Lockdown!
« on: July 08, 2010, 09:21:16 PM »
It is time we smack all of you idiot melee lockdowns!

*Grins.*

Dragon Magazine 350 has the feat "Ranged Threat"

Requires BAB +6, PBS, Precise Shot, and Combat Reflexes.
Gives you a 15' Threat range for ranged weapons. Why is that yummy? Because Stand Still does not specify Melee, only they have to provoke an AoO in a square that you threaten.

Thus, you can use a bow to Stand Still opponents, and hit loads of them. Of course, you could do this with a spiked chain at a slightly smaller range but *Shrugs!*

This consumes all of your remaining

So a Psychic Warrior could do it twice a round.
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

Arrow Mind allows you to threaten out to 5 feat/ 10 feat if your large for 1min/CL... it also allows you to fire in combat without provoking which is nice.

Elvencraft weapons threaten 5 ft. Maybe 10 if you're Large...don't have the book.

Races of the Wild 166 has Elvencraft Bow rules.  These bows function as a club (shortbow) or quarterstaff (longbow).  You can make 'em bigger for Large+ creatures.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

Warshaper with Spiked chain does it just as well.

But it was a nice idea.
Monks are pretty much the best designed class ever.

I apologize Glutton. I was only told of the feat, and he missed on that last bit! My bad :3

 :banghead :banghead :banghead

Though, in Quintessential Elf one can find another 'Ranged Threat' with preqs only being PBS, and Rapid shot, Threat Range 20', doesn't consume extra AoO's either

Using a reach weapon and being large already increases the reach to 20 feet.  It's not hard to get it past that point either.

If we're using Dragon material, a favorite of mine is the Awl Pike: 15' melee reach before enlarge (presumably 30' with enlarge).

Mine is the Duom (same issue, also in the Dragon Compendium) a Martial reach weapon that can also attack adjacent enemies. Works nice with a Hood, too.

There's no way it should be as easy to use one of those weapons (or spiked chains for that matter) as it is to use a pike. Sometimes I feel like I'm playing the wrong game.
