Ask a Simple Question: Attack the Darkness!
« on: February 05, 2010, 04:58:30 AM »
As the old one's up to 50 pgs, and at 19 posts, after my link to this one, I'm making a new one here.

Last question from the old thread:
Question 262

In regards to being able to craft alchemy items, what exactly constitutes a character as a "spellcaster?" Is it levels in a spell casting class, being able to cast any single spell or possessing spell-like abilities?

A1: p 313 of the PHB says this:
Spellcaster: A character capable of casting spells.

SLA's don't count, IMO, but there might be some debate there. Look at the rules for Warlock and multiclassing on p 70(?) of CArc.

Yeah it's a bit odd because (going off page 70) it says invocations are equivalent to spell-like abilities.

Question 263

Is there any way to get a 1st level Kobold Expert the ability to craft alchemical items? I'm trying to construct my version of PoDunk, the smallest thorp, and am hoping to have one guy that can effectively make alchemical items but I keep hitting walls.

You mean to nab "Craft (alchemy)"?

Yes. Right now it looks like the 1st-level Kobold Expert would have three feats to work with.

To make an item using Craft (alchemy), you must have alchemical equipment and be a spellcaster.
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/craft.htm
Basically, OP needs to become a spell caster. Isn't there a feat that grants some spells (not SLA!)?

The nice thing is, magical training triggers the loredrake arcane spells clause.  So you can have a level 1 kobold expert shooting off sorc spells.

I think a level in Magewright, would be a more effective manner to do it.
A player once asked me if there was any way to make a Tarrasque more evil... 3 sessions later he was stoned with D20s as the PC led an exidus out of the path of a Dire Tarrasque of Legendary Wonder.

I figured this would work but how exactly does it?

DMG, MIC, Complete Arcane... ?

Edit: Frostburn has metamagic rod of Piercing Cold
Magic of Eberron has empowered spellshards.

They don't/haven't, was the point. 3.5 is as dead as people not liking nice tits.

Sometimes, their tits (3.5) get enhancements (houserules), but that doesn't mean people don't like nice tits.

Though sometimes, the surgeon (DM) botches them pretty bad...
Best metaphor I have seen in a long time.  I give you much fu.

Savage Species has a ritual to gain the evil subtype.

Savage Species has a ritual to gain the evil subtype.

Does it change your alignment? example from CE to CG, or will it make me Humanoid(evil-subtype)? The wording of the ritual is not the best.

subtype. Generally, alignment and subtypes coincide, but not always.
