The party wagon.
« on: August 12, 2010, 07:01:45 AM »

Or possibly this:

I need stats for this, but am having a hard time deciding which vehicle in the Arms and Equipment Guide to use?  Our party has just been tasked with a very long, overland trip.  We need a masterwork enclosed wagon with magebred mounts to pull it.  Can anyone offer assistance?  We are only 6th level and have limited gold.

Any WotC books should be fine.  Others could be considered with gm approval.

 Thanks

Make sure to buy extra nails. Running out of nails was always a pain.

You have died of dysentery.  :smirk

There is a carriage in the SRD/PHB. It's close to what you're looking for. I think there was a stagecoach in the A&EG that was basically the same thing, but bigger.

The wagon further down the page costs 1/3, and never specifies if covered or not, and is designed for cargo, not people, but could be modified for more comfortable seats.

I think a masterwork stagecouch (a 2 by 4 square carriage pulled by 4 horses; pg57 A&EG), with upgraded to fancy passenger seats would come to look like that rolling cottage on the left in the picture. It would have very high cost though.

The couch comes in at 800 gp, it costs 10 000 gp for making it masterwork, and the cottage is equivalanet to changing the available cargo space (1000 lbs) into regular passenger space for 100 gp.

I guess upgrading all available passenger space to fancy interior would prolong the hours you can travel, so that would be advisable. It becomes very pricy to permit room for that, you triple the price and halve the amount of passengers for a fancy interior. Its times 7,5 and 1/4 of the passengers if you want to travel luxuriously.

So for the party couch I would go for a masterworked fancy stagecouch: 4 light horses, 1 crew and 4 passengers travelling in relative luxury for a mere 12 700 gp.

Added rooftop ballistae are available for a mere 500 gp, get yours afixed to the roof at your loacal dwarven carpenter right now!

Meh, buy a couple ladders, cut them into 10 foot poles, and buy a couple yards of canvas. Bam, DC 10 craft check later, it's covered.

Isn't there something like a Halfling war wagon in Races of the Wild?  Or, am I remembering something from the dim recesses of AD&D?

I say you buy mounts bred for speed, and a lot of weapons, find wealthy people that already have the vehicle you need, and steal it.

food for thought especially for future adventures. My group has often had a party wagon and had it enchanted with permanent Magnificent Mansion.
Clerics and Druids are like the 4 and 2 in 42. Together they are the answer to the ultimate question in D&D.
Retire the character before the DM smacks you with the Table as the book will feel totally inadequate now.-Hazren

In one game that I was in (which unfortunately died due to the DM not posting anymore...) we had an Enveloping Pit that we'd built an inverted tower inside of. It was basically a portable hole with a 50' tall by 10' wide tower inside of it, with separate floors, ladders leading between them, and everything. :D The Enveloping Pit only costs 3600 gp, so it's affordable even at fairly early levels if the group pitches in on it.

isn't that the one you need to be an evil kobold to use?
Eh, the wizard have more money than them combined, he could in theory just use all his money on a fleet of trained attack mules, but then we aren't playing 3.5 but zergling rushing in Starcraft instead.

To open or close it you have to be LE, LN, or NE.  But UMDing it is a snap, and you can just leave it partially open with a meter-wide circular hole attached to a plank and forget about it.
