Now these last few builds aren't even pretending to be paladins, are they?

But I agree, Crusader/really any PrC that gets Paladin casting(Holy Liberator, Pious Templar, any divine/Prestige Paladin) is a better Holy Warrior Type.

Also Knight of the Raven(Expedition to Castle Ravenloft) works really well for this type of character.
Even Archivist or Cloistered Cleric qualifies by ECL 8.
Heck I've seen a build that used Spirit Shaman as an entry.

Paladins also make for a nice Gestalt class :)

Paladin 16 // Sorcerer 5 / Abjurant Champion 4 / IotSFV 7

Make sure you take the Mystic Fire Knight ACF for the pally :D (You lose turn Undead, but it is worth it.)

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20051104a Mystic Fire Knight is half-way down the page.

i always liked this one:

Bard 1/ Monk 2/ Paladin 17

Key feats: able learner (to keep up on perform and UMD), ascetic knight, devoted performer, initate of milee (sp).

You get the unarmed strike damage of a 19th level monk, smiting damage of a 20th level paladin, and the bardic music abilities of 18th level bard.

You also might want to consider the overwhemling attack monk variant from UA/SRD since it gets you power attack and improved bull rush, setting you up for shock trooper and divine might.

loads of fun and easy to play .... Very Strong

I think you can get it with a trick or two. Alternate Spell Source and/or Southern Magician?
[spoiler]
A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

cheers for that guys I asked simply because I like the flavour of the class and I just ntoiced they were absent. I noted the crusader was a better class but some of the players we have in our group will not allow tome of battle citing it as being over powered........ yet they have no problem with me as a cleric or druid this is largely because one of our group members tryed tome of battle and appeared over powered while with clerics and druids I tend to focus on buffs heals and support magic so thier ability is not as immediately obvious

@benjiamon:
I bet your pals won't mind you playin a War Weaver, it's powerful but in a sneaky way(just buffs) :smirk
War Weaver Guidebook has a few fun builds(including a Knight of the Weave/Ultimate Magus^^).

@topic:
Could a Paladin ~11 get into Dragonlance War Mage?
Thought so, if SotAO counts as arcane casting.
Not good, just fits the Paladin as Protector ;)
