Monsterpocalypse
« on: June 27, 2008, 07:21:53 AM »
I was hoping to go to Gencon this year to see Privateer Press debut the Monsterpocalypse Kaiju minis game.  Sadly it appears that the funds simply arent there for me.  If by any chance anyone else goes and tries it out can you PM and let me know what you think?

Kitteh is a massive kaiju fan  :D

This game is on everyones radar.

The things I have heard so far are mixed, but this is one product I hope to review myself.

Kaiju minis?  Awesome!

They're also supposed to have a public (but not open) debut WoW minis.

They were showing some of the minis at Origins. If they put as much awesome into the gameplay as they did the look of the pieces, this will be my new favorite minis game.

Sure, make sure to bump this topic after GenCon, though. Just as a reminder.

How big are the minis?  Anyone heard?

They're in different sizes. The "normal size" monster I think was about 2.5-3 inches tall.

It's fun. I'm not sure how much I'll invest (it is rather expensive), but I do want to get a bit more stuff so I can show others the game.

Monster Booster (1 Monster) - 12.99
Unit Booster (1 Building + 4 Support Units) - 12.99
Starter Set (1 of Each Booster + Rules, Dice, Map) - 24.99

I did not actually get to play myself because the place was constantly mobbed.

The game looks cool and the rules are fun and interesting.  My concern is replayability and cost.

How many times can you battle before you want a new faction?  And then how many times before you want a new release?

The price is very high for random figures.

Whoa $13 for 1 monster?  That's almost as bad as WoW minis.

The reasoning behind the monster boosters only having 1 monster is that each monster requires 2 minis: a regular version and a "hyper form" version that's translucent.

Still, I agree that $13 for a single monster is rough.

So the booster that has the monster in it has the regular form and the "hyper-form"?

Yes. The regular and hyper forms always come together, because you need both to play.

OUCH!  Have they mentioned how many critters per faction?
