Spontaneous school casting
« on: May 06, 2010, 05:30:07 PM »
I'm not sure this is possible, but I was wondering if there was a way to make an entire spell school 'spontaneous'. So for example, a cleric with the healing domain can spontaneously cast the healing spells given by that domain. Could you somehow extend that to all conj(healing) spells?

Spontaneous Divination (CC) makes Divination a wizard's spontaneous school.
Proteus (EoE) lets you spontaneously, and Immediately, cast Illusion (Glamer).
Initiate of Lathander can cast any spell with the [Light] descriptor or the word Light in it's name spontaneously.

Then there are things like Uncanny Forethought, allowing a Wizard to cast any spell spontaneously, which is just silly.

But for any and all [Healing] spells? No method that I know of, but why would you want all when you can hand-pick the ones you need?
Read, every day, something no one else is reading. Think, every day, something no one else is thinking. Do, every day, something no one else would be silly enough to do. It is bad for the mind to be always part of unanimity.

Shadowcraft Mages can spontaneously emulate a whole school (Evocation) and a large portion of another one (Conjuration: Summoning and Conjuration: Creation). It has some drawbacks and some advantages over actually casting the spells rather than emulating them, but being able to do it spontaneously is insanely handy.

A couple of water benders, a dike, a flaming arrow, and a few barrels of blasting jelly?

Sounds like the makings of a gay porn film.
...thanks

You have perked my interest. Though Uncanny forethought is juicy :)

Tome Dragon, conjuration and divination methinks
no, just spells known.
I do not suffer from paranoia; I enjoy every second of it.

So a Tome Dragon who's also a Rainbow Servant is even nastier, eh? Oh, and of course I forgot about the Rainbow Warsnake, who can cast any Cleric spell ever printed spontaneously.

I wonder how a tome dragon warmage would work?

5LA / 3HD Loredrake Tome Dragon / Rainbow Servant 10 / Arcane X

Lose Knowledge domain from Loredrake
Versatile Spellcaster (Already know 3rd level div/conj spells, no need for heighten...)
Rainbow Servant interpreted as 10/10 casting
LA-Buyoff 3LA Allowed
Spontaneous all Divination, Conjuration on the sorcerer list
Cleric List access

Making it 20/20 caster

Spontaneous access to around 200? spells of conjuration and divination is pretty nice. Telepathy. Next age category going another 3HD for 2 CL gets you to +1 free metamagic & rapid metamagic on the Tome Dragon as well (19/20). Like a Versatile Spellcaster Warmage, can start belting out higher level Conj/Div spells ahead of the curve.

Steel Dragon is a much quicker route to the cleric list, though you end up eating 3CL since you would want to avoid Loredrake, no 9's for shame.

Could use age abuse to reach higher power levels, as discussed in the other dragon threads.

If the Knows Conj/Div spells was interpreted as added to any class they posses, could only squeeze in 15 levels of Warmage casting levels.

---

For completeness

Hex Dragons

Wyrmling 4LA / 4HD, No CL
Very Young 5LA / 7HD , Caster Level 1st
Knows all Enchantment & Necromancy Spells on the Sorcerer list

Spontaneous, yes. Effective, no.

That's 1 level shy of Shadow Illusion. :(
It always seems like the barrels around here have something in them.
