Once I have a decent BAB from Divine Power, it would be nice to be able to operate decently in weapon-based combat. Plus, technically, given the wording the damage boost should add on to my breath weapon vs. any favored enemies (and some of the benefits are nice).

Flavor-wise, Talon's getting an upgrade, including upgrades to his abilities and to his access to information databases. The first course of action is logging on to Bahamut Angelic Network Directorate (where one of the customer service representatives, aka BAND-Aides, will process the upgrades).

Oh my fucking god I so want to play one of those rangers, now... Ranger was my favorite D&D class and archetype starting back in 2nd edition, but the implementations of it in 3.X have been somewhat lacking due to the overpoweredness of casters (why play a ranger when you could play a druid, if you care about power at all?). But that... THAT looks fucking awesome! I am SOOO going to play one of these now!!! I mean... it's still no wizard, but holy crap is it a hell of a lot better than the core ranger... Those favored enemy bonuses are awesome, and the ranger can choose one he doesn't have as a swift action once per hour starting at 3rd level!

Well, there is a pdf that has a lot of it, but there is even more that hasn't made it into there yet. Of course, Frank and K started the "Tomes", so links to the original Races of War, Tome of Necromancy, and Tome of Fiends are probably the best place to start reading up on them. Then the pdf, forums, and links in that wiki are good places to keep digging if you want more.

The new wiki page seems to be down for some reason... but here is a link to the old one which still has most of the stuff. It is just no longer being updated. Just poke around in the Homebrew section. Not everything in there is "Tome", but the handbooks section has links to the ones I mentioned above, as well as the newer (and incomplete) Tome of Gears, and the Tome of Elements (which was a community project, not a Frank and K work).

Seems to me the Tome stuff can help bridge some of the gap between casters and noncasters, so.

I believe that was part of the point.

Also Phaedrus, that's something you and I have in common. When I started playing back in AD&D 2e, other than once playing a dumb-as-a-brick tank, I almost always went with a half-elf ranger. ("Man, why WOULDN'T I choose half-elf? They've got LOW-LIGHT VISION!"  [/young-me]  )

Dude, that is a beautiful adaption of the ranger. Though frankly, I've always been a fan of not upping melee, but just lowering spellcasting, in the bridge-the-gap argument.

Still, that's a beaut...

I know, and that's a nice thought. But at some point, we'll have to be toning UP the monsters (or just give the goblins class levels... really should finish that comic...)

Well, I guess it's because Monkey Island isn't an undead-centered story per se, but Guybrush DOES fight LeChuck over and over again, so it should count.

Speaking of which, I wonder what LeChuck's build is.

Depends on which game we're talking about. In MI1 maybe Swashbuckler/Dread Pirate/Ghost, then in MI2 probably retrained ghost out and became a Necropolitan.

 

(Ghost probably more than makes up for having swashbuckler and dread pirate levels. At least, it would have to. )
