ok, we played the first session and despite only casting 1 spell, I apparently nearly broke the game.

Don't you just love it when people accidentally break the game without even trying or intending to?  :lmao

They could still cast something not requiring a target, but requiring line of effect, such as lightning bolt, through your illusory wall.
True, but if they didn't know it was an illusion they likely wouldn't even try.
I dunno, I've frequently used lightning bolts to explode holes in walls...

You cannot get enough damage with a lightning bolt to really make that worthwhile, if it was acid or sonic damage it might work though.
You can if it is a wooden wall :P

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...

let me just be clear. If i have an figment making me look human, i cannot be targeted by any line of sight spells.  that really seems broken.

Only if the figment is of a creature slightly larger than you, technically. As long as the illusion covers all of your skin/body/gear/whatever, even if only by half an inch, you are technically safe from LoS. Unless they have true sight or something, of course.

If you're willing to spend a standard action each round concentrating, then you can use a figment to block LoS, yes. Overpowered, no.

Wouldn't people still be able to target your space blindly with spells and attacks? That would give a 50% miss chance. Useful, but only as effective as 3rd level spells (Displacement, Greater Concealing Amorpha, Blink, etc.), and also requiring concentration. And they know where you are, so it doesn't quite push up to the power of the 4th level Greater Invisibility. I'd say it's about a 2nd/3rd level effect before including concentration.

as in, a 20-ft cube of stone. positioning ourselves in one of the corners.

i have a long, sad history of making non-proper CO illusionists.. (before i knew about shadowcrafting and what not..)

i would intentionally take max ranks in artistics skills. to add credibility to my ability to make the illusions perform better.

99% of the time the DM screwed us/me anyway.

the only time it worked was pseudo fireballing a 1 hd kobald who chased us into a room, we had a 1 round advantage..

the false walls, the false pits, glowing weapons.. none of it ever worked... DM like evocation.

If you have a DM who will not work with you for illusions they can get rather bad. But that is effectly just little examples of DM fiat.
