Anyone know?
« on: May 26, 2010, 02:50:58 PM »

I need a suggestion, where can I find a comprehensive list of spell components and their cost? The campaign I'm going to play in uses them and since we're able to use any WotC book, the list is huge.  Thanks :D

That was rude.

Sorry, Bradywan. Dunno myself. Good luck, though.
If I say something about real world physics, and someone disagrees, assume I am right 90% of the time. This number goes up to 100% if I am late night posting - trust me, my star dust sibs.

ghost save progression pixie hood

Prevented anyone else from saying it. Now that THAT is out of the way:

Spell components without a cost attached to them have a cost that is "negligible". Basically, if you DM wants to assign a cost, that's what they cost. Remember they should all cost less than 1 gp, though, since that's the limit to start counting it.
A gygaxian dungeon is like the world's most messed up game show.

Behind door number one: INSTANT DEATH!
Behind door number 2: A magic crown!
Behind door number 3: 4d6 giant bees, and THREE HUNDRED POUNDS OF HONEY!
They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.
Three Errata for the Mage-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Barbarian-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Monks doomed to die,
One for the Wizard on his dark throne
In the Land of Charop where the Shadows lie.

A spell component pouch automatically contains any component you may need, as long as it doesn't have a price listed in the spell description.
My work
The tier system in a nutshell:
Tier 6: A cartographer.
Tier 5: An expert cartographer or a decent marksman.
Tier 4: An expert marksman.
Tier 3: An expert marksman, cartographer and chef who can tie strong knots and is trained in hostage negotiation or a marksman so good he can shoot down every bullet fired by a minigun while armed with a rusted single-shot pistol that veers to the left.
Tier 2: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything, or the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
Tier 1: Someone with teleportation, mind control, time manipulation, intangibility, the ability to turn into an exact duplicate of anything and the ability to see into the future with perfect accuracy.
That said, there are some optional spell components (which can add additional effects to spells) in the Eberron Campaign Setting and Complete Mage.

And for the spells in the PHB.

If your DM starts using a LOT of components, just start buying truckloads of Primal Essence. Costs x1.5, but it works for any and all spells.

If your DM allows it, buy a Focus Component at x50 cost. Combine the two options to need just one focus. A very expensive focus, but still. My 13th level Sorcerer has one at 11,250 gold.
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.
