Ick, no sort of trickery to get it earlier outside of TO stuff, huh?  In that case...

Q 195: What's the earliest way non-templated PHB race character can swallow opponents whole, with polymorph and related effects banned?
Wizard/Sorcerer with Enlarge Person and Hoard Gullet (Dragon Magic)?  On a medium race, that will let you swallow Tiny or smaller foes at level 1 (note: uses both 1st level spells known if a Sorcerer), although it won't harm them.  Once you get access to Plymorph, of course, it doesn't much matter.

@Phaedrus: how does Versatile Spellcaster do anything to help that?
He knows all spells on his domain list that he gains from Contemplative, and combines two of his highest level (7th) ur-priest slots to cast an 8th level spell (Bite of the King). He can qualify for Versatile spellcaster by entering ur-priest as a sorcerer or something.

Q197:
Can someone in detail please explain to me how the Versatile Spellcaster + Heighten Spell-trick works?

You sack two level 1 spells for a lvl 2 spell, even though you're character level 1, by heightening it zero steps since you still can't cast 2nd level spells except you can for some reason and whatsit and how and  ???

You sacrifice two level 1 spell slots for a level 2 spell slot. You got that much right. Then, you apply Heighten Spell to a level 1 spell you already know to make it a level 2 spell and cast it in your level 2 spell slot. Congratulations, you are now capable of casting second-level spells.

Q199:  Discussion arose in my arena regarding using Extend Spell metamagic feat on spells with set durations, such as Wraithstrike (1 round) or Owl's Insight (1 hour).  I pointed to the FAQ ruling about not being able to extend Vigor because it has a max duration listed.  But is there a RAW distinction between a "fixed" duration and a "max" duration?

Technically none that I know of.  However, Winterhaught of Iborghu (probably misspelled) and Elemental Savant both turn you into an Elemental.

Ah, clever, very clever.
I've always assumed you had to use it on an "level-unmodified" spell. That's probably RAI.
But that's RAW for you, haha.

Bump...

Q154 I'm getting slightly confused with this: what's the CL on the Wizard and Nar Demonbinder on an Illumian Wizard7/Nar1/Ultimate Magus2 with +CL Sigil (+2)?

According to my math, I get 11 on the Wizard and 15 on the Demonbinder... but are these the right numbers?

Maybe no one knows off the top of their head, and you should show your work so folks can check it and point out if/where you went astray, instead of just bumping repeatedly.

No problem...

I'm using this guy I posted here...

This is what I've done:

Wizard: 7 (base) + 2 (UM) +1 (Sigil; can't get over HD?) +1 (Arcane Spell Power) = 11
Nar Demonbinder: 1 (base) +2 (Sigil) +11 (Wizard) +1 (Arcane Spell Power) = 15

Demonbinder is the one nagging at me. I followed the idea that I apply the most beneficial order on these effects...

Q 202 In one of the dragon magazines there was a metal that was equivalent to adamantine, but came from space. It was like a star metal. It was basically the same as cold iron vs abyssal cold iron. Anyone know what it was called and where it was from?

It was later featured in CA. It is called "starmetal". in addition to effectively being adamatine it deals 1d6 damage to any extraplanar creatures while your on the material plane.

That took me a while to find because CA usually means Complete Adventurer, whereas CAr is Complete Arcane, where the star metal is.

And it says extraplanar creatures. This mean all outsiders except native outsiders?

Surreal is correct.  CV was used for Comp Adv long before Champs of Valor came out.  It does produce a quandary.

I'd probably shorten Champions of Valor to CoV

Q 203 Other than Amulet of Health, is there an item that gives you additional hit points (ie mimics Toughness or Improved Toughness, increase CON, grants temporary HP, grants permanent HP, etc) in some way, shape, or form?

A203: The Amulet of Tears (MIC) grants Temp. HP, an Eternal Wand can grant Heroics (Imp. Toughness) and can cast other spells like False Life, a Silthilar Graft can grant a +2 Untyped bonus to CON, Embedded Warforged Components add 1 HP each, Minor Schema(s?) can have spells like Heart of Earth in them for Temp. HP.

There are a LOT of others, just say what type of PC you need it for, what sources you can use, and what's the gold you're willing to invest in it.
