What is your favorite high ECL race?

I got to thinking a little while back about high ECL races. They are not optimal but there is an implicit cool factor in being otherworldly awesome, so I wanted to ask;

What is your favorite high ECL (4+) race from a non optimised standpoint*? Maybe we can come up with some optimised builds for cool but otherwise poor races.

Mine is Succubus, not mechanically all that strong but I like the idea of manipulation and being an outsider is always cool.


*Rather than pick the most powerful or easiest to optimise, just pick on cool factor.

The aloon(?) mind flayer, I'm AFB but I think that's what it's called. powers of the mind in something the size of a giant :D

The tier system in a nutshell:

There's also the Ulitharid, which is basically a Mind Flayer, except more, and is Large, so the size of a small giant, I guess.

http://www.atomicsockmonkey.com/freebies/di/pdq-core.pdf  The smallest, shortest, simplest ruleset of any RPG I've ever seen.  If 3.5 is too complex and you don't like 4.0, try this.  It has very few rules and is just short of freeform.

I like the rakshasa, but I've never actually played one.  I just like DMing them, and if optimization weren't an issue, it'd be fun to play one.

It also wouldn't be so horrible to play if the DM ruled your HD stack with sorcerer levels for casting.

Edit: It looks like the levels already do stack.  Still LA +7 is a bitter pill to swallow.

Considering that is explicitly spelled out in the description of Rakshasas...

Personally, I like varying ECL races.  Centaurs are some of my favorites, but I also like lycanthropes.  I do remember that one of my favorite characters was a Vivacious warlock.  Unlimited ammunition, both in invocations and healing and Death By Ice Cream.

I'm a big fan of Astral Stalkers (MMIII), though I've never gotten to play one.  Started to build one a few times, but the campaign(s) never get off the ground.

I second the Rakshasa as well.  A Rakshasa Swiftblade would just be awesome. ;)
