The skum are nowhere to be seen as Marlowe enters the next chamber, and it has several visible exits. The psurlon however tells him that they've continued on in more or less a straight line, so he's able to follow them through another chamber.

As Marlowe enters this next one and the party follows behind, the psurlon says that he's detected the presence of ten more minds, in the chamber beyond the one where Marlowe is, (two chambers beyond the rest of the party). They're all aberrations of average intelligence. The two skum you saw earlier have joined them, bringing their number to a dozen.
With a decent Spot check, Marlowe might see some of them from this distance. They're still 100+ feet from him, though.

Spot check (1d20+13=21)
Likely the companion party of the group we encountered earlier. They may be blocking our path.
You don't spot any yet, but you will as you move forward and the penalty decreases. Their hide checks, for convenience (including a -10 penalty to spot for 100 ft spot distance): 1d20+20=22, 1d20+20=29, 1d20+20=28, 1d20+20=29, 1d20+20=36, 1d20+20=40, 1d20+20=38, 1d20+20=33, 1d20+20=40, 1d20+20=36, 1d20+20=33, 1d20+20=31
<< Tempted to boil these sad ass bitches before they even know we're here. But the fish might not be in an informative mood if we execute all his neighbors. Hmm, fuck that. I bet the motherfucker will feel like talking if we execute all his neighbors! >> Xuuvosic continues, gathering steam, <<Feel like cooking up some seafood with me Raoul? RJ, lemme know when you and Marlowe are in position to take out any survivors that start swimming back this way. >>

<<This form allows me the best speed of us all while in the water. I assume that I should also take on any stragglers, should any survive the assault.>>
Unless Tome material governs the rule on swimming in some other manner, keep in mind that you guys move a lot slowed while swimming- 1/4 speed with a successful swim check as a move action, or 1/2 speed as a full-round action. Luckily RJ and Cade are the only PCs who really need to be in melee range, but it also applies to X's minions. You others can probably just sit back and relax at distant range. :P

Also, did X forget Cade, or just choose not to include him in the plans? I figure possibly the latter, for getting caught up in the plans and suggesting to give X up to the Aboleth. :P

<<Hrmm. Keep in mind that that's when I'm at my full size. But I understand nonetheless. As for you, Raoul, let's see those things Charbroiled.>> Cade centers himself, focusing on the coming fight rather than his companions' comments.

No... it's whenever you take a damn step. With an annoyed mental quip, Ris-Janna quietly moves, barely causing a ripple in the water. A while later, another mental message comes from her. I'm ready. The demon girl shifts uncomfortably, as much as that is possible. The guy with the suit still has her cloak. It#s not like she needs it to stay hidden from these, but she feels sort of naked without it.
Raoul: It's a figure of speech; she's not actually naked. :P

Ris-Janna moves as close to the skum as she deems practical. Getting adjacent to one or two would be ideal.
Hide, Move Swim Silently (1d20+29=40, 1d20+31=46)
Is there any dry land here, preferably close to the skum, or is the whole chamber inundated?

Is there a spot in the adjacent chamber or in ours where Marlowe could get out of the water? My ranged attacks aren't going to be very useful under the surface.
New encounter thread started. Let's get Initiative checks, and Spot and Listen checks from everyone, and other checks as needed. If you've already posted other checks that are relevant in this thread, like Hide and MS, please just repost the results in a new post there.

Once inside the hole, Cade moves downward, and shifts into his normal human-appearing form.
"I do not mind the elven form, but those aquatic elves... Ugh. The webbing is absurd, and the stringy hair is nothing short of atrocious."

"Please. The pursuit of the ideals of beauty is even more important now that that mad little wretch has taken over. I hardly think the Fire-haired Lady would be pleased to know I'd give up on such things given the present circumstances, regardless of whether or not she still exists."

Thinking a moment, he continues, "Ah, I see. Yes, yes, those elves are also fairly weak and simple, blah blah, yes, we get it. You're not a "people" person... unless those people have volunteered to be barbecued. Or perhaps, running away because they did not."

To Marlowe, he says, "Hmm, yes, I suppose so. Your sacrifice is appreciated, certainly. I'm sure those aches will be gone soon enough, to be replaced by ever more wounds and abuses at the hands of our continually-growing list of common enemies."

"Yes, well you just tell that to the elves back in old Myth Drannor when you show up with several demons looking for a mystical, legendary artifact that may just be in their possession. I'm sure they'll be more than pleased to accommodate you. They may even invite you in for supper and elvish wine."

"If all goes well, the elves need never know we were there at all." Marlowe's mouth quirks in an ironic half-smile.

As the last of you climb into the pit, Xuuvosic picks it up and a moment later the rest of you find yourselves climbing out onto a mountaintop that has somehow been flattened*. The chilly air at the lower altitudes has turned absolutely frigid up here, but the splendor of the scene laid out below partially makes up for it at least. On one side, the moonlight reveals the dunes of the Anauroch spreading endlessly to the horizon. On the other, Cormanthyr forest lies like a dark green rug, seemingly unfurled to welcome hapless visitors into its foreboding depths, where they will likely never return from. It crosses your mind that at least in this section of Faerun, the residents are likely happy about the loss of the sun. Neither the Empire of Shade in the desert, nor the Dark Elves that have taken over the forest are likely to miss it in the slightest.

As the imp flies out of the opening of the pit, your peaceful reveries are broken by his loud complaining "So you decided that we should conduct our negotations in the frozen depths of Cania? Do I look like a frost imp to you? Ah well, at least there is incentive for us to get it over with quickly, before we all freeze to death.

So... here is the deal. My Master will provide whatever resources you need, as appropriate, if you but agree to two simple terms.

1) You must never take... the artifact... forward in time to a point where... you know who... could reach it. It is currently beyond his grasp, as it lies in a time before he was born, or so we surmise. If it didn't, he'd have already seized it for himself, or at least to prevent anyone else from using it against him.

2) When you're finished with your... agenda... the artifact will be handed over to my Master.

The resources provided will consist of unlimited numbers of Wishes, provided by me, and perhaps other items in the future. However anything beyond the power of a Wish will have to be requested ahead of time and will take time to procure.

I will provide you with this amulet to contact me with, and I will be available as you need, even if you travel into the past as I have had my current position for some time, but I may not be able to respond immediately upon being called. So you shouldn't rely on me to come and get you out of a bind.

I am also not here to fight for you at all. Despite my ability to produce Wishes and use dimensional travel, my combat abilities are extremely limited. I do have several defensive contingencies in place on my person to defend me against those who might seek to abuse my gifts against the will of my Master, though. So don't get any bright ideas about double crossing me."

*
The cities of ancient Netheril were made by cutting the tops off of mountains, inverting them, and then imbuing them with the ability to fly. Those of you with ranks in Knowledge: History, or who have had personal experiences with ancient Netheril, might guess that this is likely one of those mountains that had its top removed.
