20: 14 base - 2 Large + 8 Str/dex adj
con 22: 13 base + 4 Large + 4 augment summon + 1 ability score Inc
int   8 : 7  base + 1 ability score inc
wis 10: 10 base
cha 12: 11 base + 1 ability score inc

Maxed Skills: Perception, Stealth, fly, Acrobatics, Escape artist
Feats: Imp Natural Attack (claw), Power Attack, Hover, Imp Bull Rush, Awesome Blow, dodge, wind stance, lightning stance
Abilites: Spell resistance 31, pounce

Evo Points: 28
Ability score inc (int +1, con +1, cha +1)
3: claws x3
2: rend
1: pounce
4: large (+8 str, +4 con, +2 NA, -2 dex, -1 AC, -1 atk, +1 cmb/CMD, -2 fly, -4 stealth)
4: limbs (hands) x2
1: Improved Damage (claws)
4: SR 31
1: mount
2: Energy Damage (lightning)
2: flight
4: Imp NA +8
Well, not bad, although there's some question if Augment Summoning applies to the Eidolon, although I've heard rumors of a Summon Eidolon spell.

Is anyone else worried they gave the Summoner a few 9th level spells as 6th-level ones on their list?

Not really. You still don't get them until late in the game, and they aren't particularly fantastic 9ths, either.

Well i looked up the 6th level spells on the srd, and as mentioned they are very specific 9ths, although fairly useful 9s all the same (especially if it can be confirmed it should be summon monster 9 instead of 4) you get access to the 1st level 6 at level 16

9 Dominate monster, teleportation circle
8 antipathy, Binding, charm person (mass), Dimensional lock, Discern Location, Incendiary cloud, maze, Planar Binding (greater). Protection from spells, sympathy
7 Planar Adaptation (mass)
4 Summon monster IV (i'm pretty sure this is supposed to be summon monster IX because you get VII as a 5th level spell)

Like I said, they come in at 16th level, not particularly gamebreaking.
