headphone wire short
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:42:09 PM »
Anyone know a quick jury-rig for a headphone short? I don't have a lot of stuff on hand (or electrical knowledge, for that matter) but I discovered a short in my headphones today, right at the point where the wires enter the jack, and I don't know if there's a quick, non-invasive way to fix it (short of going and buying the exact same headphones from the school bookstore... a prospect I'm not fond of as I bought these just a month ago or so...)

the easy answer is, your screwd.

the closer the damage to the hard part of the plug the worse.

you could, assuming its a regular plug, go to radio shack and get a replacement plug, strip the wires back, connect it up, and it will work fine. but your gonna need to be prepared to solder unless you have excellent super glue skills.

+1

at that point it would probably be cheaper to just go buy a new set of headphones unless these were an expensive one.

if its a 1$ pair of head phones, trash, start over
if its a 5$ pair of head phones and you cant solder, trash start over
if its a 100$ pair, go to radio shack.
