Wilder-I manifest the powers that make people fall down!
« on: May 02, 2010, 10:13:18 PM »
Skip down to get to crunch if you like.

So I'm playing a wilder who's personality is inspired by black mage and hennet from phb psas though as I played alot of the Miz snuck in. Any way the game started at level one we're all from a village that was decimated by meteors when the Pc's were inutero and we all have what basically amount to mutant powers. After some rp time establishing what daily life was like the village was attacked by a squad of warriors in platemail with longswords and heavy shields.

I got off to a slow start missing with an electric ray and failing a check vs enervation. Then my dice kicked in and I killed two of the attackers. I have body fuel so I can pretty much spend STR for pp all day long as long as I get easy days in between. So the next day we find out these guys were sent by a god-king because our mayor had refused a demand to join his kingdom and a much larger force would most likely be sent out as soon as the remnants of this force reported back.

He announces that a couple higher level NPCs are going to an allied town to ask for volunteers to assist them. So I go and get briefed on the mission go here, talk to this guy, come back and as I;m leaving the mayor's wife takes me aside and explains that the allies we're apealing to aren't strong enough to fight the size of force that will most likely be sent after us next and gives me a bag o' loot (I haven't checked out the contents yet) and told me I should go to our attacker's capitol instead and try to pay them not to attack us.

I choose option three go to our attacker's capitol and surrender then try to convince them that their new vassals needed protection from another evil group in the area and hope they take the bait and weaken themselves fighting. I convinced the other PC's to go along with my plan and that we shouldn't let the NPC's in on it. We went along with the NPC's then that night an hour into my watch I woke the PC's up and we took all the money and started off toward the evil capitol.

We just got xp to level up and here's the party.

Druid-Archery feats special ability is a summon monster I spell (this will scale up) that lasts for several hours so effectively she has two animal companions

Str 11
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 15
Wis 14
Cha 15
these are rolled stats that I decided to keep down the line

feats
Body Fuel
Psionic Body

skills all max ranks
Psicraft
Knowledge Psionics
Bluff
AutoHypnosis
Concentration
Intimidate
Diplomacycc

My one power known is energy ray and my special abilty is that all my damage dealing powers have a crit threat of 16-20 or do double damage on a saving throw roll of 1-5 if they don't require an attack roll.

I'm not sure what to do at level two should I take the mantled ACF I like Freedom and Consumption. I kinda want Natural world but it has two first level powers I'm not interested in so I was thinking of maybe taking the tap mantle feat eventually to make a lvl 4 version of Metamorphasis available.

Where should I go from here? I'm leaving my options open to go Thrallherd and if I pull off my plan I may end up significantly over WBL. I know my starting feats weren't the best possibleble but I didn't know how far we'd go so I took them for a big payoff at lvl 1.

It's also not too late for me to take flaws and with them a lvl one only feat. I'm considering Hidden Power for Astral Construct is this decent or am I better off with a cheap metapsionic feat and psicrystal affinity?

I would recommend going the thrallherd path as it will give you the out of combat versatility that your build will lack. Also be sure to take the educated wilder variant to give you a few extra powers.

Did I forget to mention I was an educated Wilder? Sorry, ya it's totally on my character sheet already even though it doesn't matter till lvl 5. Actually it went. . .

1. roll stats
2. hmmm I could play an CHA based ray specialist without rearranging my stats.
3. wrote "Lvl 1 Educated" on top of sheet
4. wrote "Wilder" after the above
5. picked powers, skills, etc

Did a tentative level up today and retconned in flaws. Still time to change things. Educated and Mantled aren't mutually exclusive are they?

Timothy Black Lvl 2 Educated Mantled Wilder

Str 11 (10) burn
Dex 16
Con 12
Int 15
Wis 14
Cha 15

HP 22
AC 17
PsP 10 (9)

Bluff 5+2
Concentration 5+1
Autohypnosis 5+2+2
Intimidate 5+2
Knowledge Psionics 5+2+2
Psicraft 5+2+2
Diplomacy 2.5+2+4

Body Fuel
Psionic Body
Hidden Talent(Astral Construct)
Psicrystal Affinity
Flaw noncombatant
Flaw vulnerable

Mantle Consumption
Immediate action expend Psionic Focus to gain 5 temporary hp when someone within 10ft is wounded

Any suggestions for changes?

Wilder handbook in my sig.
You look like a blaster, which is fairly effecient build to make. I would concur with educated wilder. No reason not to take free EK.
That link in my sig has all the advice I can give for you. Glad to see another wilder fan here. Nice using body fuel, at early levels it's not bad, but later you may want to use a method to refuel PP with bestow power instead.

Oh and I would put 16 on your CHR. I know you like using spamming energy Ray right now but your save or dies (ie energy barrage) will be more important down the road.

Hmmm you are going mantled wilder as well?  I hope you have a nice DM because you HAVE to select powers from your mantle when you can. You could use subsitude power ACF to off set this but for a class that is hurting for powers restricting it selection of powers isn't a great idea.

I have an ardent handbook in the works (for a while now) and from memory comsumption was not one of the best mantles to use.

Technically the substitute powers is strictly an Ardent ACF, so you wouldn't be able to apply that to the mantled wilder ACF.
