Not feeling the need to add anything to the conversation I simply tag along Alcy and give a quick explanation to Tom while passing by The zombies returned, we need to alarm the sheriff.

Totally true.  Historians believe that most past civilizations would have endured for centuries longer if they had successfully determined Batman's alignment.

Tom asks you to return quickly.

There's a watch office nearby that can take your story.  They tell you not to worry that guards will be posted.  It's not likely the Dean would be this stupid, but his nephew might.  He probably had the zombies climb through the windows and go through your stuff to see what they could find out about you. Kinda pointless you being newcomers.

Alcy stays at the office, inquiring about work, possibly related to this latest zombie incident.

Zachary looks around the office, says "I'll be back," and heads out the door. He does think of coming crashing through the door shooting, but instead thinks to head back out to the alleyway by the inn, to see about more cats like Nina suggested. And so he does.

What time of day is it?  If it's late, I go back to the inn.  Otherwise, I'll stay at the office and see what's going on.
