Testing the Waters
« on: April 09, 2010, 01:49:34 AM »
I'm considering running my silly campaign via PbP.  All official 3.5 content is allowed, anything else would need my approval.  Starting level would depend on what everyone wanted to play as I'm allowing virtually anything you want, particularly if it's hella weird.

The Jester's Realm

Somewhere in the Multiverse is a God so powerful he makes many of the others pale by comparison, and has crafted his own Demiplane.  A Demiplane only he has access to (meaning he's the only way in, and possibly the only way out), and he kidnaps beings and objects that won't make for too much notice to populate his realm.  Why he does this is anyone's guess but most think it's for his own personal amusement.

In other words, think Ravenloft.  But instead of gothic horror, it's surreal slapstick comedy (well some of the time).  And instead of the Plane being sentient, you have an insane Overdeity watching over it.  It's cut off from the outside, so worshipers of deities will find their powers no longer work unless they take a new God (and there are many Lesser Gods as the Jester uses promotion to Divine Rank to make life interesting).  Prestige Classes reliant on a connection to other Planes, or Plane specific things (such as some of the Realms classes) will find their class abilities do not work, so plan accordingly.  You can come from any DnD world from the Realms, to Eberron to Athas.  or even from other worlds entirely.  I'm allowing any class/race combo as long as I have the books for it.  And if you want it badly enough I may get the book if I can (which likely currently means were okay as long as no one wants to play Incarnum).

Also you'll have to put up with being kidnapped and deposited almost naked and semi-penniless on a world you know nothing about  :D

So if anyone is interested let me know.  If people actually like the idea I may go for it once I get my job straightened out.

Sweet! Now, to re-read over those damn samurai classes you've been cranking out, though I am tempted to play an orc/tarruk (whatever) as well...

So not much in the way of rules, then? For a campaign like this, it'd probably be better to start a little higher, say 3-5 probably. That's just my 2gp. Grrrr, so much choice! Maybe a samurai with an orc cohort... never actually used leadership before...

--EDIT-- Thinking of a Samurai 6 / Ronin 6 / Yojimbo 8, not necessarily in that order (though finding an ideal order will be hard, as well as avoiding the capstones, especially the yojimbos). He'll carry a no-dachi, have long silver hair, and call himself something angelic sounding... totally 100% not ripped off...

Decided that it'll pretty much be Samurai 6 / Yojimbo 10 / Samurai 4, just so I play full through one of them. Do you think we might go epic or above, ridiculous as the campaign is? Also, would you rather (as it's totally fine by me) if I played samurai 20, or would you like a test of the prcs as much?

We can go either way.  We'll only go Epic if people have the patience to reach that level.  Usually my silly campaign isn't horribly combat intense unless the players want it to be.

Well, looks like we've got the sneak and warrior roles overall covered. It's make sense for me to play some kind of caster, though I really want to find something fun to fit in with the wackiness. Give me a little bit and I'll come up with a concept. (though it'd be easier with an idea of character creation rules - for instance, being limited to certain point-buys can limit how insane something gets, while adding in gestalt results in some truly insane combos) :)

Not doing gestalt.  Was gonna wait to see if people preferred rolling, elite arrays, or 28 point buy.

I'd like to try rolling, since I'm used to 32 PB and don't really get the chance to roll stats.

I prefer rolling, mostly because point buy gives me a headache.
I'm trying to decide between cat burglar, bhu chaos monk, chozo warrior (prime32), or maby even Monstrous initiate (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=140698) if you'll allow it.

Wow usually people hate rolling!

Chaos Monk is open.  If the owners of the other two classes dont mind playtesting notes we can give it a shot.

Keep in mind all the homebrew stuff from my threads here are available for playtesting.   Also, if you wish to be a Divine Caster I have a list of pantheons at the ready.

Oh, and I suppose it goes without saying my sense of humor is risque, sometimes surreal, and potentially offensive.  Just thought I'd throw that out there...

Would a psion Ghost be an interesting addition to this group?
This Means I'd prefer starting at 6th level to save me using the savage progression.
