Anyone interested in some Pirates? [3.5]
« on: July 16, 2010, 09:16:27 PM »
Having seen a lot about pirates popping up on the boards recently I am having a yearning for some pirate action and wanted to know if anyone was feeling similar.
Was thinking of running Savage tides if I can find the copies of dungeon to run it off otherwise possibly Eberron set around the Lhazaar Pincipalities.

Details:
Starting level: 1 if we do savage tides or probably 5 if Eberron
Money: see WBL chart in the DMG
Classes/books: Any Wizards + Dragon Magazine

House rules:
Using guns from dragon magazine (pirates need their single shot pistols and cannons) as Exotic weapons.
HD are max at first level and then 1/2 at even and 1/2+1 at odd so Wizard: 4 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 3...

Note:
You probably don't want to specialize in heavy armour as falling in the sea wearing full plate is a good way to die.
Ship has been decided unless you guys want to invest in one yourselves.

Pirates, invest in one.  Really.  :eh

If it weren't PBP I'd probably ask to sign up, myself, but I hate the pacing of PBP games.

Same here, but I'll let you know if anything comes up.

And yes, I've officially hit my limit. For now.

I'll voice my interest, I have yet to play a pirate themed game.

I think I would try for a kobold cook.

I'm interested allright, but there's the rather large problem that I've read the ST adventure path recently...
I think I could counter any metagame thinking I might exhibit, but it's your call Littha.

Of course, if it's Eberron then it's no problem.

I might be interested, I don't have the dragon books with the gun rules being used, but I can build in a different direction. I also don't have the savage tides book, so I'd need to be informed of any special rulings it may or may not bring to the table. I'm also unfamiliar with the Eberron setting, which might be an issue. I can always read through it though.

If you've ever played Tales of Symphonia, Eberron is kind of like a D&D take on Tethe'alla.  You got the racism and nationalism, the widespread magitechnology, the powerful and sometimes corrupt clergymen, etc.

never played tales of symphonia before, but it seems straightforward enough. I suppose I could always play as a veeeery recently constructed warforged (possibly aquired as swag from a recent pirate raid) and therefore have no real idea whats what and therefore join the pirate crew for lack of purpose...

Savage Tides sounds like fun from what I've heard from several people already, so consider me interested :)

Possibly some sort of Wizard. Seems like it would be fun to try and play one at low level :)

EDIT: Oow, guns from Dragon 321? Just finished an Eberron campaign with a Kobold Artificer who used those. They're awesome :D

continual flame might work on parts of the boat, bonus points for immolating the entire enemy crew.

alright then, how much of eberron am I gonna have to familiarize myself with/what would be considered general knowledge, seeing as me being a recently created warforged would probably in itself be the arc of some campaign (I read a bit about them)?

Have a general browse through the wikipedia article and some other bits here and there and you will know enough. Lhazaar Principalities dont have all that much information on them anyway.

Warforged arent that old and I know someone is still creating them in secret, besides that savage tides starts at level 1 so you wont need to know all that much.

There's a fair bit of modification, but Savage Tides in Eberron would be sweet.
As mentioned, I'm interested, but I want to know if you'd prefer me to not play since I've read the adventure.
I think I can still play without metagaming, but there are DMs out there that would prefer clueless players.
So I'm awaiting a decision there.

Something worth noticing:
ST have a very weird timeline. Sometimes you'll have plenty of time to craft, sometimes not.
So artificers could encounter some problems.
Just a heads up to all players.
