Spell Selection help please?
« on: June 08, 2010, 12:40:03 AM »
Hey guys. I am playing a Druid/Wizard (Focused Transmuter)/Mystic Thuerge/Arcane Heirophant. I am currently casting as a 7th level Wizard, 9th level Druid. I am looking to maximize the usefulness of my casting to help the party. We currently have a DMM-Persist Cleric taking care of healing and such, so I am looking mainly to buff the melee types and such, and to use my Fleshraker Companion Familiar to the best advantage. I have focused on using him as a mount, taking the Halfling Druid Sublevels. I really could use help tailoring my spells. I have banned Illusion, Enchant, Evoke.

Any help is appreciated.

You have a Fleshraker? Isn't this where Venomfire comes in handy?

Ok, I keep hearing mention of Venomfire, but I can't locate the actual spell. Also, what is the feat that lets me share from 30ft? I mean, I intend to focus heavily on actually riding my Fleshraker, but this could still prove useful.

Also, does anyone know if with the Companion Familiar, if I still need to actually use Handle Animal? Right now it has an Int. of 7. That seems like plenty for it to understand things on basic levels not requiring baby talk. It is actually as smart as some characters I have seen. My thought would be that since it has an intelligence of 3 or higher, I can converse with it normally, turning it more into another party member than just a pet as it seems stupid that I need to Handle Animal on something with this level of intelligence, assuming it can understand me, which it can due to a Pearl of Speech.

As to starting a new post, of the forum page, the one you access this thread through, in the upper right of the box in which all the threads are listed there should be several options. One of which is New Topic. Click that and you should be able to start your thread.

Venomfire is in Serpent Kingdoms :)
I think Companion Spellbond is the feat you're looking for, not sure though...
Unfortunately I don't have a source on that, sorry.

Does the fact that the Sarrukh (aka Pun-Pun) comes from the same book automatically catapult it up to the "most broken evar" category?
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

Definitely doesn't help with the knee-jerk people :P

Although in all fairness, Venomfire is, in and of itself, pretty broken.  You'd have to be w/ some hardcore optimizers for that to be a reasonable spell choice.  I've toyed w/ nerfing the damage, like halving it and capping it at 5d6 in order to be reasonable.

I also like the Investiture Spells for buffing (FC II), and there's always the Bite of X ones.

Oh, I agree it's ridiculously powerful, just saying that that might not always be the reason why it gets banned in the first place. For some people just hearing 'Serpent Kingdoms' is enough, without even reading the spell/feat/whatever in question ;)

Heh. I'd know you anywhere, DM-guy. Found out how to post yet? :D
