Reworked Metamind PrC
« on: June 03, 2010, 12:58:38 PM »
A simple approach - what do you think?

Metamind

Hit Die: d4

Requirements
To qualify to become a metamind, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Skills: Knowledge (psionics) 8 ranks, Psicraft 4 ranks.
Psionics: Manifester level 1st.

Class Skills: The metamind's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis), Concentration* (Con), Craft (any) (Int), Knowledge (psionics), and Psicraft (Int).
Skill Points per Level: 2 + Int modifier.

BAB: Poor
Saves: Fort poor, Ref poor, Will good.

Free manifesting: Whenever a metamind manifests a power, if he would expend total power points equal to or less than his levels in metamind he instead expends no power points. This does not apply to bestow power or similar effects which transfer pp. Do not apply effects which would reduce the pp cost of a power (such as Earth Power and torcs of power preservation) when determining whether you can apply this benefit to a power.

The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Hmm, it certainly has simplicity to it, and some effectiveness.
Lacks 'zing' as a PrC though.
The mind transcends the body.
It's also a little cold because of that.
Please get it a blanket.

I wish I could read your mind,
I can barely read mine.

"Just what do you think the moon up in the sky is? Everyone sees that big, round shiny thing and thinks there must be something round up there, right? That's just silly. The truth is much more awesome than that. You can almost never see the real Moon, and its appearance is death to humans. You can only see the Moon when it's reflected in things. And the things it reflects in, like water or glass, can all be broken, right? Since the moon you see in the sky is just being reflected in the heavens, if you tear open the heavens it's easy to break it~"

No capstone?
Since you lose 5 manifester levels from the XPH metamind, you basically have that class's capstone active at all times from the 1st level of this class.

At least, you do now that I've upped this from 19/20 to 20/20 manifesting progression. I don't think that it's too much, given that you lose bonus feats and the ability to take other PrCs...

So it's accessible by level 6, At whick point you spend nothing on 1 pp powers.
7th, nothing on 2 pp powers.
8th, nothing on 3 pp powers.
9th, nothing on 4 pp powers.
.......
20th, nothing on 15 pp powers.
So at 20th, no free 9th level powers, everything unmodified 8th free, many modified 7th below free.

Hrm...... doesn't really seem so bad, I suppose, compared to incantatrix's and such... :smirk

May be best to cap it at a 10 level PrC.

It would be capped at 10 pre-epic, and it is quite basic and easy to use.

Only capped at 10 pre-epic if the PrC is only 10 basic levels long. There are 12 level basic PrCs.

Are you sure that should be pluralized?

I was confident there were at least 2. There's one in Races of Eberron iirc, and I was sure another as well.

Actually, they refer to them as "prestige classes" a few sentences later.  :P

If WotC made the distinction, I must be true. Other wise they would have called the new section Classes as Prestige Classes.

I hate WotC. :banghead

Moonspeaker: 12 levels
Necrocarnate: 13 levels
True Necromancer: 14 levels

I'm sure there are more, these are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.

Fine. I still say this class is still only meant to go 10 pre-epic. :backtotopic

Psionics is strong but weaker then magic. When I say weaker I mean Tier 1.2 instead of Tier 1. It makes up for the 0.2 by being the lords of action abuse. It is one of the few ways I know to achieve infinite actions. Even ignoring  Synchronicity you still have Solicit Psicrystal Control Body with a shared Schism. You manifest twice per round, full round attack once per round, and your psicrystal has a mental only standard action to play with. If you're smart, it's also manifesting powers.

I really like the idea of this class. But the above options only become stupider. Oh, and the more glaring issue, Bestow Power.
