Gestalt Bloodstorm Blade
« on: March 20, 2010, 03:53:36 PM »
I'm working under these restrictions, for Ithamar's Arena:
ECL 10 ~ 38 Point Buy ~ 50,000 GP
Saves and BAB will not be calculated fractionally. Take the best progression of both at each level of the gestalt build.
By limiting your number of base classes to two, you may choose one additional source.
PHB I & II, DMG I & II, and MM I. From there you get 6 (7) more sources (which I picked):
Tome of Battle - Bloodstorm Blade, Warblade, Maneuvers...
MIC - Items...
Spell Compednium - Spells (Giant's Wrath, Bite of the XXX, Any Other Melee/Ranged Buff)...
UA - Combat Wizard + Domain Wizard (Transmutation) OR Spontaneous Divine Caster (Cleric) + Cloistered Cleric, Flaws, Traits...
and
Web (2 Sources) - Swiftblade (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/prc/20070327)
Races of the Wild - Woodland Archer, Raptoran...
or
Faiths of Eberron - Sovereign Speaker, Domains, Spells, Items...
Complete Champion - Devotion Feats, Pool of Healing (p 47), Spells, Items...
Races of the Wild - Woodland Archer, Raptoran...

Proposed Wizard Progression:
Wizard 1 // Warblade 1
Wizard 2 // Warblade 2
Wizard 3 // Warblade 3
Wizard 4 // Warblade 4
Wizard 5 // Warblade 5
Bloodstorm Blade 1 // Wizard 6
Bloodstorm Blade 2 // Wizard 7
Bloodstorm Blade 3 // Wizard 8
Bloodstorm Blade 4 // Wizard 9
Swiftblade 1 // Wizard 10
...
Swiftblade 2 // Warblade 6
Swiftblade 3 // Warblade 7
Swiftblade 4 // Wizard 11
Swiftblade 5 // Warblade 8
Swiftblade 6 // Warblade 9
Swiftblade 7 // Wizard 12
Swiftblade 8 // Warblade 10
Swiftblade 9 // Warblade 11
Swiftblade 10 // Warblade 12
Wizard 13 // Warblade 13

Screw Baleful Poly. Take the 20% gp penalty and get the Draconomicon to get Draconic Polymorph. Alternatively, get MM3 and use a regular polymorph to be a Cave/Crystalline troll at 10th/11th level, and a War Troll at 12th. Or drop UA and get both of them.

Can't "screw" Baleful Polymorph, as it's a Bonus Spell from Transmutation Domain Wizard (UA). I don't get to pick and choose.
Also, Draconic Polymorph wasn't included in the SpC, but it's written in the SpC spell-list, they simply forgot to type it in - isn't that enough?
Aren't there any interesting forms besides Trolls of all types?

Also, I'm not sure whether a Swiftblade (Combat Domain Wizard) or a Sovereign Speaker (Spontaneous Cloistered Cleric) base is better. Each has it's merits, and the SS has Anyspell and Greater Anyspell, so gets most of the important Arcane stuff if it needs it. The Swiftblade, meanwhile, is VERY hard to hurt.

Nope, we have to have the Draconomicon for Draconic Poly.

And If you are going to be polymorphing, you're better off not being a Raptoran.

Also, I don't know if we are allowed to take Swiftblade 10, as Timestop is banned.

If you do go the divine route, just thought I'd point out that Faiths of Eberron is not on the source list, thus is costs double to use.  Build should still be doable, just wanted to make sure you noticed that.

For the arcane build, putting Mobility on your armor as means of qualifying for Swiftblade is slightly risky.  Someone targets your armor with a dispel and you lose a lot of abilities for 1d4 rounds, which is potentially enough time for them to destroy you.
Are you worthy of Ascension?

If you're looking to focus on throwing javelins than possibly having the other side of the build be a cleric/stormlord could add a lot of offensive power to a build like this.

I see your point. Duly noted. Still worth it, I think, but I'll need to think about it. Being able to cast Domain Spells as a Druid is NICE.

Considered that, but PrCs are limited to 2. Also, Greater Magic Weapon. And not on my source list.

Hrm.  At one point, I cobbled together a gestalt Drunken Master Bloodstorm Blade.  The idea was to couple extremely high unarmed damage with improvised weapons and Throw Anything, then start lobbing random pieces of ricocheting junk at the enemy for massive amounts of damage.  I can dig out the build, if you like...
