Let us build the Tardis
« on: March 29, 2010, 11:05:58 PM »
For those of you who aren't familiar with Doctor Who please feel free to slap yoruself. After you have done that look it up and love the good doctor. Now for all of those are familair with the Tardis I would like some ideas on what it would take to build it using the Stronghold Builder's Guide and what ever ideas pop up. Now it seems simple enough to do, but looks can often decieving. We are looking at a box that has an inside much bigger than the outside. While it has no active defenses it can withstand hordes trying to break in and can only be opened by the doctor. Mix in the fact that it can travel all through space, time, and (at one point) dimensions and it seems simple enough. Time, of course, won't factor into this but teleportation and planar travel will. So, any thoughts?

Thanks for the quick input. We got the travel down now how about being nigh-indestructable. I like the invisibility idea though.

so, whats the wondrous item creation cost of this thing?

cost of box x 50
1 continuous spell
3? use activated spells spell lvl x caster lvl x 2000
multiple abilities x 1.5
no space limitation x2

will need to to visit the magic item creation handbook...

the tardis is not in fact invincible.

its hard to target, mostly.

i know the magic mansion is just about perfect, but imo, a custom epic spell should be used.

the final product should probably be a major artifact..

prior to the current story line, they were not properly unique items. just highly regulated...

Yeah, it's more the basic concept I'm looking for than an exact transfer over. Pretty much just a safe place for the party that can pop from one place to another.

Something constantly playing a lyre of building so it's invincible.

You'd need 48 of them, since each one lasts 30 minutes and can be used 1/day. So that's 48*13k=624kgp. Totally doable, especially if you half complete the Tardis enough to time travel, then go back in time with the rest of your wealth and trade it in at a higher return due to inflation. Or just use standard wealth generation tactics. Or just make them yourself for a discount.

I'd like to get a total market cost though, for people who actually want to stack all the item creation cost reducing feats and make it.
If I say something about real world physics, and someone disagrees, assume I am right 90% of the time. This number goes up to 100% if I am late night posting - trust me, my star dust sibs.

Still covered by landlord, I think.  Or action point abuse.   Or just "raise shields" whenever you're in danger.

Yeah it would be covered by Landlord, and because of that you would only have to to pay half of that 624K, making it 312K. Still a big chunk of change, but getting there. This is of course based on the idea that you are getting attaked constantly. Need a way to "sense danger" somehow while away from the police box. Prerhap layered walls of a wall of force and then living wood to keep it nice and simple. When the force wall is attacked the lyres, or a musician/guard, starts to play.

Thanks for the handy links, but like I said time isn't that big much of import though still nice to have. It's mostly the "Can stop Mongol hordes" and "RDIS" abilities of it. But stil, very cool links. I think the biggest problem now is making something like a permanent Mage's Mansion attached to the inside of the box so that the Stronghold rules and cost will only apply to a 5X5ish area. And of course doing so costly and at as low a level as possible.

I never even heard of those before now. I like the idea of having five of these pits stationed along the inside five of the six sides of my 12X12X12 Box. This would take the available square footage from 100` sq. to 2,600' sq. which is a very good thing. Each party member could have their own "wing" of sorts. Now what I don't understand is the description. Does it take the proper aligment(s) to unfold/refold it or use it at all. Seeing as it is used as a trap it would seem like the former, but I would like to be sure.

So now we have a nice simple design of three ways from the entrance that are 10X10X50 and going vertically from the entrance we have 50' down and 50' up. Liking this more and more.

(Edit my 12X12X12 math may seem off but I'm thinking in an off manner. Put the E. Pit on a 12X12 wall and then place a faux frame over it too keep it from beind folded or hopefully even noticed as what it is. Less E. Pit on the wall and more "wtf hallway".)

Once it's activated it stays open.  Opening requires LE/LN/NE alignment (or a DC20 umd check).  If you worship a particular kobold god, you can open/close them remotely.

It's actually DC 30 to emulate an alignment.

AND you need to give up a divine spell slot/day or have the True believer feat, as WELL as worshiping kurtulmak to open them remotely.
