Read this before you post!
« on: August 01, 2010, 02:52:50 PM »
Before you are allowed to search, create threads and do a lot of other things on the boards, you have to reply twice- once on this thread and once in the introduction thread (or another thread, but it would be nice to keep it all on this board).

Read the board rules and post "I Agree" (or some derivative) on this thread to show you read the rules and agree to behave while here.

General, overview of the Brilliant Gameologists Boards:
-- Don't be a douche.  Don't piss people off just to piss them off, don't be an immature ass
-- Don't do anything with the intent of being destructive.  Add to the community.
-- Don't like something?  Suggest an alternative.  Better yet, fix it yourself.  Empty complaints are worthless.
-- If you are too much trouble, we'll boot you.  All comes down to what you add to the community versus how much work you take.  It's subjective and an inexact science, but know that you will be warned first.  Learn from it. If you are mature and post thoughtful, interesting stuff you have not a thing to worry about.

How we moderate:
Some posters have "HM" under their name- they are there to make sure everything is going ok.  We want to make sure most people are having fun most of the time and that no one person is really screwing that up for everyone.  They are NOT all-powerful and are not here to stifle- they are here to make sure the communication can be open and flow.

Here's the Hierarchy of Moderation for the BG boards:
1. Moderate yourself. Be professional. Be mature. Would you say this at the gaming table? Are you being a decent human being?
2. Others just ignore Poster X's bad behavior. We all have bad behavior at one time or another, and maybe this is Poster X's first time being douchy.  Maybe he's having an off week.  Ignore him.
3. Posters moderate Posters. See all of the advice above- you guys know what you want, tell Poster X to knock it off and tell him why his behavior is douchy. Send some PMs. Do it in context, point of "service".
4. Report the post and the mods step in
5. Report the post and Meg steps in

But what can I do?

Be better than them. Don't troll back or flame back. Stick to the topic like the offensive post never existed. Why waste time on trolls(unless you're bored and have nothing better to do, then I rest my case).

Be constructive. Be knowledgeable. Ask questions if you're not.

And take pride in being the one best able to ignore obvious flame-bait.

Or better yet, take the bait without flaming yourself, respond and defeat the point soundly and we all grow as a result.

1)Tell the person they are being a douche and why.
2)Tell them they are wrong and why.
3)Ignore them because no matter what you say they will be a wrong douche. follow the "don't argue with an idiot, because an onlooker won't be able to tell the difference"
4)throw insults at them and spout memes that no one knows/cares about. (Only works for some people)
5)proceed to make constructive comments pertaining to the current or original subject as appropriate and let them be confused why you didn't feed the troll.

pick a few of the above and use them.

More rules can be found on the Meta Board here:
http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?board=2.0

To continue with the forums, post that you have read the above rules and agree to them.  Then reply to another thread one more time  and you are set to go!

This is for NEWLY registered people only!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm going to use this post to put up some examples of posts that are not ok (or samples from them- click on the name to see the full thing in context). This isn't to humiliate- we all have off moments and I don't expect anyone to be perfect all of the time. But learn by this example so you don't make the same mistakes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This type of dickishness, if it keeps up, will not be tolerated:
That is because you are a fuckwit, but you play Pathfailure so we already knew this.

...

You also know, or would know if you were not a Pathfailure fuckwit that SR is not relevant, because Conjurations are so fucking good anyways that using them is not a power down at all, and is in fact something that you would likely choose to do anyways.

This is so insanely insensitive and lacks any sense of basic manners:
My aunt had a heart attack Christmas Eve. Her funeral is today. >_>
Oh wow. What did you do? Made a "stunning" leftard announcement that her poor conservative heart couldn't take?
My condolences to the rest of your family. YOU, however, can eat shit and die.
The tier system in a nutshell:

Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.

You can remove the thread from your subscriptions...

My Profile -> Notifications and Email (left side) -> Click the thread -> Scroll to the bottom and hit "Unsubscribe".

Edit: Or just click the Notify button in the thread itself, and it turns it off.

Functions from the same, iirc.

I've never had notification via the "Show new replies to your posts" about threads I've posted in that I removed from my subscription list. Maybe I'm special or doing something weird?

Before you are allowed to search, create threads and do a lot of other things on the boards, you have to reply twice- once on this thread and once in the introduction thread (or another thread, but it would be nice to keep it all on this board).
I, er... never did that.

Should I not be creating threads?

Says the man with 1200 post count.

It's because you can't create threads until you have at least one two posts.

There are a fair few people who post asking for help because they can't do any of those things and then find that their post has solved the problem.

Also, welcome back. ;)

And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

Dudes!!  The title of this board is New?  Start here.

If you're not new, ignore this all!

This is just that we've reset registration so you have to post twice before you can really get into the boards to prevent the overwhelming spam bot issue we had.

If you're already registered and posted, you are fine!

I do it by going to the top of the page on a thread, where it says "notify" and clicking that.  If you're already subscribed, it will say "Are you sure you want to disable notifications?"
