Long time no play.  I'm looking for Wizard builds that use 3.5 rules and are restricted to Core +Races/Completes (including weirdos like Complete Mage) and Spell Compendium.  This will be for some sample characters for a potential campaign.  As a result, I'd like the progressions to be something that a 1st level Wizard character will be able to use to plan what feats/spells/gear/stats/etc they should be shooting for at levels 1-3-6-9-12-15-18-20.

Things like your first feat should be X from Book Y.  You should choose <insert spells here> at level one, then chose <these spells> at levels X,Y,Z.

I've been thinking about the Focused Specialist from Complete Mage and specializing in Conjuration, with Evocation, Enchantment, and Necromancy as banned schools.  First level spells being things like Color Spray, Grease, and Lesser Orb of X.  Looking forward to spells like Cloud of Bewilderment, Glitterdust, Web, Sleet Storm, Stinking Cloud, Evard's Black Tentacles, Solid Fog etc...

I will probably be looking for other fairly archetypal progressions in the coming days, so if I should make a single thread, please let me know (I'm starting off with the character_I_ would like to play here.)

Thank you all in advance.

Should be some things in there that help get you started.

Also, try looking up TreantmonkL20's guide to being god. It's a wizard treatise in multiple parts.

A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.

Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH!
Behind door number 2: A magic crown!
Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

If you create a wizard with a lot of conjuration and transmutation spells, you probably can't go wrong.
I personally prefer specializing in transmutation, but that is personal preference, simply built on the fact that I can find the most levels with useful spells when I look at transmutation.

Knowledge Devotion can go quite crazy when chucking off greatswords with telekinesis.

I like using my feats as a wizard to qualify for crazy prestige classes, but some do the metamagic route, where you'll have to remember the cheaper metamagic feats.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.
