Playtesting Comments, Critiques and Questions
« on: June 19, 2008, 03:15:12 PM »
Alright, this thread is only for specific items and questions of playtesting. Basically, I'll be using it adjudicate rules questions and answer concerns. Please number your questions, in keeping with the thread order, so it is easier for me to keep track of them.

Example Below:

Q #1) Will detect magic reveal rituals active or similar semi-magic effects?

A #1) Rituals are supernatural effects. As such, they follow those standard rules, meaning that detect magic does not see their effects. Slices and Seeds are Spells/Spell-Likes, and follow those rules.

Q2) This one's about Totem Charge/Totem Grapple. Are the animals you can Wild Shape into restricted by Historian HD in the same way normal Wild Shape is restricted by Druid HD?

A2) These do not use the Wildshape rules. Instead you pick one animal when you gain the feat, and shift into that creature, as described in the feat.

Q3-X)Can Healing Touch work on the martyr?

How long do hit points sacrificed for Was the Sins stay sacrificed?

For entwined bodies/spirits, you can't share more than a 20, and only at level 20... Did you mean bonus? It's kinda of entirely useless the way it's written now, especially as a second level ritual.

Does Entwined Magic affect rituals as well?

What kind of action does Gift of Anguish take?

Life's Wrapping's best use is by Evil Martyrs btw... It's far more powerful offensively than defensively, but can't be used on hostiles, meaning it's most effective used on innocents.

Does Pinioned require concentration? If not, it's highly powerful, if so, it's multiple uses are virtually useless.

And why do all the Martyr class abilities rely on Cha, but all the rituals rely on Wis? With Con needing such a boost, this creates for heavy MAD even in support casters.

Q4:Can I use my Martial Era BAB to qualify for feats or prestige classes? I'm specifically looking at Warrior of Olden Days and the Soldier of Memory. If not, a straight Historian can't enter SoM until 15th level...

Yes, but still affected by the hit point sacrifice cap.

1 round/2 martyr levels. The loss is generally the same duration as the effect.

Yerp, needs some tweaking. Remove that cap bit or double it.

Spells and spell equivalents only. Rituals are (Su), not (Sp).

Standard. Why would it take something else? :P

It's supposed to be only used on allies. Either way,  it can't be used offensively. Also, evil is not allowed for a Martyr.

No concentration.

Because it seemed most appropriate for the class.

Removal would probably be best, imo.

Well true, but there's no penalty for a Martyr who becomes evil. Might want to include that if you'd really like to limit them from doing so.  ;)

Couple questions:
Does using a one-handed weapon as described in Wild Strike allow one to use the benefits of Bloodseeker's Joy (Prequisites: ... Must wield an ancient two-handed weapon.)?
And do the Ancient Martial Tech advancements from Era Warrior/Soldier of Memories grant more Ancient Martial feats when attuned?
Edit:Do I choose the two spells when I take Warrior's Prayer or do I get to pick on the run?

1) No, its still a one-handed weapon, just held in two hands.
2) Yerp, that's part of the technique.
3) Choose when you get the feat.

Grasp The Lifeblood: As a standard action, the ritualist calls for the blood of the creature to slow and harden, damaging it's ability to move and to think. The target must make a will save of ten plus one-half ritualist level (minimum of one) plus his charisma modifier. If the target fails, it is entangled and slowed. If the target falls below 20% of its hit points or 10 hit points, whichever is greater, it becomes paralyzed instead of entangled or slowed. The duration is concentration. The target must be a living creature, and must be within 60' of the ritualist. This is a mind-affecting ability.

As a move-action, the ritualist may attempt to brain-lock the target. If the target fails a will save of ten plus one-half ritualist level (minimum of one) plus his charisma modifier, that target is paralyzed and immobile for six minutes per ritualist level. If the target succeeds at the save, remove all effects from Grasp the Lifeblood, and the target is immune to Grasp the Lifeblood for one minute.
