Paladin's Warhorse? How to bring him with you?
« on: July 04, 2010, 08:40:59 AM »
What's a good way that my 8th level paladin can change the form of his large warhorse so it can accompany him into dungeons. Is there an item that will allow the horse to change shape? Are there other ways to make the warhorse more useful, versatile, and powerful?

I believe there's an ACF Somewhere that lets you pick something different for your mount. Otherwise, not that I am aware of.

They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...

There are a few ways:
- A Paladin can exchange the Warhorse for something more powerful, various Sourcebooks have alternate Mounts(some are able to change Shape, but I doubt even one of these is availible by ECL 8).
- Alternate Classfeatures, again various Sourcebooks(IIRC Dungeonscape has the 'Underdark Knight', which is one of the better ACF's for a Paladin)
- A Custom Item based on Alter Self is around 12.000g and will allow any Medium to Huge Magical Beast that has 5HD or fewer.
- Some Paladins(of Mystra, via Sword of the Arcane Order) could, of course prepare Alter Self(and later Polymorph) from a Spellbook and cast it at the Mount.
- Somehow get Arcane Spells(dipping into Bard and taking Devoted Performer can work, if you have the Int Duskblade is even better. Mystran Paladins can get into Knight of the Weave PrC), use an Eternal Wand of Alter Self and share it with your Mount.

They can only summon it once per day.

There is a spell that lets them resummon it. I think it's 1st or 2nd level and in the Spell Compendium. I'd suggest getting a drakkensteed mount via the ACF of the same name, because it is superior in every way to a normal warhorse and costs basically nothing.

You could ask your DM for the WoW option: Right-click it and move it (de)activate it as a standard action.
Hood - My first answer to all your build questions; past, present, and future.

Speaking of which:
Don't even need TO for this.  Any decent Hood build, especially one with Celerity, one-rounds [Azathoth, the most powerful greater deity from d20 Cthulu].
Does it bug anyone else that we've reached the point where characters who can obliterate a greater deity in one round are considered "decent?"

How about just taking the Charging Smite ACF from PHB2 and never looking back?

Everything I learned about DnD I learned from Frank Trollman at The Gaming Den... but nowadays, my work space is the New DnD Wiki.

Check them both out!

Or team up with a spellthief.  He steals your "summon mount" SLA, uses it, then you regain it, he steals it, uses it, et cetera, until the prime is covered in horses.

Be a halfling and use a riding dog?
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.

get a belt of many pockets (complete arcane) and have your GM houserule that it also holds your paladin mount.

Or make a custom magic item along the same idea as familiar pocket. And get your GM to approve.

The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

There is a small collar in the Arms and Equipment guide for 10,000gp.  It makes your mount small without changing any of its attributes.

Change it the horse out for the 9hd dinosaur wombat from Sandstorm pg 148ish, its still large, but it can burrow so it should work well for most dungeons.
